There was some disagreement between Iwata and Kojima. Basically Iwata wanted Snake to be Nintendo exclusive. Kojima was like fuck that shit. Both sides got butthurt. No Snake on Nintendo since Brawl.
sauce?
Also I doubt Bayo could ever get in because you can't just put a character who was made for an M rated game into a E 10+ game. She's be so butchered there wouldn't be much of a point. Muh merge.
sauce?
Ah got my facts wrong, unless I'm telling stuff I heard somewhere else. "I'm not working on that game, but I don't think it's likely [that Snake will return]. If Mr. Sakurai is watching this, hopefully we see Snake." Still wouldn't get my hopes up too much
And again, the problem now is that Konami booted Kojima out and swept up the Metal Gear franchise in the process. Snake got in Brawl because Sakurai and Kojima were able to directly communicate and settle the details without the rest of Konami getting involved and muddling it (Kojima used his executive position in the company to bar all irrelevant staff from the project; he wanted to make sure he wouldn't be held back or pressured to request more in return) That... Isn't possible anymore. Nintendo would have to negotiate with the entirety of the company's IP and production wing now, which could mean excessive demands or outright refusal of the request. It would be a monumental headache even on a good day.
I thought Kojima was the one that wanted to leave though.
I thought Kojima was the one that wanted to leave though.
This is what Konami has officially stated, but Kojima has been a bit more vague (probably bound by some sort of agreement still, and can't outright say "I was fired" until he stops working on Phantom Pain and leaves the company's payroll)
I thought Kojima was the one that wanted to leave though.
I'm pretty sure he wanted to leave eventually, but not only is he a "temporary" employee now, he apparently can't talk to the public anymore without Konami's consent (which is why his twitter's gone dark). Combine this with removing his name from several of his projects, and you've got a pretty bad problem. But anyway, on topic- can't wait for Mewtwo and Lucas in the future, though now I have to farm for custom moves again. Ah well, it's a fine price to pay.
Whatever the case may be, I think it's for the best. It kind of sucks though since it seems like Kojima was finally going to work on more games besides MGS.
I requested Classic Sonic as an alt model for Sonic. I'd love to see K. Rool and Conker.
I would love to see Classic Sonic in Smash, because the style of the series changed he could even be a different character and no necessarily a clone.
The current rumor surrounding it all is that he was starting to cost too much, and they already had a couple successors lined up to helm Metal Gear and the upcoming Silent Hills anyway. If that's really true, it's kind of a shame it came down to saving money, rather than the guy leaving on his own terms or being terminated for a more acceptable reason.
the unrealistic ones like Wolf and Ice Climbers,
Kinda late but how is Wolf unrealistic at all? If anything he has the best chance out of any of the possible characters. They already have his moveset, so no brainstorming is needed. His animations are also already established, so even if they can't import anything they at least have a reference. Finally, there's a brand new Star Fox game coming out this year. Remember when Sakurai said that if a character is relevant they have a better shot? Well guess who's going to be relevant in ~8 months? I'm praying for Snake (the dream is pretty much dead if Kojima's out the door), but I'm thinking Wolf's gonna come back. If anyone doesn't want him back, what's the matter? Scared?
How can you possibly sit there and say Wolf is unrealistic when Lucas is confirmed to be back. If anything, I would imagine Wolf is the next character to come back, if not alongside a DLC Newcomer.
I don't wanna acknowledge Wolf as a realistic option, because I don't have enough nostalgia to care about a character who didn't add anything a custom moveset couldn't. If he's bundled with a new character, that's fine. But I still don't think we need a third Star Fox character when we already have Falco.
a character who didn't add anything a custom moveset couldn't.
What is any clone?
What is any clone?
The thing with Wolf, though, is that he's another clone of the exact same character. Two clones for one character (Falco and Wolf for Fox). I'm fine with Falco. Clones don't bother me. What DOES bother me is that people are asking for another clone of the same character instead of branching off. If they bring back Wolf, he needs to be a whole different moveset instead of just heavier and tilted variants.
I'd like to see Wolf make a return, he's a badass in general imo. Could you imagine wolf's howl with a squeaky voice actor?
The thing with Wolf, though, is that he's another clone of the exact same character. Two clones for one character (Falco and Wolf for Fox). I'm fine with Falco. the thing about wolf is he's not a clone except for his specials which have such totally different properties they may as well be their own attacks there are 4 attacks on his moveset that are similar. every other attack, his smashes, tilts, jabs, aerials, throws, you fucking NAME it are different. even without those, his properties are totally different weight, speed and jump heightwise.
Completely wrong. I hate it when people make this mistake, and it seems people do it very often.
His moves are heavier, slower, and have different arcs. His B moves are based on exactly the same principle as Falco and Fox and are just variants. I don't care how much stronger they are or whether they are colored differently. He is still a clone character in the fact that he adds little to nothing that adding custom moves or equipment to Fox/Falco.
I don't wanna acknowledge Wolf as a realistic option, because I don't have enough nostalgia to care about a character who didn't add anything a custom moveset couldn't.
With that logic why bring Lucas back? Literally one of his Brawl specials is a custom move for Ness. Since Falco, in this game, is even more different than Fox than he was from Brawl, there's less to compare Wolf to. Wolf had similar specials but his actual basic attacks all functioned incredibly differently, and they could potentially increase that difference further when they add him to this game. I don't really understand why people have to be so close-minded about these things. I'm not even really a Star Fox fan, I played 64 back in the day and it was cool and all but I haven't been dying for a new game or played any of the other games. Same with Lucas, never played Earthbound/Mother in my life. But I'm excited, because more fighters is always nice and it's great for the people who are fans of those franchises. Not acknowledging a character because "you hold no nostalgia" is just being close-minded.
Voted Quote, even though there's no way.
His moves are heavier, slower, and have different arcs. His B moves are based on exactly the same principle and are just variants. This is fact.
But unlike Falco, most of Wolf's moves have much different stats than Fox. From the Wiki: Fox & Wolf The only moves that are almost identical are their Final Smashes and Down Special moves. Side and Up specials are similar in function, but differ in damage, hitboxes, etc. Blasters are also different, as Wolf's has a direct attack hitbox that actually has knockback with potential to KO. Almost all of Wolf's standard attacks are different from Fox's.

