Dangit, he lag throws off everything I do in online. Nothing I usually do will work and aerials are no-go when my timing is anywhere between 0.2-0.5 seconds off. Such a meager time frame is enough to fuck up a lot of people's attempts at decent gameplay, it sucks.
Is playing with friends any different?

There is one place I can see this becoming absurdly powerful: 2v2

I bet for the final smash, it transforms into Mashed Potato Samurai.
Rosalina is SO MUCH more floaty than Jiggly. Can't do proper shorthops with her.
Really wish you could pick characters to never play against
I've never had an enjoyable match with a ness
It's ALWAYS spam grabs and PK Fire

When I find annoying characters I always counterpick them until they give up and change to someone else.
My rule of thumb: If you stay the same character three matches straight, BYE.

Nothing personal, I just want variety, and if I'm not getting it from you, I'll get it somewhere else.

I don't mind if someone keeps playing the same character because it's hilarious to keep beating them when I'm constantly switching characters every round. Especially when my own joke picks work out in my favor (like Donkey Kong)

we shouldn't play together then, I tend to keep a character until I win at least once with it :v:
More players need to be less afraid to diversify their gameplay, rather than just permanently glue themselves to the one thing they know.
It's how I started playing as many characters as I do now. Fox, Ganondorf, Ike, Marth, Megaman, Charizard, Pit, Bowser Jr, Duck Hunt...

I dunno, sometimes I find someone who is really fun to play against, and we pick the same characters for a few rounds until someone disconnects.
Idk, sometimes I stay the same character because I want to practice that character.
I once played as just Ganondorf for an entire week in Brawl online.
Good times.

Hey I didn't say that's a bad thing. All I said is that I'd rather not participate in it.
I already get enough of that from a friend of mine refusing to play anything but Yoshi every time I invite him over. You can imagine how dull that gets.
I've always thought that the whole sticking to 1 character thing is for people new to the game.
When I was new to Brawl, I only played Ike and nothing else. But then I got bored and played everyone else.

In a fighting game, it's good to know other characters so you can understand the timing and movement associated with techniques. It'll better teach you how to exploit those when facing against them.
aMSa wrecked with Yoshi much more easily than normal because no one expected a Yoshi to be wrecking their shit, they were used to the cookie-cutters of top-tier characters. That's not to say aMSa wasn't amazing, he just had an additional advantage of having all of his opponents unprepared for his shenanigans.

To be honest that accounts for any competitive game be it FPS or Mobas and whatnot not just fighting ones.

It's more exaggerated in fighting games because there's no hidden information or differing perspectives as it is in an RTS, MOBA, or FPS. Everything on the screen is the exact same thing that your opponent sees, so the only hidden information is what's going on in your head.

I always like to pick one character above all else in fighting games though.
Though I do have some characters I change between, Yoshi is my main.
