I tried smash ladder for the first time last night, and it was good fun. It helps fill the time when there aren't any FPers on the group chat. (Seriously tho, it sucks that I haven't played against any of you guys for a while, we need to fight some more.)
Ever just pick up a fighter and do amazing with them? I randomly decided to use dedede, and god damn he's great. I love it when I just do good with a fighter, without training, guides, etc.
If this is to be the case, I'd want him to be usable no matter what in training mode, both as player and AI. Without that, Mewtwo players have a big advantage in the form of other people never learning how to fight him, and never being able to learn outside of PVP. It's only fair everyone gets a chance to understand how he works.
Well nintendo doesn't really seem to understand how to make online games work and what people want so I don't think we can easily deduce what it's going to be like.
No, I think that's a bit of a misconception. They've shown themselves to be VERY good at making online experiences in the past (MK7 is possibly the best online-oriented handheld game ever), but they're also very familiar with the most common failings other developers make in their execution. The reason they don't often have voice chat (and never have it with random people online) is because of just how notorious its use for verbal abuse is on other platforms, for instance. They'd rather not sit at that table, that's just begging for the same sort of infamy. They play it very safe. Safe to their own detriment quite often, but they DO know what people want. They just want to make sure they can deliver it without fucking it up catastrophically, which is frankly worse than not even trying when it comes to this issue; a broken promise versus a promise never made. [editline]t[/editline] I've said it before, and I'll happily reiterate: Nintendo isn't stupid. A company that's been around and been successful as long as they have is most assuredly not stupid, and most of their developers are of the age and grouping that would DEFINITELY know what current gamers want; many of them aren't even 25 yet. It's just a matter of finding a way to deliver that that's both safe and satisfactory, which is a delicate balance, particularly when they're targeting a younger demographic more aggressively than anyone else in the industry. For every few "why haven't they caught up yet?" decisions they make, there's almost always a "why didn't anyone else think of that?" one that happens later.
So I finally manned up and played For Glory. Screw you people, screw your normal human reaction times, and screw your ginormous shield button fingers. [sp]im dying inside[/sp]

I went to it to cope with not having Smash 4 and now I really don't need Smash 4. Ivysaur 4ever

Also Samus and her top notch spacing capabilities.
Robin is amazing, he plays out just like a Fire Emblem game when played right. Opponent closing in fast? Fling a quick thunder at him and follow up with a dash attack. Opponent on defensive? Nosferatu and recover health. Finish off an offstage opponent? THORON! Shame about his awful melee reach, though. Well, if you keep opponents away, you don't need reach; you need accuracy.
I hate Dedede in Brawl, he doesn't have good moves
I got yelled at for grabbing too much as Captain Falcon by one of my friends up to the point where he suicided. Sorry if pretty much every dthrow has aerial followups which couples greatly with captain falcon and the fact you were playing as a very aggressive sheik.
Maybe he should try jumping and dodging instead of complaining. If he wants to complain about grabbing, he could at least complain about inescapable chaingrabs.
Even still, you really should mix things up. If Dthrow to Fair is all you're doing, I wouldn't want to fight you either. infinite repetition isn't fun to play against, even if you're winning.
Even still, you really should mix things up. If Dthrow to Fair is all you're doing, I wouldn't want to fight you either.
A predictable followup is easy to DI away from, though. Mixing things up keeps them on their toes, his friend just seems to not have any toes in the first place.
I mix things up the whole time, but if he keeps shielding when he comes TOO close after missing a dash attack or something else I use a grab of course, so he complains that I use the grab a third time after he spammed his needles for the god knows how many time.
Tell him that if he doesn't want to get grabbed, he shouldn't be shielding that close to grabbing range. Shields only block attacks, grabs ignore shields. This is true in pretty much every fighting game that has grabs. Strategy to avoid grabs is always the same: fucking move.
Does the guy even know what DI is? If he's having so much trouble, why not stop beating his ass for a sec and try to tell him what he can do to answer. It's not condescending, it's not coddling, it's helping him improve, and that'll benefit the both of you long term.
I'm trying to tell him how he could improve but whenever I try to do that he just responds with "I didn't need to do that in brawl"
"There are more options than a multiple-choice test, that means it's bad" He can go play Brawl with the whole 12 people worldwide who still play it. Too bad Brawl netplay is balls and regardless of that, Nintendo shut that service down months ago. Or he can grow up and learn how to be receptive of criticism and advice.
Tell him, and I quote, "It's a miracle you ever managed to go anywhere in Brawl, because you needed these things back then too. If you don't learn it now, you'll never improve."
G&W is beautiful in the fact you can D-Throw into anything. [editline]24th March 2015[/editline] D-Throw into N-Air makes me excited in a way no other member of this human race can. [editline]24th March 2015[/editline] D-Throw into a 9 makes me glad to be alive.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/bghAyyQ.png[/t] I want a hoxton amiibo.
Most G&W players I run into online do very little but spam chair, bacon, turtle and key. I think I've only ever played against one who grabbed. It's weird, G&W mains are either terrible or amazing. If there's a middle ground it's VERY small, because I've never seen it.
So, are there any other serious Jigglypuff users on here besides myself? I wouldn't mind having a few tips on how to mix up my playstyle.
G&W does have a lot of utility that can be exploited, but it does come with some heavy prices.

