Goon is saying nearly the same thing I've been saying since Battlefield 3 tried to be a sequel to Battlefield 2.
Right before the BF4 release, I decided to go back and play the old Battlefield games, namely BF1942 and BF2 because those are the ones I played and liked the most. It was so much fun. Yes, they're missing a lot of the modern conveniences that we take for granted nowadays, but the way the maps were built and the way the pacing worked was so much better.
Everything felt so much bigger and much more spread out. You had a lot more choices not only in the where you would attack but how you would attack. After playing 1942 a bunch I was trying to figure out why this is. Battlefield 3/4 can make maps as big as El Alamein and Gazala, but it chooses not to. Caspian Border could have been a much bigger map if it wanted to, just look at the enormous amount of wasted space around the edges of the maps. This applies to pretty much all the maps. You have a big map with all the stuff concentrated neatly in a little stamp in the center of the map.
It's not just raw map size, but the way everything was paced. Infantry moved slower. In 1942 there wasn't even a sprint. In 2, you could sprint for only a limited time. Walk and sprint speeds also felt slower than what we have right now. It wasn't just the infantry, even vehicles were slower. In 1942, the fastest your tank would go on even ground was something like the normal WASD movement in 4. It's pretty slow, and made everything you did more methodical. Battlefield 2 was faster, but nowhere near the speeds you could reach when you press the sprint button in a tank, and BF2 tanks had no sprint.
I hadn't even thought about the impact that 3D spotting has. Personally, I think 3D spotting was a bet positive change because it lights up targets for your teammates, but it removes a lot of the stealth elements the classic series had.
What I refer to as "classic Battlefield" (1942-2142) is markedly different from the modern Battlefield. Did it have its own set of problems? Oh hell yeah. You gad dolphin diving, weird balance choices, and record breaking awful netcode and more, but those are things that don't exist anymore in current Battlefields.
The problem with the classic Battlefield nostalgia goggles argument, is that what made the old Battlefield games great can be easily copied today with the current Frostbite engine without the silly and dated flaws they used to have. Current Battlefield games on the other hand are fundamentally designed around a different feel and pace. You can't patch something like that out. It requires building the game, the maps, and the mechanics around those principles that were for whatever reason lost when Bad Company came around.
Sorry this got so long-winded, but I really love the classic Battlefield games. I really do think that when people say classic Battlefield wasn't that good because of trivial things like dolphin diving or easily changed balance numbers are completely missing the point.
I prefer BF3/4's faster gameplay except for the kill times and suppression. Both turn close range combat into who sees who first and long range fights can quickly devolve into awkward nonlethal suppression battles.

honor rules on a public server? Hhah

What
Is it for the sake of ~REALISM~ or can someone not hit a moving target
Is it just me or is Battlefield 4 way too busy? I can't see shit on the screen and when I do it's too late because I've been killed from god knows where. I've tried a couple different game modes and they all resulted in the same thing, me being killed from 5 kilometres away from a tiny ass dot and I have no idea how these people see me!
I'm playing on the Xbox 360 by the way and I've had to up the brightness A LOT and it still doesn't help as now the screen went from being too dark to too blinding.
Also glitches GALOR! Weird text over lapping other text never telling me if I won or lost. Graphical glitches up the ass and OH GOD THE LAG!!!
Please don't tell me I'm the only one who is suffering from all of this.
It seems that I can't see spotted infrantry in jets even with the mesh quality at ultra, I used to be able to in bf3.
I wonder if it is only on my side or dice made it that way, jets were so powerful back then.
Does anyone know ?

I had a lot of trouble with this too when I started playing. Some of it just comes with time as you get used to the maps and character models, but something that helped me a lot was turning up the brightness. I used to put it on 100%, but now I leave it at 70% and it's a good enough compromise.

You're not the only one, I noticed that too.
I wonder if it's more intentional because they want you to focus more on land vehicles than individuals, or if it's just a weird culling issue.
Uhm what. Carbines are even less accurate than ARs.
The AK5C has very tight spread; combine that with little to no recoil and you've got yourself a stupidly accurate gun effective up to ~150m.
SOOO Close!
I needed one or two more god damn layers, DICE!

I could barely play when I was playing on my 73 inch screen. Everything is just too hard to see on that big of a screen, I do not know how console players manage. Maybe i'm just used to a 24 inch screen sitting a foot away from my face when playing. But I could barely make out targets, everyone blended in so well.

did you make the spikes out of individual triangles or did you use a huge diamond stretched across? Could cut layer usage down

If I got the PC version at Gamestop, would it be just an origin download key?
When can we play in a squad together, Facepunch?
If I got the PC version at Gamestop, would it be just an origin download key?
You get 3 discs along with a key that you have to use to activate. It takes like an hour to install since it's 26gb.

I considered renting a server for FP but the price feels a bit steep when you look at the numbers, a max-slot server runs ~$90/month
don't get nearly enough donations to merit that

I don't think we'd need a 64 slot server though.
30 slots is ok in my book.

I guess I'll end up doing that. Gonna use that employee discount if I can.

would have to get 34 to account for 32 players and 2 commanders, which still comes out to ~$44/month. Pretty steep sounding, especially given server troubles at the moment. Can pick up later if we really want
I finally got round to installing and playing Battlefield 4 after being on Holiday for a week, and uh.... is this supposed to happen in the singleplayer?

Diving into the flooded section of that boat when suddenly bam I'm outside of the map (again). I can also fire and use weapons.

Decide to go explorering but I don't get far before I start falling (again)

Managed to fall 300km before I gave up

64 slot servers are shit anyway.

Yeah that's the secret moon level.
is BF4 worth it or should I just stick to BF3?
bf4 even in its current state is better than bf3; I quit bf3 so fast that despite how bf4 ranking is over 4x faster (4x less XP plus getting XP seems easier but I'm also good. ez service stars ez life) I am like twice my bf3 rank in bf4 already
to me BF4 is almost a completely different game for some reason and I really want to keep BF3 installed because it's a fun and totally different game but my 5 TB harddrive is actually full
BF4 is still mega stuttery for me
sooo, I opened my lvl 20 battlepack, jeez I wonder what useless shit I'm getting this tim...

oh...
:v:
I'll save that when the servers are stable
How do you use XP boosts anyway? I have gotten so many, but I have no idea where they go.
