Is there still a way to take screenshots without the UI?
Can't believe more people aren't tearing FROM a new asshole in this thread for their half assed Soul Memory fix.
-Takes up a ring slot
-Will split the playerbase between competitive ring users and non ring users (a 4-way split total, considering the disconnected online play between versions)
-Invalidates the point of having SM in the first place since twinking is now possible again
-Still isn't a sustainable solution because once you run out of souls you'll never be able to re-stock your consumables, and so you'll need to acquire more souls, eventually leading to you gaining a higher tier SM
I would imagine that the ring would be impossible to acquire until you've made considerable progress through the game, at a point where you're fully capable of having most of the game's equipment/upgrading it.
Of course, we still haven't seen where they're actually going to put the ring, so that defense may not hold up in the future.

It seems like a pretty good "fix" to me, although I liked the system for some reason to begin with. They'll never make everyone happy but it solves what I perceived to be the only major problem with the system.
-Takes up a ring slot
This is a fair complaint but considering half the people in this thread wear armor and occasionally more than one ring just for looks it's not entirely unreasonable.
-Will split the playerbase between competitive ring users and non ring users (a 4-way split total, considering the disconnected online play between versions)
The different versions is a moot point because it has nothing to do with the soul memory system, but as for the split between ring and non-ring users it's always been that way and has nothing to do with the fix. Even in DS1 some people chose to make builds and have their character stay at one level, or just keep leveling whenever they could.
-Invalidates the point of having SM in the first place since twinking is now possible again
What exactly do you mean by this, could you clarify? Twinking was mostly due to farming souls for gear upgrades, you can't farm souls with the ring on. Yeah you can pass gear between characters if you've got a friend who will help do that but you could do that before anyways, so that has nothing to do with the ring.
-Still isn't a sustainable solution because once you run out of souls you'll never be able to re-stock your consumables, and so you'll need to acquire more souls, eventually leading to you gaining a higher tier SM
The patch also enables infinitely respawning enemies via covenant so as long as said consumable is dropped by enemies you can always restock that way. Here's a list of all items that as far as I can tell can't be obtained by drops, that can be bought (if they can't be bought, moot points):
-Divine blessing (but you could only buy one anyhow, doesn't really matter)
-Brightbug (limited stock, although a few events do replenish it)
-Witching Urn
-Lightning Urn
-Hexing Urn (all other urns than these 3 listed can be farmed, and these 3 can be using ascetics)
-Lacerating knife
-Aromatic Ooze
-Gold pine resin
-Rotten Pine Resin (resins not on this list can be farmed from drops, also this one is limited stock)
-Lloyd's Talisman
-Silver Talisman
-Simpleton's spice (you can only buy a single one of these anyhow, rest are found)
-Magic Arrow
-Lightning arrow (there is no way to obtain these other than buying afaik)
-Fire Arrow
-Dark Arrow
-Wood bolts
-Heavy bolts
-Fire bolts (there is no way to obtain these other than buying afaik)
-Lightning bolts (there is no way to obtain these other than buying afaik)
-Magic bolts (there is no way to obtain these other than buying afaik)
-Dark bolts (there is no way to obtain these other than buying afaik)
-Lightning Greatarrow (there is no way to obtain these other than buying afaik)
-Fire Greatarrow
So if you're a ranged character you're pretty limited (many special arrows unavailable, probably a bit slow to farm the normal ones by drops), although a few can be farmed via ascetic, but that is the entire list of items that can't be farmed by drops and most can be farmed via ascetic fairly easily. The only essential PVP consumable I see on the list is lloyd's talisman, if you're not hosting. It's also entirely possible they've considered this and have made alternative ways to farm them, but perhaps we should try and petition From to make these available to address the issue.
I think the main point is that the ring is a bullshit, half-assed way to "fix" a broken system.
You guys assume the ring will prevent souls being gained from NPC's when it only states it works for online invasions...
-Players will gain access to a new item: The Agape Ring. When players equip the new Agape Ring, souls collected from kills during online play will be absorbed by the ring rather than the player. This allows players to control their online matchmaking experience by limiting their total souls collected.
Which imo makes it pretty useless seeing as how a large chunk of the souls you gain are from bosses.
I think the main point is that the ring is a bullshit, half-assed way to "fix" a broken system.
Not everyone agrees it's broken, it just threw a wrench in an unofficial community rule people enforced to make match-making easier. Personally I think it's a fine way to address those people, given that the few items that can't be farmed are dealt with.

