god that X-ray Phantom Pain poster with the hook hand looked so fuckin cool, i wish they didn't jump straight to the robot arm after the intro
Get the HD collection or Legacy collection on ps3.
Don't have a PS3 unfortunately but the HD collection is on Xbox too I think. I'll end up buying a PS3 whenever I get to 4, and I think that's all I'd need, right?
EDIT: Forgot to mention I have a PS2 for MGS1

Ya MGS4 is the only one you need a ps3 for.
You're a weird person.
What for? Not playing a console shooter online game that went offline when I was like 17?
Edit:
It's not like I can just hop up and go play it now that I care about MGS
Ya MGS4 is the only one you need a ps3 for.
Good to hear; I'll look for a decently-priced copy of 1 and cross the PS3 bridge when I come to it. Thanks for the help, guys!

IMO not missing much, I recently got the PS3 legacy collection and the only two games I actually finished were HD MGS2 and 3. Kinda wish twin snakes was ported. I'm not sure if this is included with the Xbox version but the first two MGS games had voice acted motion comics on disc for me in dvd form
[editline]2nd October 2015[/editline]
Speaking of not sure if the case of Xbox, but my collection made me download a PS1 classics of MGS1, there was no HD or on disc version, so you may need internet connectivity with your Xbox
Edit:
I just didn't find MGS4 appetizing, the aliasing was hurting my eyes and the movement seemed clunky and it seemed to be mostly cutscenes, opted to just watch the movie edit.
For MGS1 I just had issue with the resolution since it wasnt an HD port, and also dated PS1 controls. Watched the motion comic.
Peace Walker, MGSV had already came out when I started and I didn't wanna be fucked with dealing with yet another separate mother base on a PSP port
Not gonna lie, I Wouldn't have minded if this game ripped off the Nemesis system in its whole, it would have made infinite missions.

I've heard bad things about twin snakes but it sounds so much like something I'd enjoy if its really just MGS1 on MGS2 engine. But I hear voice acting is horrid, I'm just not sure how horrid. The difficulty change for the easier due to mgs2 mechanics complaint I've heard wouldn't bother me.
Maybe someday I'll try to find a copy, but I don't think wii u lets you play gamecube discs. I wanna form my own opinion basically, but gamecube exclusive makes that hard
Edit:
Also, should edit this pic because (MGSV true ending spoilers) [sp]the two msx games aren't retconned at all now[/sp]

More games in general need to do this- sure, each soldier probably has a unique face, but if we could have more unique outfits for the opposition, it would make the game a lot better.

Twin Snakes has worse voiceacting (I wouldn't say terrible), but overall I'd argue it's the better product.

Almost every open world game would benefit from it I think honestly.

Now I'm confused, to be clear we're talking about the thing from Shadow of Mordor where the enemies remember you and their personality traits change based on your encounters, to the point where any of the normal open world orcs can become full fledged boss fights, with their own subordinate captains and followers?

Yeah, I wish they had ported it at some point for the legacy. Probably won't ever happen now. Maybe if the other games get ported to PC.
So now that I've mostly did everything I try to find something else to do before I go finish the very last few tasks. I fired all troublemakers and noticed I have quite a lot of boasters. How exactly they work again? Because in base management they seem to have pretty good stats.

There's no legacy collection for Xbox, or MGS1 for Xbox. The PC version is alright once you get it set up, you just have to deal with only being able to run in 8 directions for some reason.

Actually playing the game adds a lot to the experience of the story imo. It's still a great game despite the infuriating PSX camera and controls anyways.

Is there a guide on where to get PC mgs1 and how to "set it up", I've heard there's problems with it
Also would I be able to set res to 1080p? Obviously not the textures, but yknow. Any mods?

Make sure you play through the old MSX2 games or at least watch the movie versions of them on Youtube. Despite what some people say the MSX2 games are still canon and Metal Gear 2 in particular has a lot of story for an old 8-Bit action game and is really important to the overall events of the series. You will enjoy the first Metal Gear Solid a lot more if you know the characters and the events of Metal Gear 2.

Use this exe, it has fixes and should replace whatever the highest default res is with 1920x1080: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/kmydet69rek02v0/MGSI.exe
Set it to Win98 compatibility mode if it still doesn't work
EDIT: And these drivers work well for Dualshock 3 http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-XInput-Wrapper-for-DS3-and-Play-com-USB-Dual-DS2-Controller
I can't stress how much I recommend playing MGS1 for anyone interested in the series. The motion comic doesn't have jack on the actual game and the controls are still as simple and easy as they were 17 years ago.

I wouldn't say that the camera and controls in MGS1 are infuriating in any way, far from it. With the exception of a few areas in the game the camera is always from a top down perspective, you have the soliton radar system easily let's you know where enemies that you can't see are. The controls and stealth is incredibly intuitive and simple, all you really have to worry about is if your breaking the enemies line of sight or not.
MGS1 might as well be a 2D game with 3D graphics in terms of general control, playstyle and otherwise.

Dualshock 3 is PS3 right? I've been using a PS3 one with DS3 tool

I'm only mad about the camera because I tried extreme mode for my first playthrough before realizing it would be impossible unless I was familiar with the game or went into first person constantly. And I'm mad about the controls because of [sp]Sniper Wolf[/sp]. But it's usually not an issue yeah.
MGS1 might as well be a 2D game with 3D graphics in terms of general control, playstyle and otherwise.
It pretty much plays like a streamlined version of the old MSX2 games.
[editline]3rd October 2015[/editline]
Yeah Sniper Wolf can be really infuriating to fight.
How did you do extreme for your first playthrough? You have to beat the game once to unlock extreme difficulty.
Not gonna lie, I Wouldn't have minded if this game ripped off the Nemesis system in its whole, it would have made infinite missions.
"SNAKE! Remember that time you traqed me and left me in the middle of a field full of decoys? Well, that wouldn't work anymore, I had drug resistance training!"
How did you do extreme for your first playthrough? You have to beat the game once to unlock extreme difficulty.
I downloaded a save so I could select it.
That just sounds like a really bad decision.
There is a reason why you have to unlock extreme in the first place.
About to fulton some nukes and then I proceed to kill my self by jumping off a railing.
That just sounds like a really bad decision.
It's fun for most games. I like for it to be too hard at first, so then I have to get better until I can beat it. But fuck being even more nearsighted than the guards.

Early game I did the one highly-skilled soldier side-op that had a sniper on a cliff in Afghanistan. After having to fight my way past him because I alerted him without knowing he was there previously, I took him and his goons down non-lethally one tranq at a time and fultoned them.
Then I thought "hey it's not that high" and dived off the cliff where Snake took a dirtnap and had to do the side-op over again due to free roam area checkpoints.
