Okay, the beta is so uncomfortable to play due to stutters I think I'll pass for now. This is so heavily unoptimized, I don't even see half the shit I saw on BF3 without lags and still lag worse.
I've done the same. It sucks because when it's playable between stutters the game feels really fun.
I downloaded this on Xbox and for some reason the textures were absolutely horrible more than 5ft away. Is that because it's Beta or just because Xbox?
I think both.

Yea...
I've literally rage quit now with hitting a desk with my fist.
I went on a camping roof above D, to clear it out with my beloved 870mc shotty, killed 3 guys after leaving the elevator, went to check if there is anyone camping on the corner of the roof. Went back to the elevator, saw the closed doors.
After waiting few seconds doors opened with enemy in front of me, wanted to shot him in the face... guess what... a stutter, shotgun didn't fire, I woke up dead after rain of high and low fps spikes 2 seconds later, watching slideshow during that spike time...
Enough.
I can't remember when last time I raged hard enough to hit anything, but it was years ago.
I will now just wait either for a patch to adress optimization issues or for the full release!
Game is totally unplayable by me now, not only I had to sacrifice details (set everything to low), lower the FOV to 70 and even reduce from 1080p to 720p (this one Is the worst for me, I can't stand 720p).
Game is still unplayable at this state, it's even worse than what bf3 beta was.
I really do hope they will introduce some sort of patch during beta time... leaving it for 2 weeks like that would be a sin.
My gaming laptop arrives next week and I've pre-ordered this, I've only tried the beta on the PS3 but I hear the PCs version is so much better, is it true, or have I just wasted £40?
Well, if 64 players, shittin better graphics and rebindable 1 to 1 aim controls constitute better in your book then no, those 40 pounds were well spent.
I'm going to try the beta today. I have never really played Battlefield before but I'm looking forward to it. I think I can even run it smooth. Does it need a lot more hardware power than bf3?

Good enough for me! All my hype wasn't wasted

Haha, well if you didn't read at least two pages of either of the topics, then I guess you're in for a surprise.

I read that it's freezing and not running smooth for some people but maybe I'm lucky and it runs smooth on my system. But, it's a beta and I'll stay tuned.
IMO the beta makes the game look really unpolished, and it's less than a month until release. The arm animations are downright terrible. Nobody holds an AK47 that way.

I dont get people, when you release a beta that's basically finished they bitch that it's just a glorified demo, when you release a buggy beta they lose sales because people think the full release will be the same.
It's not the same group. One group of people complain it's buggy and thus the final release will be, and then the other set says it's fine and this is just a demo in disguise.
Happened since BC2.

From what I have gathered it is not performing well on other operating systems other than Windows 8 x64, which the current build was optimized for. I'm still yet to hear otherwise and it makes sense. I've seen this myself where I have a Windows 8 rig that is fairly beefy and I'm getting great performance. I have another friend with a fairly decent Windows 8 rig and is playing stable, aside from the occasional performance drop due to the limitations of his hardware. Then I have another friend with a really beefy laptop that is running Windows 7 and he is getting nearly unplayable framerates with lots of stuttering.
My first instinct would be to assume it has something to do with how Windows 8 handles its resources and such; which regardless of your stance on Windows 8 you can't deny it has improved a lot in those aspects. It's a shame that the UI portion has been less than welcomed.
I'm getting a 15-20 FPS mostly with the occasional long loading time and 1 or 2 seconds FPS drop... Needs optimization.
I could run BF3 on High pretty well, but the demo for BF4 on low with about 20-30fps max; will it run better on release?

From what I've experienced just about all barriers and obstacles can be destroyed or run through. I know I've hauled ass through some obstacles trying to evade a gunship playing cat and mouse with me.

If it stays as it is....DICE gets my money.
Seems like fun. A lot of fun. Hope they pack some big BF maps this time.

You can't tell me EA/Dice aren't being as incompetent and as lazy as I've ever seen them with the launch of this beta.
Yeah, it has the word BETA on it, but it isn't a BETA. It's a Pre-Release Demo. They are printing physical copies of this game which have to start being finished more or less 2 weeks before they're on the shelves. That's 3 weeks from now, giving them one whole week from NOW (And the Beta runs until what, the 15th?) to get the first copies ready to ship. The reason I say they're incompetent and lazy is the performance issues that the majority of people are having. CPU issues that cause 100% spikes for seconds at a time and cause people to lock up for a couple seconds every time they turn 30 degrees, shoot, or reload. How a bug like THAT and so widespread made it through in-House testing, all the way into "Open Beta" 3 weeks before release is baffling
And we're supposed to believe that it'll be fixed before release buy our game? It very well may be but I absolutely do not put any faith in EA. Ever. It's stupid to do so, and I'm not going to put down $60 on it
Oooorrrrr maybe the beta is a much older build of the game. You're right that it's essentially a demo, since they clearly don't care about testing anything other than their server loads, but assuming these bugs will be in the final game is just silly.
It is a nice way of picking up things they might not have changed already, small stuff that escape Q/A because they think it's how it's supposed to be etc.
[editline]7th October 2013[/editline]
Not to mention a nice way to get comments on certain game mechanics pre-launch, like the elevators and recon PLD.

It was said already hundred of times, even on their twitter at 1st of October.
Beta build was 1 week old then.
It's 2 weeks old right now.
Nothing has changed since the beta release.

also its an ak12
All the same, I really doubt the game will be released with such obvious optimization issues. Not that I'm buying it. I already feel like I spent way too much on BF3, no matter how much fun I have with it.
What the fuck? got a 61,27mb update on the beta, Anyone else got it?

....Nein...? What's in it?

Dice what are you doing, mines going as well.
Ok, I played it now and it doesn't run that smooth but it's still playable. The fps are fine, it's just stuttering a bit.
The game looks really complex to me and it bothers me that you can't look directly on the ground. Thats really annoying when you want to shoot down an edge or something.
But it's a lot of fun to destroy everything with a tank. Also the damn skyscraper which always falls over in the end, what the hell.
Nevermind its to fix punkbuster kicks.
Hi everyone,
We received reports from players experiencing disconnections from the Battlefield 4 beta servers, possibly with a PunkBuster error message (stating “you were kicked by PunkBuster”).
We are currently investigating this issue internally and will update you here as soon as we have more info.
Update: We are working on rolling out a fix and expect the issue to be resolved very soon.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Nevermind its to fix punkbuster kicks.
Punkbuster needed that fix 10 years ago and will never get it. How about a fix for the CPU overload stuttering problem 75% of people are getting, instead. Planetside 2 runs like a dream in comparison
