I think A.C. Doyle's The Lost World would make for a pretty good game.
game just updated to have mod support via the ue4 editor
i like these devs
Anyone else on official PVE servers get lag when fighting dinos? Like they glitch everywhere.
That's in all full servers I think, the netcode is shit but in a way it also works in our advantage. I've been able to kill level 40+ dinosaurs with my spear on my level 2 character without getting hit once.
It is pretty shitty though, the rubberbanding is intense.
Yea this game has horrible netcode, singleplayer is good but holy shit online...
If singleplayer's good I may try to play a bunch alone. I feel like it'll be more enjoyable until they fix up multiplayer a bit. I found that I was having some fun doing my own thing, got excited when I tamed my first dino (a dilo, who subsequently died defending me from a sabertooth), but when I was invited to join a tribe where they were kind enough to give me a saddle and help me knock out a raptor to tame, I was bored the next day. It kinda took out a hunk of enjoyment/achievement I otherwise would've had.
The private server I'm hosting myself works without problems. Then again it's only me and my buddy on the server.

You had help taming a raptor and you got bored? You haven't even scratched the surface of the game yet. A large part of this game is gathering, so just take your pet raptor out and have an adventure. Go gather the thousands of metal you need to do anything late game, or slowly start learning how to tame each dinosaur by yourself, you can never be too prepared.

I had gone out with my raptor and built a little house, with a 1x1 roofless house for my raptor, and logged off, only to wake up to him gone.

Recently tamed this lil' guy.
Pic not showing for me.
Also I want those Pachycephalosauruses already. Tameable Titanoboas please~
why does this game have ps2 graphics
why does this game have ps2 graphics
Depends on your graphic settings. Mine looks quite beautiful to be honest.
So, full on mod support has piqued my interest in this game again, but I guess I have to ask the ever so popular question.
Does this game still run like hot ass?
I initially got the game last month, but refunded it because I could barely get above 25 FPS at the absolute lowest settings despite having an FX-8350 and GTX 970.
The game has obviously had some updates, and perhaps with mod support, people can just mod the game so it doesn't run like hot ass, but I'm still curious if it's gotten any better since mid-June-ish.
It can. But there are a few things you can do to make it preform better.
Here's what I put in my launch command -useallavailablecores -sm4 -d3d10
Last two you really don't need. Does make the lighting a bet meh, but the first one is a must.
-useallavailablecores
I have to wonder why this isn't a default setting.
I guess I can understand, but really?
Eh, I'll see if I have enough money after paying bills tomorrow to get it again.

The last two options made my game look like shit. All shadows were gone and the lighting was wonky.
Does it not use all 4 cores? That's odd. Any other good tweaks?

[MORE NOTES TO COME]
The patch notes sound totally awesome. Though I wanted my Pachy next week ;_; Oh, well... I'm still so happy to hear that the GPS collars are coming (even though I have loooong way to even get the modern tech :D).

Hey, I warned you. But honestly I'd rather have the game run, instead of it looking pretty.
Well the game is looking increasingly impressive to me. I'll admit when I first heard about it I thought it was going to bomb pretty hard, but obviously it's getting more support than most EA games. I vowed not to buy any more EA games, everytime I come in this thread I'm persuaded a little more to get it.

I'm honestly surprised it got past the "flavor of the month" phase that most survival games go through. You know, that period of a month when a new survival game hits Steam Early Access, everyone goes batshit over it because of something awesome or silly in it, and then just drops it to continue playing Rust or DayZ instead. Like what happened with GRAV or Reign of Kings.
It probably helps that the developers are constantly updating the game, and it'll definitely help now that there's a mod editor for it. I don't think that's something that any survival game has right now. They're also being smart about releasing the modding tools, throwing them out there while there's still massive interest in the game, instead of much later down the line when the potential modding community is essentially dead.
And hey, it's at least nice to know that if the devs ever abandon the game, since it has modding tools, the community could essentially pick up where they left off.

Yeah, most survival games seem to have bombed. I haven't personally played Rust outside of the crazy early alpha, but it looks pretty good and obviously isn't dead. I hear nothing about DayZ development though so in my head it's dead. Ark doesn't have my full confidence yet but I'm not doubting it either.
Is there a Facepunch Tribe and what server is everyone on?

I can tell you that Dayz isn't dead, but man the development sucks. They break as much stuff as they fix and it's now barely playable. I have a GTX 980 and I can't run it with more than 10 FPS. It's crazy retarded

And for that reason I think of it as dead. If it suddenly turns around into an amazing game that's great but until then it's EA game that I feel I lost out on along with The Stomping Land, Pulsar: Lost Colony, Spacebase DF-9...

Well i hope they'll add more modern tech, Like modern armor? Military helmets? Ballistic goggles?

Night vision goggles would be pretty sweet. Also high tech binoculars with zoom option would probably be my fave thing ever. Then again I want a view distance increaser so that at least you could see the dinos with your spyglass instead of empty island.
Also I'd just want to use my spyglass while riding on a mount. It's weird they haven't enabled that yet.
This guy had his tribe destroyed by EVE players:

I'd argue that it's basically been dead since Dean Hall left Bohemia and ran off to make his new game, Ion. Aka "a game that isn't a game."
Hall even admits himself that DayZ's success was sort of an accident. It's a mod he made that he thought not that many people would play, but instead, hundreds of thousands of people started buying ARMA II just to play it. As such, he didn't really have the funds or resources to fully develop it, so he sold it to Bohemia, and I guess left when he had enough of it. And given Bohemia is probably more focused on ARMA III right now, it's no surprise that DayZ has sort of left their radar.
I haven't really followed DayZ since it went standalone though, so I don't know about any other potential pitfalls with it. All of my thoughts are just assumptions and could probably be absolutely wrong.
