I feel bad for not being able to use Captain Falcon's grabs properly. That little delay in pressing it and him actually grabbing results in my grab missing 9/10 times.
[QUOTE=Mikemaximum;47285524]Nah, it's just like Punch-Out!! Well, kinda.[/QUOTE] Since Mac doesn't really have any approach tools other than dash attack and side-B, it becomes an intricate dance between the two Mac players, as a whiffed attack gets punished pretty harshly. So the game does play a bit like Punch Out in the sense that you're generally going to be waiting to see your opponent create an opening that you can exploit. But since both players are looking for the same kind of opening and have the same tools to get in with, that would create a pretty boring fight if both just had a staring contest. So the game becomes about baiting your opponent into opening themselves up by getting close to them and faking them out, and then punishing their missed reads. So if anything, it's more like speedrunning Punch Out, as the opponent AI can be manipulated by how many punches you've thrown, punches that you whiff, and whatever attacks they connect with.

But no, it's nothing like speedrunning. That's completely rote-learning, nothing to do with skill or mindgames or anything, it's just about learning which frames do what and how to combine them perfectly for the best time. Zallard played it blindfolded at AGDQ, that's really how much it's about memorization. There are some random elements, like when King Hippo will open his mouth and how long Mike Tyson/Mr. Dream will take to throw his uppercuts (this one's a real killer) but it's mostly just learning and experimentation. There's really nothing comparable to that in Smash except the Master Core battles. [QUOTE=Everything;47286022]Except actually fun[/QUOTE] Yeah actually. If say, you became incredibly slow and readable instead of having a K.O. Punch it'd be a more apt comparison.

What's the consensus on Falco in this game? I heard he's been gimped but I played against a really good one in For Glory and I just can't really tell if he's good or not.

It's just that he used to be much more than that.
He's even more of an everyman character than he used to be. On the upside though, he's easier to learn than ever, so I can actually recommend him as a starter now.

Was surprised to see that my soundtrack CD arrived, I didn't know the European CDs were being shipped already. [editline]9th March 2015[/editline] Also I thought you guys said the track names were in Japanese but when I listened to them they were all in English. [editline]9th March 2015[/editline] Oops, seems that was just how my default media player showed it, because one CD is still in Japanese when viewed in Windows Media Player
My soundtrack collection also just arrived! For a moment I was in shock, to see that the songs are not named, but thank god it used the internet connection to add them. edit: The awesome Mega Man medley song is NOT in this soundtrack? What the hell.
Looking at the soundtrack CD designs made me realise that Smash U didn't have a big Smash Bros logo on it's disc. Bummer because the CDs and the Brawl disc look pretty slick because of it.

So after weeks of not playing online because everyone was either terrible, god tier or immensely laggy I hop into a game to get killed by a terrible lagger. I love this game, but 3DS online, really? [editline]9th March 2015[/editline] Ok, 3 Ike games and one very loud shout of 'YEAH, YOU'RE IN IKE'S WORLD NOW!' and I'm back in love with Smash Bros.

[QUOTE=Skerion;47289149]Is that a sprite from Kid Pix that I see in the top right corner?[/QUOTE] That's the baby face from Mario Paint.

Woo! My Premium Sound Selection came today! The booklet and disks are so well printed.
[QUOTE=Zannabluke;47289219]was pac man's face just too hard to draw for the artist?[/QUOTE] To be fair it's really easy and clear from the front or 1/3 angles, but anything else gets... weird.
[QUOTE=Everything;47289339]To be fair it's really easy and clear from the front or 1/3 angles, but anything else gets... weird.[/QUOTE] Not really. It's basically just a Muppet face.
I KIND OF GOT TO THE FINALS BY DOING NOTHING [T]http://i.imgur.com/hdylNIr.png[/T] are people really that scared of ganon not to play? lmao
So in my quest to learn to play worth a damn as (almost) every character, I'm up to Little Mac, and I have to say... He makes a lot more sense when you play him reactively. Also some of his customs are awesome. Grounding Blow is one of my favorite custom moves of any character so far; it offers a huge amount of utility (returns him to the ground quickly, combos from his downthrow, swats opponents out of the air, snaps him right to the ledge from above or below it, has a HUGE potential for lethal combos on Battlefield, etc, etc) at the cost of making his horizontal recovery even more tripe (which I've found to be negligible, especially if he's given Tornado Uppercut as well to further improve his verticality) [editline]9th March 2015[/editline] Grounding Blow can also function as a reliable aerial with a strong downward launch to it. This leads nicely into his ground game, and can allow Little Mac to fight back if he's being juggled. Remember a while back I was musing on how they could've done Mac better? Well, that move is basically exactly what I was trying to say. It's a tool that serves his strengths, not a crippling weakness; his aerials should've functioned that way rather than just being worthless outright.
The hell is this shit if you bind grab to the bumpers on the Wii U Pro controller (L and R) (which is perfectly reasonable as it mimics the GameCube controller layout), pressing L or R while in the air makes you attack, rather than grab. why. [sp](this kills the tether)[/sp]
Also I live for the day when level 9 AI means "really good at the game" and not "will perfectly shield or spot dodge fucking everything" [editline]9th March 2015[/editline] Also being able to escape your grab after only one pummel while they're at 90% is bullshit.
I'm slowly learning to play Greninja, and I got to say, it is really satisfing. I remember when I started playing Sheik and she just sort of clicked and was super easy to play well with. With Greninja, I get the same sort of effectiveness (if not more in some areas), yet feels actually fun to play.

Yes please
finally someone who just might be able to match the hoo haa [editline]10th March 2015[/editline] "YEE AAH" [editline]10th March 2015[/editline] Honestly looks like they would make a great Kirby/Kingdom Hearts/Treasure-game boss
I dunno, he seems kind of underpowered.
