It's really interesting how my mains and whatnot change over time.
Like, I'm still using Dedede and Little Mac, but now I've started playing Rosalina and Mario, two characters I kinda wrote off from the start, and I'm finding that they're goddamn awesome.
A friend of mine has an insane Samus (normally I can only beat it with Dedede, since that's my best character). Beat him as Rosa and Mario, each time it came down to the last stock.
On a side note, I've been taking a look at these character primers that /vg/ wrote up.
Some pretty useful stuff in there, each one is a good quick read if you want to get some really helpful tips on a character you're totally unfamiliar with: http://pastebin.com/5ryn1CkP
Oh man, today we had a pizza party at our college, and the people hosting it had leftovers so they gave me and a friend a box with a whole large cheese pizza in it while we were smashing. Just for the hell of it we decide that for each win we get, we win a slice of pizza. I kinda felt bad for him, because I got 5 slices out of that and while I'm not one to throw a competitive match, I'm also not one for denying a fellow man pizza. I probably would've won more had I decided not to experiment with different strategies and characters midway.
After that though, shit got silly as hell as we busted out the custom equipment. I have a loadout with just speed that I like to call SonIke, which means that while I have to work a little harder to KO someone (though not much since Ike's still a powerhouse), I can now jump the entire distance of an omega stage. Basically, if I had a jump left, I could recover.
Just played against the most infuriating guy.
We'd play a good match, trade blows back and forth.
Usually we'd both still be around past 120%, despite the fact that I was Wii Fit Trainer.
But then the timer reaches around 30 seconds left and he starts to run away.
Just lames it the fuck out until we go to Sudden Death.
I seriously can't stand people who do this. It's such a childlike "NNNO, NO, SEE, YOU DIDN'T WIN, I'M BETTER, YOU LOSE" attitude. Yes, it's technically a tactic, but it's fucking stupid. It's like kicking a dude in the balls during a boxing match; like, yeah, good job, he's not getting up, but it's not like you beat him through any modicum of skill.
Suffice to say I gave the fella a little bit of his own medicine; I went Duck Hunt Dog, used nothing but projectiles and my F-Smash. We go to Sudden Death (after he ran away for literally the last 45 seconds of the match) and I toss a can right in his face.
Immediate disconnect, felt good.
But on a serious note, they really should patch Sudden Death. If I've got 50% on my first stock and my opponent has 80% on their second, there's no reason it should be going to Sudden Death. At the time the timer runs out, whomever has the most points should win. If there's any ties for first, THEN go to Sudden Death. But invalidating the events of an entire match and bringing it down to "who has the faster move" is just idiotic.
that isn't how it works in tourneys, if you time out, whoever has the most stocks wins, and if you have the same stocks whoever has the lowest percentage wins. i think if you have the same percentage you do a 1 stock rematch or something, not sure exactly.
so don't feel bad about that lol, it's actually not a legitimate tactic at all and most of the competitive community thinks sudden death is a really unbalanced way to settle timeouts. if he's relying on that to win in FG he won't go anywhere.

Probably the biggest bit of bullshit is that sudden death will randomly rain bombs down on you.
It's a very intense thing when 2 players are able to survive each other's attacks at 300% already, adding random deathspawns just makes that already-punishing time just overkill. You have to play extremely cautiously because a single mistake means losing.
The funniest part about fighting people who lame the timer out while I'm playing Charizard, is just how few of them can react in time to not get immediately annihilated by flare blitz in sudden death.
I can't count the number of times a Robin, Samus, Lucario or Pacman will start out charging their projectile, and once flare blitz activates they roll AWAY out of reflex, causing them to get hit anyway.
Haven't met any time scammers yet, never had a match come close to the time limit. Is it common or something?
CPUs do some really weird shit sometimes.

It's because they're programmed to try to meteor you and I'm guessing diddy just sucks at it
so pikachu is actually fun
going insanely deep to gimp your opponents and then making it back just fine with your Up-B (which i must add is one of my favorite moves, hard to master but incredibly versatile) is so fun.
[editline]awf[/editline]
and winning with a character that's really cute is also great (same reason i love playing jigglypuff)

So i just played Melee again for the first time in like 8-9 years and i think I've gained a massive amount of respect for the competitive community, Like before today i understood that it takes a lot of practice to be as good as some of those top players but it had been so long since i played the game i had actually forgotten how it felt to play it, I mean i remember it being a great game and all but i never remembered it feeling THAT good to play even though i'm terrible at it it was some of the most fun i've had playing a fighting game in a long time.
I just had my first sanic vs sanic match
The balls touched
[editline]31st January 2015[/editline]
and also had annoying voices the entire time

I miss "you're too slow" far more than I should.
So can somebody explain to me the criteria for the L/grab button deciding that it wants to take up a career as a A button and doing standard air attacks instead of using my assorted grappling hooks?
Because I'm getting really tired of going to use a hookshot and plummeting to my death instead and then being unable to replicate the circumstances that caused it to avoid it.

I love hearing 'Super Sonic Style' way more than I should.

this sounds cool (Hotline_Miyummy)
That Mario playing with his cape while Jiggly was asleep though.
Damn this tournament has been entertaining so far, a lot of different characters that aren't the typical 4.
