Metal Gear Solid - A Hideo Kojima Thread - Flimsy Huey and the Phooey Fallacy

what kills me about 5 is how it had no impact on us at all in terms of the plot. Besides the [sp]truth tapes[/sp] absolutely none of the information we've learned expands on the plot in a meaningful way. All it is is an extra, complicated, unneeded step on the way for MSF to become Outer Heaven.
At least OH got a new logo
So how do I get allies for my FOB? Thought it was by friends list but I don't have any to defend on the ingame list.

The only way to add allies is to get a randomized list of people you can add. Support some random people and they might support you.
Thought I saw someone earlier in the thread talking about how they defended someone else heres fob like 20 times :v:

Go to relationships and you can add random people it picks for you. They usually add you back.
Can someone tell me the name of the moron who thought it would be a good idea to make every single NPC on the FOB immediately know where you are if you even so much as get tickled by a bullet or explosion from the defender?
I'm starting to feel a bit down about the CQC in 5, sure it gets the job done, but I feel like the pinnacle of CQC and disarming in the MGS series was mixed between 4 and Peace Walker. I know 4's CQC is basically 3's without the pressure sensitive stuff, but I also really liked being able to perform a hold-up knockout from the front, as well as searching enemies for crap, frankly I'm surprised you can't search soldiers in 5. Another thing I always got a kick out of was being able to do a prone chokehold in 4.
Oh, and if there is one thing I will really, really miss that ended after 3 (at least I think so), first person punches. Starting from 2, and up to 3 you could go into first person and punch people in the groin for an instant knockout. Shame it never got carried over.

Had it been any other way you'd be complaining that guards are standing around like idiots while you're in a firefight with an intruder
You got caught, get over it
Seriously out of all the things you could be complaining about FOBs as an intruder, the intelligence of the guard AI is is not one of them

I never said anything about the intelligence of the guard AIs, you dipshit. I'm talking about how if the defender literally has no idea where you are, can start chucking grenades everywhere willy nilly, somehow hit you with the absolute edge of the explosion and OH MAN EVEN THOUGH I CAN'T SEE THIS GUY HE'S OBVIOUSLY RIGHT THERE. Don't be an asshole, asshole.

I kinda get what you mean but you don't have to be a dick about it. I'd say it should only cause an alert if you directly aim at the invader and the crosshair turns red.

I'd be okay with that, I'd also be okay with the defender marking you and even shooting you with a stray bullet, because if you hit them with a bullet then you have to have eyes on them. What I don't like is being able to find out where they are by throwing grenades everywhere and hoping for a lucky hit.

Jeez man calm down
I seriously doubt Kojima would ever make a ruse that's that obvious. Might as well just have a website called rusebykojima.org.
Can anyone here tell me why nonlethals for FOB security are useful?

MGSV needed a training montage between Snake and Ocelot set during the two week trip to Afghanistan.

Did I hit a nerve?
It's not as effective as you think. All you need to do is get off the main platform and watch how quickly the defender can waste all his ammo on killing his own security force
The most likely situation is the defender spotted you turning a corner and nailed you with a grenade

Harder to gauge how much health left you have when you get hit, battle dress doesn't help, you get a lot more espionage score if the invader gets fultoned rather than killed, guards get gas masks. Also good against cheaters since there's no cheats against non-lethals, but I've not seen any cheaters ever since they started banning people, myself
Kind of a gamble though, if the invader knows what he's doing, especially if there's no defender they can easily smash through your security team
Whoa, whoa. I've been trying to figure out how the penetration stat works, and this whole time I was under the impression the Brenan and Serval were the only weapons that could pierce helmets and armor whole because of their ridiculous penetration, but it turns out the WU S324LB tier 5 revolver can do it too, and it has a smaller penetration stat than assault rifles, and sniper rifles.
I don't understand, is there something I'm missing? Are there any other weapons that can penetrate helmets in a single shot?

Wasting ammo is one thing, however, when you have underbarrel grenade launchers, rapid fire grenade launchers, grenade pistols, MIRV launchers, actual frag grenades he can toss, it's going to be a while, and I know he had no idea where I was because I saw him toss grenades elsewhere before he tossed one my way. I'm not pissed about getting caught, it's the fact that he managed to discern my location by randomly tossing explosives without physically seeing my location.

Thanks.
Anyone know if the birthday scene changes/becomes unavailable if you have your birthday AFTER you've beat the game or lost people like Emmerich and Quiet?? I haven't beaten the game yet but
Non-lethal FOB security is basically a band-aid ontop of the hacker problem should they not just bind an easy lolteleport hack to your goal point. If a player is competent, hacker or not, or ultimately efficient and actually decent at the game, they'll probably blow through your security team anyway or sneak on through.

I'm playing on my roommate's XBone so I'm not too worried about the hacker problem.
I guess I'll just leave it on lethal then?

High level lethal security teams are actually very difficult to brute force your way through, especially long range, it becomes a clusterfuck of snipers, mortars, AA guns and endless reinforcements. I think you're more likely to run out of ammo or time than be able to smash through a 4/4 BDU set on long range full of A++
Of course, sneaking through is always the best option but that's kind of the point
kojima actually saved my grade. Today in my history seminar the professor asked us how information is architecturally flawed and i instantly thought of MGS 2 and the patriots creating context of information. I pointed out that context (within history) was largely euro-centric and was a method of conquering other peoples by controlling the thoughts that lay behind the history.
I also, following the same information pointed out that there really is no difference between primary and secondary sources, and also that besides that, it's another form of segregation of people.
