Amiibo tournies are all fun and games until some Amiibos become so broken all matches are a complete standstill and they learn to perfectly evade the Sudden Death bombs.
My friend had a Kirby Amiibo and it learnt from us playing 8 player smash and its play style was hilarious, it would camp a corner until it was pretty much forced to fight and when it fought all it would do is get 1 or 2 pot shots in and spot dodge literally everything you threw at it.
question
when your partner disconnects in a 1v1 does it replace them with a level 1 ai or something
because for 10 or so matches over the last month I was fighting folks who were putting up a good fight, there was a huge lag spike, and then they acted like lobotomized monkeys

Yeah, perfect shield and constant dodges, but never attacks. And if you disconnect you get punished with a timeout!
Nintendo needs to stop being shit online
I have played over 150 ganon matches in just two days.
Holy fuck.

Also all the stuff at Apex was super boring and dull and Pac-Man struggled to do anything. Stop getting bootyblasted that someone thinks a character is shit.
Like, I enjoy his design, I think he's a fun character to mess around with. His music is some of the best in the game. I just don't think he's that viable at all and belongs low low low tier.

Pac-Man struggled in that matchup because Rosalina can pretty much neutralize every projectile with Gravitational Pull. Not to mention Pac can stifle approaches from the ground with an air Hydrant.
Every character can be viable; it's just a matter of how to approach certain situations with a certain character's toolset.

The character is incredibly technical. His playstyle is centric around item charging and hydrant setups. As such it tends to not be all that engaging to watch until something actually happens, it's just the way that spacing and setup-based characters are. It's the same with Duck Hunt, Snake, and Villager. The deeper play with Pac-Man is focused on the variety of thrown items he has at his disposal, each with their own trajectories and knockback properties. If a player is smart, they'll grab the item in midair so they can do what is referred to as a Z-drop, in which instead of throwing the item, it's dropped straight down. This creates some devastating air combos that cannot normally be done, the bell in particular gives you a free smash attack follow-up.
Your gripes are with Pac-Man putting a hydrant out and using his power pellet to recover. Earth to Sift, having a hydrant out is key to actually getting a hydrant setup started, throwing it to spike an opponent is just an added benefit. Watching someone throw a hydrant out isn't all that interesting unless you know what the player is thinking when they put it out, only the player and people who play Pac-Man enough understand what is going through their head when a hydrant is "spammed." The power pellet is also his best recovery move because you can choose exactly where it goes and it has light armor, pair it with the trampoline and Pac-Man is pretty much guaranteed to get back on-stage unless you gimp him hard or steal the final trampoline bounce.
"Is he below me? Drop hydrant" "Can't drop hydrant? Spam Key and nothing else" "Am I off stage? Side B!!"
there's way more to pac-man than this. dropping the hydrant on people when you're above them isn't even that good of an option, it's easy to get away from and can backfire if they upsmash it. the hydrant has a couple of different speeds that are all useful in certain situations and can be used as a KO move, to cover an approach, or to buy you time while you charge neutral B. every neutral B option is useful, the cherry/strawberry come out really quick and have hitstun, orange has nice range and speed, the melon can be used when edgeguarding to force them into a certain recovery option or just as a mixup KO tool, and can also be regrabbed if it hit's a shield so you can z-drop it onto the hydrant to knock it away instantly, the galaxian can be regrabbed when it loops and thrown again which is amazing for racking up damage, the bell can combo out of dash and can convert into a forward smash to kill and can also kill offstage because it has decent knockback, and the key is obviously an amazing KO tool that can also knock away the hydrant in 1 hit. pac-man also has a solid air game and a really good dash attack and upsmash, and even though his grab is pretty bad he has good throw follow-ups like down throw to dash attack, and dash attack can lead into forward air (which often chains into itself or a nair) or bell depending on their percent. pac-man is one of the coolest smash bros characters of all time in my opinion and in all honesty he's pretty much the only reason i'm interested in this game at all. he's got a lot of really interesting options and a very unique playstyle.

Every hydrant setup you mention that I have seen, either in what I have played against, or watched in Apex is drop hydrant and stand on it to get to key and then kick it when you're done (and usually miss)
All the fruits have variations, yeah. But the key is so fast and powerful that aside from panic bells or the ship once in a blue moon it's all I ever ever see. People can post gifs of pacman throwing and catching the ship and doing combos and stuff but I've never seen it in practice. I just don't get why it's so hard to understand that I think his playstyle is dull and the only time I'm really interested in Pac-Man is when he plants a hydrant and scurries off to get a key and (as Dedede) I use his water to move me forward while I charge a fsmash to hit him

thank you for sharing with us your for glory experiences.
The most-potent combos are ones that have an item charged and ready before the hydrant drop. With that sort of preparation, you can Z-drop an item directly onto the hydrant (nair if necessary) to send the hydrant flying immediately. Key is the easiest one to do this with because it doesn't even require a Z-drop to work, and it can even create a combo where the key and hydrant both connect.

Other than being able to DI away from some of them, these combos are generally very difficult to escape, let alone react to. As you'd expect they're difficult to pull off as well, but they are all true combos, which means you cannot do anything other than try to DI away.

As I mentioned I've seen videos like this and stuff that makes me go "wow!" but never against any actual opponents.

As is the case with most people in For Glory with almost every character. People tend to play overly safe and stick solely with bread-and-butters, regardless of who they're using, because they care more about their ratio than actually learning anything.
Pac-Man is all about approach. He's very difficult to keep out, and has a wide array of tools to make openings (hydrant, bell, melon, ship), get in (dash attack, side special, SH airdodge into Nair), and exploit the window he's created (key, Bair, Dair, good old Fsmash). Sitting around the hydrant and spamming keys all day is the absolute WRONG way to play him, I can't emphasize this enough.
Trying out Captain Falcon. Any tips?
Trying out Captain Falcon. Any tips?
his dashgrab has a TON of range use that to your advantage. lots of times out of the dashgrab you'll see people go straight to using up airs, but his neutral air is great. also learn to shorthop consistently as that will help a lot as bair & nair are great, quick aerials. don't go for the knee unless you're certain you'll get it otherwise there's a huge amount of landing lag.
his utilt spikes and is fantastic for edgeguarding. dtilt is also fantastic. it hits low, but has a lot of range, tripping opponent's and sending them far away.
that's all i can really think of off the top of my head been a bit since i played Sm4sh
Captain Falcon is probably the most intuitive character I can think of.
Honestly just playing as him is the best thing you can do; spent some time smacking the CPU around in Training to get a feel for his physics, and you're mostly set.
Jeez, what's with For Glory lately?
First game, a megaman who guarded a corner and spammed leaf shield trying that gimp trick
Second game, a link that won't stop spamming projectiles.
I can't find a good match anywhere.
Oh boy, a gordo and inhale spamming DDD trying to gimp me too. How original.
Why must a good Link be the bane of my existence?
can we expect our usual bi-monthly Nintendo Direct soon, complete with Mewtwo info?
I had completely forgotten about Mewtwo.
Anyone here think he'll be out some time this month? Or is that wishful thinking?
Finally I met someone good on For Glory
Ironically it's another Falcon and these mirror matches are the most fun I've had since the tournament I won
Am I horrible for unironically thinking Little Mac mirrors are really fun?

Well, kinda.

i want to try fighting a falcon player. you should fight me sometime thxxxxx postal101
And actually, Little Mac versus Captain Falcon is one of my favorite matchups that doesn't involve at least one of my mains.
Even though they're on drastically different tiers, it always feels like a fair fight somehow, especially if customs are enabled.

I was going to make a "here comes flying man" joke when I read that but hey I didn't have to.
