I went into the entire MGS series a few weeks ago with most of the bigger plotpoints spoiled (because I read imageboards a lot and /v/ is a bad place) and still got a lot of enjoyment out of it, honestly. To date the [sp]MGS1 emulation[/sp] in MGS4 is still the craziest thing that's happened in a videogame I've played, blew me away.
Do I need to complete all the subsistence and extreme missions to progress with the story ?
wow so (item spoiler)[sp]stealth camo[/sp] doesn't work versus vehicles/on combat alert? What is this complete bullshit? How will I complete that mission 46 side objective now [editline]25th September 2015[/editline] I've got it, smoke grenades and [sp]infinity bandana[/sp]. Haha here I come you bastards
Try [sp]mist parasites and NVG's, which is pretty weird I guess since theres a description error, only the camo parasites restrict your rank on missions.[/sp]
Do I need to complete all the subsistence and extreme missions to progress with the story ?
No
Where did you get this spoiled? If I did not have access to the game, I'd have avoided all MGSV related things like the plague. As for how spoiled [sp]not too much. I mean, it's like "whoa big plot twist woooOoooOoo", but it doesn't really impact the experience. You *are* Big Boss. You might not be Naked Snake Big Boss, but you still are Big Boss in spirit and bad assery. In fact, it makes that one picture comparing Solid Snake to Naked Snake even funnier, since Naked Snake is still an autistic sperglord technically.[/sp]
Made the terrible mistake of being bored as fuck and visiting the finnish version of 4chan But yeah i guess it's alright, after all TPP seems to be gameplay-wise the best MGS ever so i'm bound to have a shitload of fun anyway
Try [sp]mist parasites and NVG's, which is pretty weird I guess since theres a description error, only the camo parasites restrict your rank on missions.[/sp]
Yeah I just noticed they see through my fucking smoke grenades too, doesn't help they're only level 2 I'll try that
wait what? if he becomes a sickass skeleton warrior then it seems i have some kids to kill
you just get a little bloody, no SKELETON WARRIORS well except Skull Face, [sp]but the only fight he's ever is in a tape.[/sp]
[sp]As I said before, letting a man live with his mistakes is much worse than just killing him outright.[/sp] [sp]They're early 80's nanomachines to explain the plot- sure, they're much better explained in comparision and overall don't give you a bad taste in your mouth like 4's do, but in the end it's still just a plot device.[/sp]
I definitely appreciate that there's [sp]a pseudoscientific explanation behind it but like krunch said, Code Talker doesn't half drag on. The story is mostly about finding out what Skull Face is up to, then Code Talker is introduced near the end to explain... da vocal chord parasites... male to female... wolbachia... across more tapes than they really warrant. Personally, I thought they were as overused as nanomachines. Granted you don't find out about them until late but then it turns out most plot points before and afterwards are because of da parasites.[/sp]
Yeah I just noticed they see through my fucking smoke grenades too, doesn't help they're only level 2 I'll try that
If you're still having trouble keep in mind that the [sp]mist parasites[/sp] function like a sandstorm, so you're still gonna get spotted up close by soldiers. If you do then get some distance between yourself and the enemy and then flank the vehicles from their unsuspecting sides.

Firstly because of the sheer ridiculousness of what they can apparently do. [sp]Like, telekinetically forming giant glowing rocks that explode out of the ground? The fuck? The other problem is that they're this far back in the timeline. Why the fuck does no one use them after this? Why don't we see entire armies of fucking invisible super soldiers who can survive rocket launchers to the face, turn people into zombies, teleport around and telekinetically throw giant pieces of exploding rock at people?[/sp]

While they may be as overused as nanomachines, at least they bothered giving a shit about where they came from than just dumping them on us and making us deal.[/sp]

They may still exist out there but only Code Talker and Diamond Dogs know anything about them and they aren't talking.[/sp]

