I noticed that some guy is using my stupid Dr. Dedede edit as a profile pic on Smashboards. Feels good to be a famous artist amirite?

man. grinding for custom parts is a chore. half the time I get shit for characters I never use. why isn't there a higher chance to get moves/equipment for the character you are actually using. I got a 5 custom part reward on a match and every one of them was a fucking sonic move, some were repeats I have literally never touched sonic except to make a super speedy variation for kicks in custom mode
[t]http://i.imgur.com/hZN37ku.jpg[/t]
Trying to figure out who vanishes. Meta Knight?
Trying to figure out who vanishes. Meta Knight?
Might be taken from before they appeared on-screen? Several characters jump in or teleport.
Might be taken from before they appeared on-screen? Several characters jump in or teleport.
yeah but not before the name/runner up UI
As a aside playing as a melee samus (uh, not in melee I mean) is super fun. She has a surprising amount of tools to hit people with so when people just expect missile or charge beam spam they get opened up pretty easy. Blast the ground, up air, up air, up b will never stop being satisfying.

The unlocks are weighted to favor the character series that you're fighting against. So if you see a mushroom icon on a path, you're more likely to find custom parts for Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Bowser Jr., and Dr. Mario than you are for the rest of the cast. Which is a bit silly but has sped up this process a bit. I know which paths to avoid, as I have collected all custom moves for a few characters that are the sole representatives of their respective series.
Yeah I guess that makes sense. I did get them after beating sonic

Speaking of cutom equipment, I'm STILL trying to get some of the nerf effects (some aren't even really nerfs, like Anchor Jump, which is just fastfalling) on badges. Why isn't it all just badges? I'm sick of getting effects for characters I don't play. Why can't I just craft them to get ones I WILL use?
i want to try zelda 1212 but i don't have a way to play it right now getting into smash without owning a wiiu/3ds/wii/gc really gives you an ache to play
Puff's customs fucking SUCK
Puff's customs fucking SUCK
well duh her specials are perfect there is no equal
Puff's customs fucking SUCK
Except they have a super easy Rest combo using just a grabthrow and the jumping rest alt. KOs at like 60% and all you need to do is land the grab. [editline]24th February 2015[/editline] Also, horizontal pound is great for pushing characters with primarily vertical recoveries further out while offstage. Has a bigger hitbox than your aerials too, so it's more likely to hit.
Except they have a super easy Rest combo using just a grabthrow and the jumping rest alt.
I'm terrible at doing any kinda combo, so I prefer punishing something with good old Rest.

