i forget what makes the knight sheild bad
Yeah, he caught me whilst experimenting. It's been years, I have no idea what any of the stats mean or stuff like that. Dexterity? Resistance?
I'll learn as I go I suppose. It really is great playing the game again. I will say one thing, holy crap what a bad port. We're tremendously lucky that guy fixed it so quickly with that DSfix thing.
Dex = attack for Dex weapons like Rapiers and Katanas
STR = attack for Strength weapons like clubs and greatswords
Resistance = resistance to poison, curse, and bleed; basically your defense against status ailments.
I remember excelling at melee roll oriented combat, should I focus on strength and dexterity then? Does dexterity make you faster as well?

So I summoned this guy, and then we got invaded.

After about ten minutes of chasing me around, he finally gave up and dropped a bunch of colored marbles and some items for me. What a nice guy.

You make the game look like it's active, i've only done one online thing since it switched to Steamworks.
It is pretty active, at least in my experience. It only takes about 2 minutes before I get invaded, and as soon as I pop my summon thing down, I get summoned in around a minute or two.
I think hey moved from the steam beta version on the official version, since now i can see Dark Souls PTDE on my store page without having to use a proxy.
Also Knight Shield rocks,it was my first 100% phys resistance shield since i started my playtrough as the Deprived class.
Why are people so mad when someone uses the knight shield anyway what's wrong with it
I mean it's not super good but you can parry with it and it has 100% phys resistance so why is it so bad

Hah, well that doesn't make it any good.

Weighs a ton and has shitty resistances.

There are so many other better shields than it.

Granted but it's still not a horrible shield, especially for your first or second playthrough.
It's for you to pick up and drop for something else after the gargoyles, if I'm using shields on a character I usually use it until I kill the butterfly and then get the grass crest shield
What is the meta PvP level for DaS2? I've seen people say anything from 150-220
It's gotten pretty active, I can't even set foot into the forest before a fog wall pops up. And I'm around 210 soul level.

that hammer/sword
I need it in my life
I hope there's a rifle with a bayonet on it, similar to the rapier with the pistol on it :v:

Sure but there's not many 100% phys alternatives that early into the game? I mean there's the hollow soldier shield that's a bit lighter with the same stability but it doesn't always drop, and there's the dragon crest shield but you can only get that at start if you have the master key ( also it does have a faith req but not sure if the faith req affects blocking ).
The heater shield is probably the best choice I guess, you just have to shell out 1k souls to the merchant for it if you're not a warrior

1k souls is chump change, just go through undead burg once
Wooden Shield is the best shield for early-game; can easily pick one up as soon as you enter the Undead Burg for the first time. May not be 100% physical resistance, but it has decent resistances overall and is very light-weight, not to mention the stability is impressive as well. I'd use it over the knight shield any day.

Yeah, that's why I think it's the best choice. 1k even in the early game for a shield that's ~3 lighter and has small shield parry window is pretty good.

The wooden shield has disastrous block percentages, only weighs 0.5 less than the heater shield, has lower stability, and has a worse parry window. There's literally no reason to ever use it

That 0.5 weight difference means a whole lot when you're trying to make a build that's lower than the demanding <25% equip load required to fast roll. Not to mention Heater Shield's resistances are equally as "disastrous" as the Wooden Shield, just in different elements.
I guess you can look at it as:
* Get a free shield that's lightweight, good stability, and has average resistances (physical is 93% is good enough imo, but can't block fire for shit).
* Or get a slightly better shield for 1k souls. (100% physical is great, but it can't block magic or lightning for shit).

If you were that extremely strapped for weight though you could get another shoddy shield, the east-west shield, for 1 less weight instead of 2 less that's barely any worse than the wooden shield
If you were that extremely strapped for weight though you could get another shoddy shield, the east-west shield, for 1 less weight instead of 2 less that's not too much worse than the wooden shield.
That shield's stability is TOO low, even at +15.
That shield's stability is TOO low, even at +15.
So 2 weight is too heavy, and it's worth getting a drastically worse (for physical, which is the extremely vast majority of damage early game) shield to lose 0.5 weight, but it's not worth getting a slightly worse shield for an extra 0.5 off? I mean why upgrade either of them, this is early game shields we're talking about here isn't it? Unupgraded the difference is like a couple points of stability and damage reduction

Having 7 less points in physical resistance does not make it "drastically worse". :v: You probably won't even notice the difference unless you have your eyes glued to your health meter.
Heater Shield is also a great choice for beginners, but don't make it sound like it's the ONLY choice.
Having 7 less points in physical resistance does not make it "drastically worse". :v: You probably won't even notice the difference unless you have your eyes glued to your health meter.
Do you actually think you wouldn't notice the difference between taking some damage and not taking any at all? :v:
I mean yeah 7% damage isn't much but if it's the early game and you're wearing light armour it can start to add up. Blocking 10 hits that would have done ~20% of your health (which is totally not unreasonable) would result in losing about about 15% of your health, so if you're any good you're probably best off rolling I'd say?
Now now, we all know the Iron Round Shield is the best normal shield in DS1.
Of that, there is no dispute. I'll never be not disappointed that they didn't put the Eastern set and the Iron Round Shield in DS2.
Shields are for pussies.
[editline]18th February 2015[/editline]
Shields ain't actually for pussies.
But magic is for pussies.

What does that make the magic shield?
