I find that to be true of Endless Legend too - It is an amazingly creative game, which is so cool, but it isn't a particularly deep or enjoyable one. I play it and pay for it to bask in the creativity on show, but I don't find myself playing it endlessly like Sword of the Stars, Distant Worlds: Universe and, (more similar to EL) Age of Wonders III
I feel like the games do lack that certain depth that the other games offer, which is quite a shame. There's mods for ES that add much to the depth though, so they are really worth checking out. Though mostly with these games it just feels like so much love went into everything, I can't hear pieces of the soundtrack and not feel happy on the spot. The memories of these games are just too great. For those interested, the most noteable mod is probably SuperNova which is a complete overhaul of nearly everything, unfortunately the mod hasn't been updated in a while so I don't suppose it will ever be developed further. Would Imperium Galactica fall under this heading? Among the first games I ever owned (no points for guessing the very first), and still occasionally pull it out and give it a go. Basically the source of my interest in this genre in general.
I find a lot of 4X to be really boring. Civ V actually puts me to sleep when I play it, Endless Space felt better but still not really enamouring, Endless Legends looked really awesome but didn't keep me engaged, and across all these I felt like the longer I was playing the less I was doing and never felt liked I was making progress in anything. I feel like I SHOULD like 4X games, I actually have a ton of them, but none have really grabbed me yet.
I got Sots2 to work stably on my computer excellent

They focus more on the combat and play like a real-time-strategy game but still have diplomacy and empire building like a 4X.

Star Ruler 2 has a pretty in-depth economic system that is fairly unique and can be overwhelming. Furthermore the diplomacy is quite compelling and far less shallow than in many other 4X games. As for combat, it's actually not that deep. Mostly the design of your ship is what matters but in terms of using strategies, you don't have much. Sins is definitely more combat oriented though.
Real men play Aurora: spreadsheet simualtor
aurora was the shit

But seriously though, Aurora is pretty cool but if you don't use the tutorials you'll likely spend 10 hours just trying to figure out how to do basic shit. Also it's free. [t]http://puu.sh/iGk35/524d2edfdc.png[/t]

Fun game until the AI goes into coffee mode but all there seemed to it was winning by combat.
By the way, One of the guys behind Star Ruler 2 is a Facepuncher. So buy that shit

i'm willing to give aurora a go but the fact that it's UI still resembles a tax program from 1995 still turns me off
you kinda just need to look past it and use your imagination, it's super deep
you kinda just need to look past it and use your imagination, it's super deep
My problem with Aurora is that it took me more time to learn how to set up a shipyard than it did to learn the entirety of Dwarf Fortress. Mostly because the tutorial told me to click on buttons that didn't exist. Has it been updated since like, 2012?
haha good question, I haven't played it since about that time
I remember installing aurora, and it turned all my right-click menu's text yellow, EVEN OUTSIDE THE GAME. It persisted even after uninstalling it. That game has no reason to be able to fuck shit up that way.
What's the most complex 4X space game right now? Aside from Aurora :v:

I need to know who. http://stevivor.com/2015/06/e3-2015-preview-master-of-orion/ Moo preview Analysis -Planet Mechanics resemble MOO:BAA in at least some ways
I've played Sins. Fun game until the AI goes into coffee mode but all there seemed to it was winning by combat.
Yeah unfortunately. Sins is incredibly close to being really good but some of the mechanics don't feel as though they have enough depth and there's really not too many options in how to play other than combat.
There's a lot of FPers who I'd not piss on if they were on fire. I need to know who.
Firgof Umbra and Thy Reaper. They aren't that active outside General Games. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1295093

Really unique.
http://arstechnica.co.uk/gaming/2015/06/master-of-orion-wants-to-be-a-wondrously-complex-4x-game-that-anyone-can-play/ Analysis: -Anomalies ranging from Pirates, to cash windfalls, to ships 'in need of help' -Planet Mechanics very similar to MOO:BAA -Doom Star capable of killing planets as late game tech.
