Yesterday I was playing and I had to leave the game for a few minutes, so I go to a spot where I thought I would be safe.
As I'm walking away I hear myself dying to some NPCs that happened to wander into the area I was in.
And when I came back I got invaded at the bonfire and died.
I really wish I could just pause the game sometimes :|

That's why I either go back to majula or just exit out to the main menu since it saves exactly where you were and the progress you made in the area.

Though I suppose it can be a bit of a nuisance to have to sit through a loading screen again, but I never experience any longer than 5 or 10 seconds.

I did them after beating Velstadt. After that, you should be high enough level that you can start doing the dlc.

I did them after getting the Ashen Mist Heart, since there's a few important dlc-related things that you can only do through that. You may be a little overleveled by that point though, so just follow your heart if that's something you're worried about. Can't comment on the engraved gauntlets because I never bothered with them.
Yeah, i stand by what i said last time i did the Iron King DLC. It's the weakest of the bunch.
The run up to both Blue Smelter and Sir Alonne are fucking infuriating.

Are these the ones that occasionally crit? I've used them on nearly any character, don't know why and that random crit can sure be tasty sometimes.
I tried the turtle armor that disables backstabs with some manly weapon like the greatsword, great club or grand lance and sun sword in my offhand just running and swinging and i wrecked everybody except for one dragon covenant dude that two shot me with dark magic.
Just need to do Unicorn hell in Ivory King and tie up a few loose ends, including the Dark dungeons in New Game before i go off to the lass boss. The souls you can grind for in Ivory King is something i will continue not to bother with. I just need to collect anything and everything magic related.
If anything, im making sure i dont have to go through the DLC's again by collecting the everything. I just need to storm to NG+2 for Chaos Fireball, and i dont imagine that my luck will be kind to me in the arena. And i've never bothered with NG+ in any souls game either.
I'll be happy when this is fully beaten.

Depends on your weapons really. Crits aren't terribly noticeable in PvE because you're either killing things in a couple hits or you aren't, and they don't occur frequently enough in [I]any[/I] case to be truly noticeable. It can take your swings from "mildly damaging" to "fuck your shit" if it does happen, but I haven't personally had very good luck with them.
Fashion Souls trumps all anyway. If you like the way they look, I say wear 'em.
So I've recently acquired a PS3, and want to get into the series- should I pick up a copy of Dark Souls, or download Demon Souls? I've heard the latter is shorter, but that Dark Souls is slightly easi-er, rather, more fair. Either way I'll probably pick up both eventually, but I wanna know which one I should start with.

You can start with either really, but it's kinda neat to see how the series evolved from Demon's Souls.

I would maaybe say start with Dark Souls. Mostly because there's a lot of material grinding in Demon's (especially if you're going with a dex build, that shit'll take you ages), while they tightened that stuff up pretty well in Dark.
But both games are fantastic, so you can't really go wrong starting with either of them.
Oh, and one more thing. Don't be ashamed to look stuff up in a wiki if you're confused about mechanics or whatever. Some people look down on that, but honestly just do whatever will make things less frustrating because some of the mechanics (particularly the weapon upgrade system in Demon's) can be really convoluted.
