Everyone is blaming Konami and yes they are making horrible decisions but can we stop pretending and admit Konami simply doesn't have endless resources and Kojima most likely got carried away with his ideas?
Yeah, that much is obvious. As far as I've seen, Chapter 1 alone takes the average player 60 hours to complete, side ops included. Chapter 1 could have been fleshed out more and been the entire game, but Kojima dreamed way too big.

Watch the unfinished mission on youtube or on the extra dvd if you have the CE it made my blood boil that Konami didn't let him do it. [editline]23rd September 2015[/editline]
MGS V ate up 80 million dollars. I can understand Konami pulling the plug. It still hurts.
And then they pretty much made that back within 2 weeks.

Publishers want to make a game as cheaply and quickly as possible, while game devs always want unlimited time and money to make the best game possible. Just because Kojima's series was historically successful and profitable doesn't mean he was immune to that, as we rather abruptly found out.
But the question that I have is, these 80 millions, are only for MGS V, or it takes into account the development of the FOX Engine? Because if I remember it right, Valve spent 100 millions developing Source.
After being raided successfully about half a hundred times, my guards are finally killing off intruders! Now they know how I feel! Give me that free Hamoa
And then they pretty much made that back within 2 weeks.
While it broke sales records for any MGS game. It still hasn't made any profit at all. In game development and publishing, the release weeks are always crucial for the game... and so far MGS V was a financial disaster for Konami.
The 80s music is cool but it was completely unnecessary and I wonder how much licensing it added to the budget. It's like all the 80s music did was remind you that even though there's all this future tech, it's the only indicator that it takes place in the 80s aside from the computers in Huey's lab
fuck this stupid mission because the first time took me forever and when i found out you could just do this then all enjoyment i got out of it was immediately gone
MGS V ate up 80 million dollars. I can understand Konami pulling the plug. It still hurts.
Idk, they'd just about probably broken even on preorders alone, now they're in the profit zone. I suppose Kojima/Konami releasing this episodically would have worked. I.e mechanics don't change, but we pay a smaller amount but still a relatively large price for Chapter 1, then 2 a year or so later, then 3 etc however long they plan on letting it go on. That'd cost them a lot less since they'd not need to work on many new mechanics or even develop many new assets, it'd just be writing, designing and implementing. Win, win: we get more MGS they get more money. AAA companies need to find new alteratives for working on games, since most AAA games are unfinished nowadays.
Honestly, (major spoilers) [sp]I can get behind the idea that we're technically Big Boss / Venom Snake as part of the legend, but it feels unsatisfying because there's only a few standout moments where we / Venom actually seem to have our actions play out with results that should. Mainly Skullface, Huey and Paz. Meanwhile the real Big Boss, who lost his Mother Base, the MSF and nearly lost all of his greatest allies at the time, decides to leave it all behind once he learns of Zero's and Ocelot's plan so he could go make Outer Heaven - when he has more than enough reason to seek vengeance for the men he lost. Remember how lost he looked, how angry he was from Ground Zeroes? You'd think he'd personally want to resolve such problems, but no, he leaves it to the body double since Skull Face was specifically targeting them, doesn't even contact anyone so the ruse is kept until the tape to us.[/sp]
Talking about the ending [sp]can someone explain to me why kaz didn't know that we are big bosses double? When you are on the hospital bed with big boss dying next to you, Kaz says 'what about him?' and nods towards the player which hinted that it was Kaz's idea to make you into a bodyswap, but then when he talks to ocelot he's like 'oh no i didn't know i've lost the real boss :(' I've not played any other games so i don't know [/sp]

Long time I bought my best IRL friend tf2 and he got super into the idea of contributing hats (this was before workshop and mannconomy) and stared using blender and actually got some in (Mechamedes and Hard Headed Hardware) Recently he made this amazing Solid Snake Scout in celebration of MGSV, and I thought I'd repost it here since he said he wasn't going to post it himself
[IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/CJRiijj.png?1[/IMG_thumb][IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/q6WV3yf.png?1[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/4dbxPf2.png?1[/IMG_thumb] [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/zvsgLVn.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Its all done except for the flexes on the eyes (and their vertex norms) Poster is placeholder but I felt that I should share it anyway.
also the bandanna jiggle in action: I am genuinely impressed with and awestruck by it, and I hope you guys are too and as a bonus I did this loadout while he was working on it, Heavy Big Boss [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/423692561617621668/F0C37259D3D6ECF3C3AC7BD915FE22A605BB140F/[/t]
You guys are getting these threads locked so damn fast, jesus.
You guys are getting these threads locked so damn fast, jesus.
I didn't even realize I was going to have the last post on the previous thread, whoopsie :v:
Talking about the ending [sp]can someone explain to me why kaz didn't know that we are big bosses double? It'd explain why he wasn't aware of the plan until Ocelot tells him, or why he didn't know what the hell Zero was talking about when he told him about the basics of the 'V has come to' plan. My problem is that despite knowing this for the rest of the game, Kaz is also without even so much as a single hint towards it all accepting you as Big Boss' replacement, not even a grumble or gripe about the real Big Boss the entire time. It's like he was written without knowing only for the true ending to have him know the whole time.[/sp]

I mean, they're fictional guns and advanced technology is all over the place anyway, but still. Instead we get a not!1911, not!Makarov, and not!Glock.

The amount of details Kojima has put into this game.. But [sp]when fighting Quiet you hear the shot first and then the bullet hits, when it should be vice versa[/sp]
On the subject of character development, was anyone else disappointed with Eli? [sp]During MGS1 Liquid says Big Boss "always told me I was inferior", backing up the notion that Big Boss was constantly an asshole and explaining Liquid's resentment towards him. But in MGSV it turns out Liquid was already a brat who hated Big Boss anyway, and instead of telling Liquid he's shit Big Boss tries giving him a fresh start at a life without battle. This straight up contradicts the fact Big Boss believed in nothing but war, something that Liquid is adamant about in MGS1. So it turns out "Big Boss" was nothing but good to him but he ignored his entire experience with the man, from personal feelings to ideology. Not to mention his whole purpose in the story is to get beat up twice, escape with Sahelanthropus and get stopped in a cut mission. It doesn't build on previous backstory so much as it contradicts it, it feels like a poorly shoehorned U-turn with no real bearing on the plot.[/sp]

Especially since Ocelot talks about how he'll hypnotize himself and forget all about it.[/sp]

It does disappoint me that we don't even see the start of this 'blood feud' though considering how central it was to Liquid's character in MGS1. Should I make the guards on my 4/4 FOB long range or stick with mid-range?
Should I make the guards on my 4/4 FOB long range or stick with mid-range?
People have said that going short range nonlethal on at least one platform is a good idea because it helps fight against the cheaters that don't have a way to instantly fight off stun, and shotguns are great for that.
