Reign of Kings: Slaughtering people in loincloths one by one (EA)

Gonna wait how it turns out before picking it up, I don't want to live the Starforge fiasco
You're probably not gonna be able to pick it up for any cheaper price. I can't answer if it's worth it though, i've yet to play it, only seen streams of it.
For 20$, if you have a few friends the game is pretty worth it in my opinion. The devs seem pretty dedicated and are actually showing results. Prior to update 5, combat on a server with more than 20~ people was basically impossible. Update 5 fixed most of the lag associated with movement was fixed and provided a nice framerate boost.
If you are still skeptical, even the devs recommend just hold off buying it until the game is fully released.
20$ is going to be as cheap as it will get for right now.
Q: What will Reign Of Kings cost on Release day?

How is playing solo if you don't have anyone to go into the game with? Is it easy to form a group from a server or is it just a big DM mess?

Solo isn't too tough, resource collection is fine by yourself. If you don't have someone to show you the ropes, the learning curve can be sorta steep.
Playing in a guild is your best bet though. You have protection and guild resources to use, plus someone to look out for you and mentor you. My first few hours I played alone and got wrekt lots of times (was still fun), then I got taken in by a guild and it became 10x more fun. Raiding with them was hilarious. The full set of iron armour and weapons / tools was a good bonus.

A lot of it depends on the server. Official servers tend to have the result you described, however, that's just official servers. Community servers tend to describe their community in their server title (most of the time it's a lie). Some servers people will just run up to you to try to kill with where-as other servers people will help you at every opportunity.
Solo play is pretty decent overall, it usually just takes longer to gather the amount of resources where you might have had a group to help.
Solo is manageable and fun. Was able to build a lakehouse and get some leather armor and a nice weapon so far on a community server. Not too shabby.
Life is Feudal or this?
This. LiF in my opinion takes too long to get started up in.
The combat in LIF is also full potato, I don't have experience with the combat from this game but it looks much better at least.

Right now it kind of sucks. Different attacks don't do more damage based on the armour of the enemy or anything as far as I know. Different attacks are only really useful for making sure your attacks actually land.
I really wouldn't recommend this game in its current state due to 2 major things:
-Yarr! players can play on official or community servers with legit players.
-Cheating is out of control. All you need currently is just a cheat engine running, there is no security as of now, beside admins noticing you somehow and banning you. You can easily dupe any item, stop hunger or thirst and use speed hack for your advantage.
If you can find a private server and play with bunch of friends (you would need plenty of them to make it worthwhile imo), it could be fun, but until above issues are resolved I would suggest not buying it yet.
All above is based on Alpha 5 and Alpha 6 builds.
If the same people who made this made StarForge, count me out. Shame, it looked really interesting.
I just can't support a developer who made me pay full price for an unfinished game.
Suck a weenie CodeHatch. I have no hopes for you.

It's still fun though. Different attacks such as the overhead actually do go for headshots, which can one-hit decapitate with some weapons.
It looks fun but I am not buying into it until release. Starforge was a massive cockup and they really shat on the community. I don't like CodeHatch and I definitely don't trust them.

I can definitely confirm the rampant cheating. The other night on one server with a low population, overnight a single person planted a castle right next to ours with a trebuchet on top of it. We considered this an obvious declaration of war and immediately went to work in taking over their castle and disassembling it. When they came on while me and my friends were blasting a hole in the wall, they tried to fight us (and failed miserably). They ragequitted right after dying and we went to reap the rewards.
That single person managed to get around 8000 water and around 10000~ cobblestone blocks. All within a span of roughly eight hours. The water alone would have taken around five hours of doing nothing but gathering it to accumulate. The cobblestone would have taken much longer. He also had obscenely high numbers of other resources so using them kind of left a bad taste in our mouth.
The duping will hopefully be fixed by alpha seven, considering they are working on it now.
FP server when?
Also in the game's current state, I would definitely recommend buying it. Even if they were to completely abandon the game right now playing it on a small community server has been nothing but a blast.
That being said, avoid official servers and badly administrated community servers like the plague.
hows the performance? I have a pretty low-end pc but I'm used to playing games on low anyway, so as long as it runs..
the only thing putting me off is the talk of poor net code and cheating
Performance is good and bad, for me personally. Although it has improved overall since the developers pushed out those optimization patches. I am able to run on medium settings with a pretty steady framerate, but sometimes I get a second or so of FPS droppage -- which doesn't really affect anything for me. Also, after a while of playing on a server, it seems like things get laggy, so there are server restarts (or crashes), but those happen only every few hours and depending on the server you are playing on.

My laptop runs the game reasonably well at around 40 FPS on fairly low settings, however, some of my other friends with worse setups seem to run the game better.
Hey, sorry for bumping a week old thread but I gave this game a whirl and it's actually pretty neat.
I found a server IP online that was full and had some wacky adventures, didn't seem to be anyone cheating but I don't know that for certain. The game is pretty but the people look derpy.
just spent an hour and a half defending a castle with my friend against ~10-12 intruders from the kings army who started sieging us because we were flinging hay bales across the map onto the kings doorstep with our trebuchet, eventually we had to go and managed to declare a truce with the king and would play again 10/10