Other than [sp]Liquid taking control of Ocelot through his arm, which was eventually retconned anyway[/sp], most of it's pretty plausible. Exaggerated, sure, but plausible. [sp]Only problem is they also retconned Vamp's powers to be nanomachines. The regeneration and immortality isn't entirely implausible, but running on water seems pretty unlikely, and the shadow pinning shit is completely ridiculous. Seems like all that was silently retconned as well, but it was just sort of unnecessary.[/sp]
MGSV ending spoilers [sp]I'm kind of sad there aren't many emblem parts to make something medic oriented. No crosses, no "Medic" word. There's "Medical" but that's too long.[/sp] MGSV endgame unlock spoiler (nothing serious) [sp]Just 4 missions away from Raiden costume.[/sp]
Kiefer was only paid for an hour of dialogue :payne:
IS THIS SERIOUS
(mission 46 and outfit spoilers) I did it. Yesssssssss Thanks for the tips Akzon0r That was a high level of bullshit on behalf of the enemy. I didn't know soldiers could pinpoint locate you through heavy mist just by the sound of your gun firing
If you noticed from the beginning of the game that [sp]venom snake doesn't smoke actual nicotine products IE a real cigar[/sp] you'd probably be suspicious of the nature of [sp]"Big Boss" V-Snake[/sp] and why wouldn't he [sp]smoke? It's because nicotine addiction is a biological thing that you can't reproduce in another person without forcing them to smoke, and how are you gonna do that with him in a coma?[/sp] Besides[sp]because you play as the medic, he probably wouldn't smoke anyway due to him knowing the danger of smoking in the first place[/sp] end game spoileroos.
Kinda' funny how spot on some of those old theories were. This one's from about a year ago, I think. Spoilers: http://i.imgur.com/VVjvDjR.jpg
you just get a little bloody, no SKELETON WARRIORS well except Skull Face, [sp]but the only fight he's ever is in a tape.[/sp]
Oh, I thought he meant the full "demon" Snake from the E3 2014 trailer. My bad.
So I'm trying poorly to make old solid snake [thumb]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/686027878083893731/8596DB99B2B49CDCBB30FF9944706AC0E9FDB186/[/thumb] I just wish it looked the same in game...
Considering how much dialogue there is in the series things like these around bound to happen.
Really though, (ending spoilers) [sp]there were too many hints in the years of marketing suggesting Venom isn't Big Boss. The "medic is Venom Snake" theories popped up the day Ground Zeroes released and we already knew Kiefer was voicing Ishmael so there were only a few possibilities. The only reason I never bought into it was because I thought it'd be a poor twist, and I still do.[/sp]

Constipated as fuck
Did someone test the rocket launchers? I have them all fully developed and I'm not sure which is the strongest. The one that looks like the rocket launcher from Ground Zeroes seems to have the best stats (damage, spare ammo) but then there's the Javelin-style launcher which has weaker damage on paper but each shot is actually several rockets at once.

I thought there was some imaginary friend stuff going on. Turns out the explanation was just *fart noise*. Seriously, BB dies and/or is gravely wounded like 5 times in the hospital mission. What's the dealio? Judging by the original Phantom Pain trailer, the whole mission was probably pretty close to being finished back in 2012. I'm pretty sure Ishmael was not supposed to be BB originally.[/sp]

Presumably the damage is for each individual rocket, and it has 8 when fully upgraded. It can almost OHKO one of the skulls, while the strongest individual rocket takes like a 5th of their health The precious metal cost makes it pretty expensive though.

Can we all agree the few new characters introduced in MGSV (GZ and TPP) were way, way better than the characters introduced in MGS4? [sp]MALE.[/sp] [sp]TO.[/sp] [sp]FEMALE.[/sp] [sp]TRANSFORMATION.[/sp]

I still dont understand how much of ENDING spoilers: [sp]parasite stuff and such explanations you can hear from Code Talker are basically never mentioned again. First Skulls, then there's.... metallic archaea which randomly appeared out of nowhere once, killed your chopper into rust, then never mentioned ever again? where did that go? [/sp]
