Ark Survival V.1 - Now 40% less likely to melt your GPU!

Honestly, I'd probably be more willing to give this game a fair chance if I didn't have to lower the graphics to the bare minimum to get it to run at a decent framerate. It's definitely something to hold off on until it's properly optimized, that's for sure.
But once again it needs to be said, this is what happens when you buy an early access game.
This game is actually quite fun to play with friends, and taming dinosaurs is quite rewarding in itself.
First i tamed a "Dilo", smallish fiend that spits and blinds you.

Then i tamed a raptor and gave him a saddle and damn that dino can run :v:

And not forgetting the character creation is quite funny.

Jeez, I'm surprised that the fact that you apparently can make the unholy love spawn of Popeye and some beef jerky isn't listed as a feature.
Bought and played this game tonight and it is actually so amazingly good despite the performance issues, which don't really affect my system anyway. The features are actually well thought out and it is probably the first time I've legitimately enjoyed a survival game. The devs seem like an awesome bunch too.
Can't believe it is getting so much negativity.

Anyone got a video of this?
Why don't you purchase the game? You have as much cash as there are dongs

Because if there's anything the average Facepunch user loves more than ignoring any notice saying "this game is a work in progress", it's shit-talking about games they haven't played.
I bought the game today and sadly I can't seem to play it yet. Every time I try to join a server, the game loads a long time and then it kicks me back to the title screen after showing me a black screen. Starting a singleplayer game works, but it's all fucked up and stuttery in there. It looks like I'm in a fullbright source map, with a black sky and green water.
I'm not mad or anything, since I know it's early access, but I hope they'll optimize the game a bunch before adding more features.

That sure does make garry sound entitled

FP would rather hate on a game blindly more than anything else.
it does run like absolute shit

Refund it then re-buy later if you're still interested.
Fun game.
Unfortunately I can only run it in N64 mode so I won't be playing it more till I finish building this computer.
Is it worth buying it now so I don't have to pay full price later?

Well i can't say if its still going to be "alive" when it releases.
But if you can handle it right now and/or have friend to play it with, sure why not.
Its a pretty fun game already, and i can't see it going any worse tbh.
They have been releasing some patches with perfomance fixes.
You could always just wait for a few patches, the discount still runs for a few days i believe.

Oh and by the way, is this really going to be the main thread?
The title is "Ark survival looks terrible" :tinfoil:
Is it true there are guns in this?
Is it true there are guns in this?
I've not seen guns yet, but there are guns. They are craftable lategame i believe.
Is it true there are guns in this?
Yeah, you gain access to schematics as you level up, and guns are pretty high level schematics.
I'd be delighted if I could play the game smoothly like this

Smoothly?
That really depends on what you mean by that...
Some people say that 24 FPS is smooth and cinematic at once...
How many FPS do you get?
With that? Between 10-15fps. Varying between 20-30 on the settings I usually play with. Preferably Smooth? 50-60fps and higher.

I do really like the stylized look they're going for.
Also they get points for being the first [sp2]available[/sp2] game with a quadrupedal Spinosaurus based on the new skeletals, AND for not pretending their bizarre designs are actual dinosaurs.
I love all the different type of creatures in this game.
They even want to add a freakin Gigantopithecus :v:
They even want to add a freakin Gigantopithecus :v:
And now I really want this game to do well. Gigantopithecus does not have enough appearances in games.
[sp2]i really hope they make it an enormous orangutan instead of a silly orange bigfoot, besides being more accurate it's just cooler[/sp2]
Oh and by the way, is this really going to be the main thread?

Well, I did say on the first page that we have another thread, but it's had less activity and first started in the Rust forum (by Rust posters unaware that there's a GGD), so the title isn't as catchy. [sp2]Also has a former Rust fanboy fanboying loudly over Ark before it was even released[/sp2]
Is player level persistent over servers?
Is player level persistent over servers?
It's tied to the server.
You can transfer your character between servers though by visiting an obelisk. Not sure if it works at the moment though.
I think that's from official servers to unofficial servers/offline?
I'm kinda intrigued by this, but since I have a shit computer I'll probably buy it for ps4 when it comes out (it will, right?)
