"Why won't it kindle ????"
What if your character is the monarch from DS2, you used the crowns to keep yourself from hollowing but that doesn't stop you becoming all messed up due to the passage of time.
That would be interesting, but remember what they said: though Dark Souls 2 is set in the same setting/world as Dark Souls 1, they're not related. I think the same would apply for DSII to DSIII.
arguably dark souls 2 is more important to the story than dark souls 1 though, and the implications of ds2 are more far-reaching

"mrw the host dies right as i kill the boss"
Kinda hoping that rumor about having to use dead bodies for summoning too turns out to be false, because dragging some dude around for jolly cooperation sounds like a pain. Maybe this is the new bonfire pictured, since "only embers remain?"

It sprays blood. :v:
that is fucking metal
New details.
Coming out in early 2016 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Dark Souls III will be the third and final chapter of the tough as nails dark fantasy franchise. The developers at FromSoftware have once again returned to create a new world for players to discover. The burning embers of a once proud kingdom will set the stage for the concluding adventure. As expected, players will battle against fearsome enemies and bosses using a variety of weapons and magic while finding secrets throughout the land. Today, we were privileged enough to be the first to speak to Namco Bandai about the game, along with being shown a demo, and here’s everything we learned from the development team during our time with them.
As with the previous titles, there will be a single player campaign as well as online multiplayer (how many players is undefined as of yet). The team has focused on three things primarily: Sense of world scale and immersion, apocalyptic world and heroic lore, and evolution and deepening of the series concepts.
World scale and immersion: Full immersion by dynamic light sources and wind blown ash and cloth effects.
Apocalyptic world and heroic lore: Features withered beauty such as a faded sun. The story will be around a character from the series known as the “Lord of Cinder”.
Evolution and deepening of the series concepts: Dark Souls is known for its formidable difficulty and unique online system. They will evolve and improve upon these already existing elements.
Deepening sword action: New action elements utilizing a feature of weapon/item in depth. More tactical options.
It was at this point a demo was shown. The demo begins looking at a castle. A Sword and Shield are shown, as the game is presented on the Xbox One, and then a quiver of arrows appears. The game takes place inside the big castle from the open. The wind blows cloth and wildlife. This is just the alpha build, but it gives us a glimpse of what we can expect.
Bonfires return as base camps. Our hero walks down stairs and faces some undead skeletons. A few of the skeletons attack, and he blocks and dodges around them, eventually defeating them. Dragon corpses litter the castle. Ash from the dragons’ bodies is blown away by the wind. The player goes into a dark tower, uses a torch. Torches have no limit unlike the previous games. He is ambushed and uses a ladder to go to a lower level. He can offer flame to graves, as Graves can be used as torches or as landmarks. Graves also help unveil the back-story of the game along the way.
The player uses a long sword. Can hold it single-handed or two-handed. Once in ready stance, he can use special heavy moves to deal lots of damage or break shields. The player attacks a shielded enemy guard with ready stance. The guard is thrown off stance, allowing him to kill it. He avoids a large group of enemies by going upstairs, however, a dragon awaits him there. The dragon rains down fire, and the character goes back down the stairs to challenge the undead army instead. Thankfully, the dragon has burned them, clearing the path.
The hero acquires a great sword, which has a feature called Lunge. This allows players to forcefully attack an enemy. He challenges a knight using lunge, but the knight kills him. Knights are tough enemy types. He challenges the knight again. The lunge sends the knight flying into the air, and he dies. The hero goes back inside the tower, and is ambushed again. In a dark area, there are lots of enemies to ambush players, but players can also ambush them. The hero uses fire magic to cause an explosion and kill multiple enemies at once. He rushes to the top of the tower and is now on the roof where a giant black monster attacks, and almost instantly kills him!
The area is known as the Wall of Lodeleth, but all areas are connected, like in Bloodborne. Using a shortcut to go to the boss, he picks up a bow. Controls look very similar to Bloodborne. Being attacked by zombie dogs, the fast controls from Bloodborne allow him to move quickly and kill the fast-moving dogs. Short bows allow the character to move around really fast and fire shots after rolling, but don’t do a lot of damage. Using the dual sword now we see a new feature, Spin. The hero uses it in an open courtyard and it can strike multiple enemies at the same time.
Now, moving towards the Mausoleum, there are two knights, and one of them has a spear. He separates both knights from each other and kills them one at a time. The hero heads into the Mausoleum. A cut-scene starts. The doors close. Drool drips down from the ceiling. A tall man-like beast with flaming swords falls to the floor. The boss fight with the “Dancer of The Frigid Valley” begins. Wearing metal armor, the beast is feminine, with a veil and moves like a dancer. Like in Bloodborne, depending on how much health they have, their moves change. Our hero makes a valiant effort, but sadly, he dies and the demo comes to a close.
I need to see this demo.
Wait, so Gwyn is back? Or, seeing as they mention all the dragon corpses, maybe we're playing during the war?
they're probably just drakes and the writer is too thick to know the difference
I'm more inclined to believe we're playing way, way after the war, and even after the events of Dark Souls 1. If we assume that Dark Souls 3 is a "direct" sequel to Dark Souls 1, then it would seem that we have begun the Age of Dark after defeating Gwyn.
-late apparently, sorry-
That would be interesting, but remember what they said: though Dark Souls 2 is set in the same setting/world as Dark Souls 1, they're not related. I think the same would apply for DSII to DSIII.
Old King Soul? Old Dead One Soul? Old Paledrake Soul? Old Witch Soul?
"Many [fucking] kingdoms have risen on this very spot?"
"[Hey all us NPCs are trying to tell you this used to be Lordran]"
I wonder if the Lord of Cinder is just Gwyn or its someone else who's taken on the name.
Hell that wording makes it even sound like we could be the Lord of Cinder and considering the crown like armour and the cracking armour I wouldn't be surprised.

Even though Fromsoft explicitly denied any notion of that.
I think if anything DS3 is the game that's gonna more tightly tie DS1 and 2 together, considering it seems to have both giants, crowns and Lordran.

A makeshift mini Bonfire perhaps? SPECULATION: At a price, you lay a body down on a spot of land and acts like a new bonfire. Upon a number of uses, it dies down unless you sacrifice something else to keep it active. It probably doesn't work as a checkpoint when summoning or invading due to not being a full Bonfire.
More speculation: I find it weird that the character is named "The Lord of Cinder" when you clearly killed Gwyn in 1. Does a random undead take advantage of the chaos and proclaims him/herself king in a ruined land, or is the Chosen Undead from 1 alive because in head-canon he does not reignite the First Flame, but Solaire still does in his?
Even though Fromsoft explicitly denied any notion of that.
They can deny whatever the fuck they want I'm talking about shit explicitly in the game that relates DSII to Dark Souls 1. Miyazaki said way back when the pendant was a special item and that turned out to be jack shit devs can lie mate.

The Old Chaos is the Bed of Chaos for fuck's sake don't be dumb man.

hopefully they don't fuck with the feeling between now and 2016
What's omni directional combat? Control of where your weapon swings?
What's omni directional combat? Control of where your weapon swings?
I think he's referring to turn speed. For example, if you attack once and then flick the stick back and attack again, you'll turn around instantly and attack behind you.

Yeah, but where the fuck is Eleum Loyce geographically? It certainly doesn't look like it's anywhere close to Drangleic, judging by the lack of mountains and the abundance of snow. I'd certainly be willing to believe the Old Chaos and the Bed are the same thing, but that doesn't necessarily mean Drangleic and Lordran are anywhere near each other.
Also, parries and backstabs are apparently just like DkS1.
