if i do the upgrade to the scholar edition, does it mean i no longer have regular ds2?
You still keep it. SotFS is registered as a different game in your library.
sweet, i get to save myself more than i thought.
How could I not? This isn't the 90's, Dark Souls would be endlessly frustrating without guidance. I largely explored the Catacombs, New Londo Ruins and Tomb of the Giants without help, but what about the Depths? How would I EVER know to find and use a silver pendent to reflect magic from Manus? Would I have made it in the game at ALL without looking up how the stats worked, and realized how important endurance was? Researching didn't impede my enjoyment even a little bit. Hell, the game is designed to let other players warn you about what's coming and how to defend against it. Actually, it was through all this that I came to understand and appreciate the lore. Downloading the collision data and viewing it through the indie-made world-viewer did even more to help me comprehend just how tightly-woven the world is designed. Point is, I research bosses so I don't spend an hour in vain. I'd rather know what I'm up against. Some games I go into cold, but that just doesn't feel like an option in Dark Souls.
Looking up a boss is the same as skipping it. If you're just following instructions they lose all memorability.
I'm going to need you guys to tell me if Souls 3 retcons Souls 2, because from what I can tell, they just shoved a bunch of hard shit into that game for the sake of it being hard and I'd rather not get pissed off because of bullshit by playing it if it leads to a dead end. If I can skip from 1 to 3 with no loss then that's what I'm going to do. [editline]11th June 2015[/editline]
Looking up a boss is the same as skipping it. Honestly, if you spend some points in ADP and you get the hang of superior dodging it's not overwhelmingly hard.
It's not up to you to decide how someone plays a game.

No ADP = Terrible playthrough. You're welcome.
Sorry, I don't subscribe to the idea of artificially limiting myself for the sake of making a hard game even harder. I'm bad enough as it is with getting pissed off at games. It's not like I'm breezing through anyway, it's still plenty challenge for me. I'm not competing with anyone, I'm having fun. It's why I'm not big on multiplayer, less that most times I'm invaded I lose. Point is, don't judge me for not taking part in a cock contest.
Imo if you're going to look up in-depth guides on what to do you might as well just watch an LP instead.
But that's not fun...
Only time I referred to guides was when I got lost and didn't know where to go.
I like playing games my way, and you better do it my way, or your're wrong.

Thats what makes the boss fights interesting and satisfying, I dont really know why you'd want to play a souls game otherwise.

man, I had a really sweet half-awake groggy morning dream about randomly finding Dark Souls 3 footage on Youtube in a channel with less than 30 views the beginning was like Undead Burg with a sunlit castle area, the camera panned around with the (male) narrator talking about stuff and kingdoms etc. I got the feeling the narrator was Gwyn for some reason. There was an awful attempted comedy part where the camera paused on some random hollow trying to lift the boards placed over a well but failing and the narrator suddenly talking directly to the hollow, saying stuff like "come on now, you can do it" until the hollow fell down the well. Then it panned on a narrow ledge slightly above the well area where there was a hollow banging on the wall wearing some equipment I hadn't seen before, the camera settled behind the hollow and suddenly the area title appeared and whoever was playing had gained control of their character. They were wearing nothing on their arms or chest, just a red waistcloth and a hat that looked like the bandit hat. The footage jumped through many areas, panning over places like a fiery area that reminded me of New Londo, a place of grey sand and charred trees with an obvious DS1 Ancient Dragon sitting next to a statue holding two spears and a really tall cathedral/castle-like place with knight type enemies. There was a section where the player character was wearing some really sweet looking white enamel plate armor with a white waistcloth and a white waist-high cape with red inner lining, except the cape was worn over the chest instead of the back and if you fell a long distance you could use the cape to glide like in Arkham games except with less mobility. It was a very strange dream and I found myself thinking "why am I not linking this everywhere, why am I going back to sleep" until I fell asleep. Had to check my Youtube history just in case afterwards just to see if it had really been a dream.

At least I can say that I dream about the Abyss almost every night.
I once dreamed that i couldn't stop rolling with a Catarina armor and when i woke up i realised that i was stuffed with 2 big round pillows and had trouble breathing. :v:
If that armour were a little spikier, continuous rolling in it would end up being Catarina Damacy. Just imagine Siegmeyer of Catarina rolling over monsters and having them sticking to his armour as Oscar rolls him around, while the Katamari Damacy theme blares in the background. "I AM SIEGMEYER OF CATARINA, AND YOU SHALL FEEL MY WRATH!"
Laaaaaa la la la la la laa laaaa Catarina Damacyyyyy
And his daughter Sieglinde looks on wondering what the hell her dad is doing.
Should I buy this? I struggled through the PC Port of DS1 and found it challenging, but rewarding. I played DS2 with friends, up to a boss with a court of Skeleton Kings or something in a cavernous valley but I was rather drunk while doing so so I wasn't aware of any of the finer changes to the game. What's changed basically?
Buy what? DS2 original or SotFS? Gameplay mechanics have changed since DS1 (Not so much from DS2.0 and SotFS); The kick is a shoulder bash Weapon swing speeds between weapons feels more uniform (Less varying swing speeds) You now lose a chunk of your max health for each time you hollow (Up to half max health) SotFS allows 6 phantoms in a world at once (3 summon 3 invading) Dodging has been nerfed unless you increase the agility stat (A decent amount of levels into ADP to reach DS1 dodging levels) Poise is broken as fuck NPCs from the DLC and new Invaders for SotFS are bullshit OP Collisions and hit detection are still broken in quite a few spots Network is largely improved from DS1 More stats to put into Levelling up seems to be easier / faster compared to DS1 Harder to get titanite shards (Can't buy infinite at first blacksmith / shop person) Jumping feels better compared to DS1. Cloth Physics~
as for SOTFS, enemy placement is the most major change that comes to mind

I trust Halbderds are still in it? I love me a good Halberd.

I hope SotFS is on the daily deals, €10 is a fair price for the upgrade but it'd be great if it was lower.
I feel bad about Siegmeyer... Tried to help him, but he got killed by the chaos eaters. I suppose his honor was at least kept intact. I know if I saved him he'd just go hollow, but still. Saved Solaire from hollowing at least. Thinking I'll let him be the sun he always wanted after we fight Gwyn. Dark Souls kinda remind me of this RPG I've heard of called Midnight, in that no matter what happens, the best you can do is break even. But what I like is that it doesn't wallow in despair. The characters aren't all "woe is me," listening to Linkin Park and being all "edgy" and shit. In fact, most of them are full into the gallows-humor. It's all very solemn, everyone kinda resigned to their fates, yet still so many characters are engaging in incredible acts of nobility and sacrifice. But anyway... fucking killed Kalameet! Didn't start off well. One try ended so terribly I got killed in two shots. Then, finally, I got into the groove, got into the flow of his attack patterns. A slow dance, but one I ended up leading. So damn satisfying... Greatest part was ending with a touch of irony... Hey 'Meet-ey? How's it feel being a dragon that gets finished-off with gobs of chaos fire?
I don't know if I want to buy the upgrade or not. I hear that some of the enemy rearrangements are good and that others are shit, and that some of the moved items make a few areas pointless to go through
