I don't get the hype behind Shovel Knight.
The game is a multiplat now. Is it because it's a good indie game?
Quote and Shantae would be better fits, they had some sort of exclusivity on Nintendo consoles and they've been here for longer.
Shovel Knight makes as much sense as Commander Video.
Have you even played it?
Think he appeared in the King of Swing games, and Barrel Blast. think the thing he had going for him is his status as a static villain in all 3 Country games and 64. he's been a Pirate, King, Mad Scientist and some sort of...underwater sea captain?
At least supplementary canon mentions him to actually be faster and stronger than even DK. just that he just elects for either indirect means like shooting blunderbusses or just stamping about. the Japanese representation frequently thinks K Roolenstein, King K Rool are seperate characters despite just being personas. Retro probably avoids using K Rool now just because of the legacy Rare built up with him, even after DK64.
I've never gotten to play a game that featured King K. Rool. I know he's an old Donkey Kong main boss, but what exactly does he do? Isn't there an important reason he hasn't appeared in a game in a long time?
I think a better question would be what doesn't King K Rool do. He commands an army of kremlings, he dresses up as a pirate and wields a blunderbuss, he dresses up as a mad scientist and flies with a propeller, he can shape himself into a ball, can throw his crown, can box, can go invisible, can belly flop, and more.
He's done so many different things in every game he's starred in, it would be a piece of cake to give him a moveset.
I want Shanoa from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. I literally couldn't care about any other character, she would be the only one I would play if added.
Call me crazy but I would prefer Shanoa, Soma, or Alucard over a belmont for a castlevania rep.
Seems crazy, but these characters use a vast amount of different weapons that allow for infinite moveset possibilities, and various magic on top of that.
Also Shanoa and Soma both create their weapons from magic, so they wouldn't even have to hold them and could use any number of them at once.
The character i think would make most sense is probably Simon Belmont. But i think the license went to sony or something for Castlevania? I'm not quite sure. I voted Waluigi. It makes sense to add him, even though he's not the character i want the most

She's already in a side scroller, she has her interchangeable glyphs that works with the move swapping, it gives Castlevania representation, Order of Ecclesia saw a lot of praise from critics and fans, her art style fits those like Robin and Lucina.
What are people hoping for with Waluigi? He has yet to appear in any main series game at all. He only exists so Wario would have a teammate in sports games.
What would he do? Hit people with a tennis rachet? Drive a kart around? Pay a Boo 50 coins to steal your star? We'd be just as likely to get Birdo as a fighter (actually probbaly better, since Birdo has established abilities from appearing as enemy bosses). Or even Toad, who now has a main player character role in at least 3 games.

If Ninty is looking for badass female characters, look no further honestly.
No important reason. Before anyone starts saying things his likeness isn't owned by Rare or anything like that. The reason Retro Studios didn't use the Kremlings and K.Rool was because they wanted to do their own thing with DKCR instead of riding the coattails of Rare's villains.
The Kremlings appearing as Smash Run enemies also disproves this, I don't know why I never realized that before.

Shovel Knight may be suffering from the recency affect that makes undeserving characters get a lot of popularity (see: Wonder Red) but for me he not only represents the modern prevalence of indie games, but he also perfectly emulates classic Nintendo games and is very clearly inspired by it better than any other game to knowledge. It's sort of a pastiche bridge between then and now
also shovel knight is a fucking awesome game and his character would do excellently in smash
Less banned and more "it would be unfair for players to not know anything about playing him or his changes." They're at least accepting Mewtwo and the balance patch that comes with him.
Also, on a note to a similar conversation, there was a poll done for japanese smashboards about possible new characters (counting up how many times the name appeared), and this is what ended up.

If you can't see, Lucas was at the top of the mentions, right after Wolf. Considering there's a 4 month gap between E3 and the announcement of the results (10/3/15), we could see Wolf make his return at E3 (the month of Lucas) for August, then two months later announce the winners of the ballot.
I didn't expect Klonoa to show up in this. My hopeless dream isn't as dead as I thought...
Hey everyone. Today is my birthday. Please vote for Jeff from Earthbound in honour of me.
I'm in deep trouble, and they're gonna cut off my legs if you don't vote for Travis Touchdown.

I'm surprised to see Ridley among the top 10 most wanted, especially considering his ultimate fate.
But yeah, this poll may have a slight bearing on Wolf's chances, though I'd remain cautious about his inclusion.

To be honest, as much as I love Klonoa, I'd be overjoyed if there was simply a trophy of him in game.
I'd like him as a fighter as much as the next guy, but even with Namco co-deving smash, I still kinda doubt enough people would clamor for him to be in for them to do so.
(Side note; Tharja being on that list is making me feel many things, mostly how much I would have loved Morgan as a robin pallet ala olimar/alph)
Wonder Red isn't on there... but fucking Crash Bandicoot is.

Well we'll just have to try harder, now won't we?

The thing is that the entirety of the Bit.Trip series was among the best-selling WiiWare titles available. That's a bit different nowadays now that Nintendo has been more-apt to sell things on eShop and is much more workable with third parties and indie developers alike. In a way, CommanderVideo is one of those early success stories for third-party downloadable games sold on Nintendo's platform.
In a similar vain, Cave Story blew the lid for a lot of people to look at the indie scene. The game is charming and challenging, but more importantly it showed what can be brought to the table by people other than AAA and AA companies.

Quote could definitely work in Smash too.
B to cycle through weapons (like Shulk), ^/v/>-B to use the chosen weapon in that direction. Do damage to enemies to knock upgrade chips out of them which power up your current weapon, losing chips if you get hurt. Floaty jumps and the Booster doublejump compensate for a lack of a true recovery, but you're also able to use an upgraded Machine Gun to propel yourself upward, just like in the game.
Basically, make playing him feel like playing Cave Story.

Final Smash is Quote and Curly's Iron Bond.

I can imagine the visual mess that would be an 8-way Quote coin battle already.
Aren't 8P Duck Hunt bouts already that bad WITHOUT coins?
Either way, they'd be color coded to the player (colored outline) and would heavily gravitate towards them, disappearing instead of bouncing around when lost.

I don't know if I should try to make the other ones.
why waluigi
theres no rep for Mario spinoffs, even though people claim galaxy deserves an entire character to rep 2 games. he's a blank slate whose characteristics include being a cheating lanky fuck who does anything to win. imagine a character based around random chanc, snatching peoples items or using them against themselves with a well timed racket swing, with lots of weird effects and bullshit.
it could easily work, as could any character if samurai could be bothered to work on em
Also, it would be possible for current Assists to be playable, like Takamaru almost was.
They could disable that specific Assist when the playable counterpart is in the fight.
Takamaru, Waluigi and Ashley could be possibilities.
i just did the simple thing and voted K.Rool i mean Waluigi doesn't seem likely as he is already an assist trophy so i just thought realistically
I voted for the one who I wanted the most. Damn the odds I will get to play Shanoa in Smash some day.
I'm so glad my friends will all jump on Mewtwo and I will slide by to main Lucas alongside Zelda and Toon Link :3
I want more magey types. I really like the way Isaac looks but I've never played Golden Sun.

oh don't get me wrong i do want K.Rool I'm just saying he meets the criteria to be possible

Isn't that basically what Villager's all about