He's in the same boat as Lucas- heavily different specials and a completely different standard moveset. Not to mention different physics- he's the heaviest of all the Starfox characters. We have two clones of Mario, with each one being vastly different from him. So... where's the argument?

His cape is a cape just the same. His Up + B is a solid punch instead of a repeated hit, and he has tornado back instead of FLUDD. Lucas didn't need to come back. Freeze froze instead of exploding, his PK fire went at a different angle, his thunder was a multihit, and his absorb had different properties. This is not a necessary character. He is not different enough to warrant a comeback other than the fact that people liked him in Brawl. Making a character heavier, giving slightly different attack animations, and changing the properties on his specials does not make him vastly different. I am fine with them coming back, cause a bigger Smash roster is always nice, but calling them vastly different is just lying to yourself.
in which mr zombie demonstrates that he doesn't use A button moves and decides they aren't a factor
Bayonetta is the best and most realistic choice, and you all know it.

Doc's cape doesn't stall him while he's in midair. Doc's pills can't be absorbed. Doc's f-air doesn't have a meteor sweetspot- it launches them at a more oblique angle instead. Doc is more damage-focused, as some of his moves deal more damage and knockback. Doc is also slower, with him having lower jump height and air speed.
in which mr zombie demonstrates that he doesn't use A button moves and decides they aren't a factor
Sorry, I didn't know that taking a character from the exact same series as two current characters, with a model style very similar to the other two, with A attacks that add a hit or spike instead of spinning, with B moves that go diagonal or slower, with a Final smash that's exactly the same made them vastly unique. We don't need a third character with an extremely similar playstyle. If you brought in Krystal, but made her faster than Fox, changed the properties of Fox's moves for her, and added some new animations, this does not mean she needs to be included.
