Unless Huey went on to make even more weapons of mass destruction after how well it went all those other times 1984 is the cutoff for Huey-tech, the fucker was probably such a super-genius that Metal Gears made without him suddenly started looking like crap
I think it was more the Huey-Strangelove duo that got things going. ST84 would have been stuck in REX mode if not for Mantis, since Huey [sp]fucking murdered her[/sp].

Nope he stole from Granin.
MGSV spoilers, [sp]I get that Strangelove is dead and all but I thought the implication was that she managed to get Hal away from Huey to prevent his bullshit, but then Hal's living with Huey and Emma afterwards in the timeline since his tragic childhood trauma has to happen and all.[/sp]
So ST-84 could only be piloted by [sp]kids or midgets right? I'm not saying that because Mantis was controlling it but it had a very small cockpit and Huey mentioned that there wasn't enough space inside for something like an AI unit[/sp]
[sp]that's what eli does in 51, or would have rather[/sp]

It makes sense. [sp]Stranglove gets Hal away from Huey and dies. Huey is still being held captive by Skull Face and thus can't get Hal back. After leaving Diamond Dogs he finds Huey and a new wife[/sp]
Retcon since the technology has been retcon'd to be better. Even the shagohod was more advanced.
They were developed independently and, again, with mass production in mind. Seems to me like you haven't play Metal Gear 1 and 2; the scary thought wasn't of a single Metal Gear existing. It was of thousands of them walking across a continent and nuking anything Big Boss saw fit.
In terms of mass production, everything that came after ST84 was much more practical. And it's been proven time and again in this series how useless a single Metal Gear is; even one like ST84.

might want to throw the tags on that

Well i mean.
The TX-55 and MG-D were essentially giant D-Walkers with Davy Crocketts strapped to them.
So i'd be inclined to disagree, considering it didnt need fucking jet boosters to actually fire the warhead.
All you RAY fanboys are in denial. The only successful engagement RAY ever had was against a bunch of marines who were taken completely off guard and had no means of damaging it.
25 RAYs against Raiden? Blown the fuck out.
RAY against Solidus? Blown the fuck out.
RAY against half destroyed, decade old REX? Blown the fuck out.
Desperado's custom RAY against pre-upgrade cyborg Raiden? Blown the fuck out.
Desparado's custom RAY against Sam? Blown the fuck out.
RAY is the Commander Worf of the Metal Gear universe. It exists solely to show how cool everything else is.
[sp]that's what eli does in 51, or would have rather[/sp]
That's what I mean, Skullface compensated for it the simplest, most straightforward way by just making the cockpit smaller. He probably had a manlet XOF soldier he intended to pilot it

Actually, this fucking reminds me, because the RAY caught the Harrier in MGS2.
Does anyone ever fucking talk about the fact that Vamp is a god damn ace fighter jet pilot? At all?
Did ANYONE fucking notice? How in gods name was that never mentioned ever again by anyone, ingame, in real life, on the internet, nobody mentions it.

Ace fighter pilot.
Couldn't shoot down a near stationary helicopter or a single man on a bridge.
To be honest even though Peace Walker and its derivatives were advanced for the 70's, it was mainly due to the AI and because Huey is actually pretty badass in his mechanical work at least. Same with ZEKE.
Sahelanthropus / ST-84 is probably singlehandedly the most insane Metal Gear in the series for its place in the timeline, [sp]it's the biggest, it has a firey nanofibre whip that can turn into a sword, it can create gigantic tears through the landscape with said whip extending under its control in a way resembling the Skulls' rock formation control, it can fucking sprint without stumbling over itself, and other factors.[/sp]
And even that can be explained away by a creation literally funded by Cipher operations directly with the intent of being a superweapon, compared to the more modest Outer Heaven and Zanzibarland Metal Gears. REX would then pick up the slack two decades later thanks to the machinations behind why it was made.

Hey now.
Thats Solidus' fault.
Most insane Metal Gear sure, but also the least practical and least effective.
Take it from history, friends.

The Maus looks more impressive at first, but in reality the Tiger II was a far more effective weapon.

It's actually ridiculous how easy Sahelanthropus is compared to REX as a boss fight. [sp]Were it not for the plot refusing to let us do it, we probably could've taken it down in the first encounter despite it being complete, but no, we had to recover Huey's sorry ass.[/sp]
That's what I mean, Skullface compensated for it the simplest, most straightforward way by just making the cockpit smaller. He probably had a manlet XOF soldier he intended to pilot it
Impossible,
XOF are in peak condition and do extensive tactical operations training every single day of their life.
THEY KNOW THE HAND SIGNALS, THEY KNOW HOW TO HOLD SMGs WITH GASMASKS ON, THEY KNOW HOW TO BLOW UP MOTHERBASES, THEY KNOW HOW TO KICK YOUR ASS!
Has anyone seen surveillance cameras anywhere else besides mission 30? I noticed there's a combat deployment where you can have your soldiers destroy surveillance cameras, but why bother?

You know there was one manlet who was under 5'10 who was going to pilot the st-84. He probably fought the hardest of all of them to make up for his short stature

Nova braga airport. You do the missions for the GMP and resources
The bow stuff up deployment missions always have a higher casualty rate so I wouldn't do them for the gmp. Also they take longer.

I'm on mission 23 or something and I've noticed them. So far just in [sp]that airport[/sp] though.

What annoys me about them is that helmets, riot suits, armor, etc. always come back as soon as they're removed. I'm essentially trading one A-C soldier for some fuel resources
xof soldiers are no match for 2 near naked men with pistols
ey man one was a pirate
On the whole metal gear technology thing, we also have to keep in mind the Philosopher's Legacy- Volgin, Coldman, even Gene had huge amounts of money and time at their disposal to just throw at shit, something later individuals didn't really have when building their mechs. Funnily enough, the only one whose metal gear plans came to fruition was Big Boss's (the arguably cheapest nuclear metal gears produced) in the form of Geckos, small yet intimidating metal gears made to dominate the land.
On the topic of the TX-84, [sp]watching it's boss battle again really reminded me of Peace Walker. Big as fuck robot requiring tons of supply drops and rockets to take down.[/sp]
[sp]Yeah, a nuke is extreme amounts of demon points. The only way to eventually work it away is to avoid killing people, dismantle nukes, fulton a lot. It decreases the demon points, and, contrary to what some may say, Heroism has nothing to do with Demon.[/sp]
Ah okay [sp]I was planning on dismantling my nuke for the achievement. So hopefully that will lower my Demon Points. Sucks wish you could kinda see how much you had though.[/sp]

Technically, you can take it down in the first encounter if you have gear good enough, but that only serves to deal with it instead of having to try and stealth past a fucking [sp]Psycho Mantis controlled[/sp] mecha.

those fuel resources are clutch, man
I've actually just been grinding the Hellbound mission for fuel right now. In the little area near where you start there's 7500 fuel, 500 PM, and thousands of MM or CM or something in the hangar. You need a wormhole fulton to get them out, but you can do that, read the intel file there, go back to the last checkpoint, then return to ACC to keep your stuff. Takes like 5 minutes. It's grindy, but you need so much fuel to max out your platforms.
