The only way to get them is by volunteers. Like doing FOBs. You won't find them out in the open.

Oh. Well I feel like it had to be that way; as the series' first and only open world game it's most convenient for the story as a whole if your choices in game have minimal weight on the story.
I'm not complaining though. Unlike Miller, the story can stand independently on its own two legs. I feel like this game's story should be viewed slightly aloof from those of other Metal Gear games.

I found that weird considering snake acts like he doesn't speak english later on. I'm guessing they reused lines from the duel

Grindfest, nothing from the campaign is transferred to MGO3. Im fairly certain on it.
Well, hopefully not an actual Korean Grindfest. Im sure its all level based but they might have more hard to earn stuff like what MGO2 has with reward points only being earnable in competitive matches.

Only the Avatar from the beginning of the game as far as I know. Although I hope character back-ports can happen, even if it has to be via modding.

Just play offline then. We expected things to be encrypted, and we should've figured that FOBs would complicate matters, especially legally.
Thankfully actual notable mods that change things will just boot both players if they're active during an invasion so things don't get worse.
So this is an issue I just learned about from a friend who just started up the game and can't play it. If you have the small preorder/collectors edition DLC on your console and deactivate the account that owns it(He account shares with a friend and I guess that friend deactivated his account on the system), you can't start up the fucking game.
That's really stupid as hell, it's just minor shit like gun recolors and camos.