By online play I initially assumed they meant online as in literally anything online, because in singleplayer you obviously don't care too much about matchmaking. If it only prevents soul gain from killing players then that'd be a problem, because farming consumables would put you up in soul memory anyhow, and reading how it's put in those patch notes it does actually sound like it only addresses player kills...
Man, I wish more people still played DS1. I've been waiting forever to get summoned and I don't know if it's the new beta being wonky, my internet or just that no one's playing it at low levels anymore.
have people gotten soft banned for using this?

Downloaded DS2 after playing DS1 again and the movement just feels much more twitchy.

I think more people will be playing once they push the beta patch out to everyone. So far it feels like only 200 people are playing with the beta patch.
Pretty sure the only way you can get banned is messing with your save files or fiddling with your soul memory.

Yeah I'm hoping it's just because people don't know you have to opt into the beta like PotatoArmada said, I think some people just started up DS2 assuming that it wasn't something you had to opt into and were confused when GFWL was still there.
I'd be down to play some DS1 with people sometime tho, I've got a character or two around level 130 for some jolly co-operation
From Moriana to me.
"Moriana. You invaded me and waved in Dark Souls 2 and I wanted to apologize for back stabbing you, but I wasn't in the mood for invasions, considering I hardly get to play with my friend.."
aww

what level are you? i'm willing to tag along

I've been playing a lot recently. The last time I saw a phantom of a player, I could only catch a glimpse as it flew past me, falling down Blighttown.
I did manage to get an invader a week ago at the Duke's Archives as my SL 125 guy. It was a good fight and I won by a hair.
Since the beta started i've seen maybe half a dozen signs and me and another guy forest invaded a guy and gang banged him on the bridge.
I want a Solaire hoodie. None of that "Praise the Sun" pandering bullshit, just like Solaires armor. Green shoulders and the symbol.

Zip up, preferably.

If it's zip up it will ruin the sun symbol in the middle
No but shut up.
Honestly i prefer zip ups just for the convenience of them. I get too hot too quickly so i like being able to unzip it a bit or take it off easily. Just picky i guess.
These SoFS patch notes seems kinda half assed to me. Doing minor stuff for sake of making the playerbase shut up.
Meanwhile got bored with my INT swordsman and doing Clare playthrough.

The cleric nerf in DS2 is still the dumbest thing ever. "Oh, the expensive bosskiller spells are bosskillers...nerf it"
And then, on my Omni-spell/miracle/hex build, I have nearly a hundred dark orbs that do 600+ damage and cast nearly instantly.
Isn't that basically what patching a game that isn't broken is like?
I do hope they fix my multiplayer issues tho.
Sucks to be stuck in loading screen like forever every second time being invaded/summoned.

All bosses have shit lightning resist to begin with. But From's logic only came to ruining nearly all damaging miracles.

Maybe they were intended to be ruined? Almost all supportive spells are miracles (some of which are reaaaaly strong) and yet they were also the best for pve, and depending on the situation possibly PvP too. From a balance perspective it does make a bit of sense, although it's definitely shit if you only wanted the offensive miracles
they couldve at least made the base spellcount higher
not gonna front
soul appease is fucking destructive in pvp still
you can't block it
has a huge range
it goes through walls
it's hilarious

Boy howdy, you're really going out of your way to defend From lately it seems. They got nerfed, are now useless and the fanbase isn't happy, that's the beginning and the end to it. Frankly who cares what From intended when an entire build is now almost totally unviable and your fans are pissed. Besides, why would you go out of your way to complete ruin a build? That's just stupid no matter how you look at it. Also if you wanted a similar balance, give the other spell classes more supportive spells, like Warmth.
imo sunlight spears were always pve spells to me. they cast too slow and are too easy to dodge for pvp. i don't understand why from thought they were too strong, as if it didnt have high requirements already.
on the other hand, you can spice down GRS to 20 faith and do 800 damage a hit in pvp. oh, and they cast fast too with only 20 att. Don't ask me how I know :v:
OH MY GOD

Dark Fantasy/Final Souls would be a sick game.
Tbh a dark souls styled turnbased game would be lovely in general.
