How is the leveling going to be, anyone knows? I hope it's not as tedious as the first one, where as a commando you needed to kill thousands of stalkers to level up, or weld doors as the "engie"

All what we know it won't be that grindy, or that is what they have said couple times in their videos.

There's more levels per perk so I assume you gain them faster.

From what I could see in the videos, you get small amounts of EXP for killing any zed (maybe while with the perk weapons?) while you get a bonus for doing something perk related. In the case of the Commando, you can see the player get 1XP for small Clot kills while getting 5XP for Stalker kills. Don't recall if you get more for taking out larger threats, like Scrakes and Fleshpounds.

I can't find where, but they explicitly said that their old system of achievement-style leveling was fucking terrible and they're moving to a more passive "just play the game" one instead. I'm sure there will be some things that'll level you faster, but I'm going to make a big assumption that a commando could level up to max without ever using an assault rifle.
Also, extremely fucking hyped. I don't think I have an insane number of hours on retail Killing Floor - maybe 300-500? Less? But a lot of that was because I played the UT2k4 mod with friends for days and days.
[sp]I really hope Unreal's hilarious text-to-speech function stays. Best way to kill time in the ready-up lobby.[/sp]
I've been looking at the PCGamer gameplay videos and fuck me does it look fun. I just hope the EA will have more guns.
I hope offclassing weapons will still be useful. Grabbing a LAR or a .44 as a zerk or medic was great for long range shooting and fighting crawlers.

In the biotics lab video, a few players were of varying low levels, from around 1 to 5. All this information is derived from that video.
When the player, who was level 5, got kills, the kills gave them a decent amount of experience. From the first around alone, the player got 1/4th of the entire bar's worth of experience. In the span of about three rounds, the player went from what he started at (a little less than 1/4th of a bar to level 6.

In this picture, after killing a single clot with their perk weapon, the player gets a noticeable, albiet minuscule, amount of experience.
Near the end of the video, when the player began using a shotgun, he didn't get any experience from kills.

From the looks of it, offclassing weapons is still a reasonable tactic, but you aren't going to get any experience from it.

maybe clots return less experience per kill because they're basically fodder enemies?

Easier enemy = less experience
Although this makes me wonder how they will handle the patriarch and other boss character in terms of experience. I can imagine them just splitting the experience among the team (say, 200 xp per player).
As far as I can tell it works the same way as KF1, but damage and stalker kills are converted to XP and added to the same pool. So tougher enemies will give more XP simply because they have more health.
It's early access? Shit... I need money.

I reckon commando gets bonus xp for stalkers, the one in the vid was getting 6 xp a pop for each stalker, vs 2 for each clot/gorefast, that's a pretty big difference.
Similarly, medic will get xp for heals, support for welds, zerk for parries maybe?
who knows.
I think its really nice how you get xp for just killing things instead of having to grind for welding/whatever in kf1. Definitely makes gameplay a lot less stressful when you have multiple of the same perk in one game.

There'll still be competition I reckon, the main issue the xp is addressing is being forced to do certain things (e.g. welding as support [which actually hurts the team 90% of the time], killing stalkers etc)
I hope there won't be situation where you have like 5.9 B out of 30K shotgun damage and 1 K out of 1 30 K door weld points.

What? No, it's universal now
Welded a door? cool, 10xp towards your next level
Did some shotgun damage? nice, 3xp towards your next level
No arbitrary values to achieve

It almost looked like players were getting XP from other players' kills too, but I'm not sure.

Wasn't it always universal? I'm pretty sure I've leveled up a medic class before without actually being that class so I assumed you could do the same with the other classes.

Yes, but theres no set limit for each to achieve. Welding doors and dealing shotgun damage all gives you general experience points towards the next level of support specialist.
i'm getting christmas achievements, is that normal, or am I just dumb?
They unlocked all the festive achievements and servers can select festive zeds as an option since tripwire is done with killing floor updates.

How dare he before I get it.
So, while we are waiting for KF2 which will come around this month do you guys want to give KF1 a send off and play some transit? Trying to get Rachel and it's a pain.

On a somewhat related note, I like how most of the new maps displayed seemed to leave "important" doors unweldable, meaning that there should hopefully be fewer situations where you get trapped between zeds and a welded door.
So, doors don't respawn between waves?