Teamwork. Those team tactics are great though. I've heard of a Robin/Charizard strategy which involves Charizard grabbing and throwing Robin fastball special-style to land far offstage Levin kills or Elwind spikes. How do people come up with this shit?
Robin is amazing, he plays out just like a Fire Emblem game when played right. Opponent closing in fast? Fling a quick thunder at him and follow up with a dash attack. Bonus points if you grab the dropped Levin Sword and hit them with it.
I don't think he does not know anything else than shield, attack and jump. He doesn't put much thought behind his playstyle either, it's just smashes, no tilts, does not consider how some characters play against certain others.. I'm trying to tell him how he could improve but whenever I try to do that he just responds with "I didn't need to do that in brawl"
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he at least understands how to do dash attacks. So that would give him these attacks at his disposal: Jab (+jab chain)Dash attackForward SmashDown SmashUp SmashNeutral specialSide specialUp specialDown specialNeutral airForward airBackward airUp airDown airGetup attack He has 15 attacks at his disposal. Let's compare that number to how many attacks a character actually has. Jab (+jab chain)Forward Strong (tilt compatible)Down StrongUp StrongDash attackForward Smash (tilt compatible)Down SmashUp SmashNeutral specialSide specialUp specialDown specialNeutral airForward airBackward airUp airDown airGrab pummelForward throwBackward throwDown throwUp throwGetup attack 23 different attacks, and that's not even considering the fact that some specials offer even more variety. Not to mention that he probably has no idea that you have 4 options to recover at the ledge other than mashing A, that you can roll to dodge when your character has fallen on the ground, that you can break your fall by dodging at the right time before hitting a surface, or that you can influence the trajectory of your character when they get launched. He's actively ignoring well over 33% of the gameplay that a character's moveset can even offer in flexibility in exchange for being a predictable and repetitious opponent. Icing on top of it is that every Smash has a stale moves mechanic hidden within, so the more he spams his few moves, the less effective they'll be. It's only really noticeable in Smash 4, but even Smash 64 keeps track of when you're spamming an attack and does a little to punish you. He's not experiencing the game at even remotely close to its extent, he's just passing through and assuming he knows the ins and outs of it because it can be played as a party game.
sounds like a dummy
I am doomed to play with people like these. They don't even take the time to learn the mechanics of the game and then blame it for being way too confusing for them. Even younger kids knows how to play better than them.
I think it can come from the annoyance of not doing too well at what seems like a fairly simple task (beating the shit out of Nintendo characters). I showed my friend Peggle once and he claimed the gameplay was entirely luck-based.