Seeing as me and Y'all couldn't netplay because 800ms ping doesn't really work too well, is anybody from the UK and wants to give it a shot? 20XX hack pack Melee or PM 3.5
I'm terrible at doing any kinda combo, so I prefer punishing something with good old Rest.
You literally up throw and then rest right away. That's it.
I feel that my plan to play Donkey Kong and alternate between the names NOSTYLE and NOGRACE each match fell somewhat flat when I got only Japanese players all day.
Seeing as me and Y'all couldn't netplay because 800ms ping doesn't really work too well, is anybody from the UK and wants to give it a shot? 20XX hack pack Melee or PM 3.5
i'm on the east coast of the US if you want to give PM a shot at some point today? won't be able to for a few hours but sometime today i'll be good (i'm still p. bad though)
We get it, you don't like advanced techniques because you're too lazy to learn the game.
Call it that if you want, because I shouldn't need to know how to press a series buttons within a span of few seconds, over predicting the opponent better, in a game like Smash. I should need to pick a character, start a match, whale on an opponent, watch out for his attacks and KO him. Not make use of what is insistently called "tactics" to catch an opponent off guard and get a practically guaranteed KO thanks to the near inescapable hitstun that massively favors comobs of swift and aerially strong characters a.k.a the current meta. High pace can be good, but not for Smash. Not without legitimate implementation, like quick stepping is in some fighting games. Speedrunning is fundamentally different in the way that usually only one player plays against what the game throws at him, often using the most efficient, even if sometimes glitchy tricks possible, to gain the most optimal result. In multiplayer, these "techniques" are giving yourself a near-insurmountable edge over another if they are not knowledgeable themselves. I like more even matches than what Melee can offer. Comically, all it took to shatter the precious Melee meta in the future installments was removal of directional dodging, lessening hitstun, buffing and nerfing characters and increase in characters, among others. Well, Project M lets the fans of the game make themselves an unofficial sequel if they think they know what Smash should be like. Melee is allowed to be competitive, Like PM. Smash as series should not be. That's the point I'm making.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/hZN37ku.jpg[/t]
So that's what Ike's current mercenary group looks like.
I shouldn't need to know how to press a series buttons within a span of few seconds, over predicting the opponent better, in a game like Smash.
Yeah but you always need to predict the oppenent better. If they can hit the inputs faster than you, it doesn't matter. You need to know how to do both.
I should need to pick a character, start a match, whale on an opponent, watch out for his attacks and KO him.
You do this in any smash game on any skill level. This is how you win.
Not make use of what is insistently called "tactics"
Mocking what the best players does not make you better, tactics is a very simple word that basically means do what you need to do to gain an advantage and win.
to catch an opponent off guard
Is what you're supposed to do
and get a practically guaranteed KO thanks to the near inescapable hitstun that massively favors comobs of swift and aerially strong characters a.k.a the current meta.
Favoring combos is good thing, allows more variety and counters to just hit and run. Also, current meta implies things could always swing in favor of other characters as new tactics evolve. Also, if you got stuck in the combo i nthe first place at a % that would kill you, you're doing something called losing. They are better than you. If you catch them in a combo at a % that will kill them, you are better, and winning. There is no helplessness, you died due to lack of skill
High pace can be good, but not for Smash. Not without legitimate implementation, like quick stepping is in some fighting games.
Again, this is what you want the game to be. The quick pace does nothing to make the game un-fun for all groups of players.
In multiplayer, these "techniques" are giving yourself a near-insurmountable edge over another if they are not knowledgeable themselves. I like more even matches than what Melee can offer.
As is the case with ANYTHING I'd like to see you beat the top table-tennis player in the world. Or any pro of anything. Practice makes perfect.
Melee is allowed to be competitive, Like PM. Smash as series should not be. That's the point I'm making.
As I said before, anything can be competitive. You can't stop it. There are Smash 4 players and even Brawl players that will completely destroy you. Really I don't get it, if you don't like the comp scene don't play with randos online and just play with friends of similar skill levels, or even friends who are better. They will teach you a lot. If you don't WANT to get better, just play to have fun with people of similar skill levels. Losing does not equal an un-fun game.
As I said before, anything can be competitive. You can't stop it.
Not Sm4sh, far as i've heard. Would love to see it get popular, though. It has interesting looking combat, without risking accessibility.
[sp]How do I get videos to show in the thread?[/sp]
use the normal link in the top of your browser, but take out the "s" from "https" that usually makes it work for me.
Yeah I'm fairly certain Facepunch can't accept youtu.be links for embedding.
If anyone does play Sm4sh for 3DS, send me a PM with your friend code so we can smash sometime.
http://www.insidermonkey.com/blog/the-10-best-selling-video-games-of-all-time-330763/?singlepage=1 super old ass article but it made me realize 5 out of 10 of the best selling games of all time are owned directly by nintendo and people bitch about how nintendo is "A complete joke" and "going out of business" they own the best selling list. they also basically own one of the best fighting games out there.
I just realized something unfortunate: You can no longer enable customization, select a custom moveset, then disable customization in order to disable custom equipment but leave custom moves in-tact. Why is equipment even a thing? There's no balance surrounding it, it just seems like something they threw together when they realized that the malleable stats introduced in smash run and tour would transition easily into general changes to characters due to coding the smash engine to be dynamic with character physics. The equipment themselves are nothing more than padding out the length it'll take to grind for custom moves. Which is ridiculous to say the least, grinding shouldn't be the only appeal to the single-player modes, that's poor execution on making single-player appealing. Other than making house-rule builds with equipment (ie high gravity + smooth lander) or for making a specific build to make classic mode easier, no one I know even gives two shits about custom equipment, it's all about the moves -- moves that happen to be gated behind an arbitrary wall.
