Times like this I really miss Hellkite Drake. Hope the guy didn't go kill himself or something. In any case, it seems he's quit YouTube for good.
Did they reenable VAC for SotFS? I want to use cheatengine to change my character's name and get around the letter limit, but I don't really feel like getting VAC'd for it.
So, I've made a rather interesting discovery in Scholar of the First Sin. [sp]The Eye Of The Priestess, the item you pick up in the Crown of the Ivory King DLC to let you see the invisible snow tiger boss,[/sp] will also allow you to see and lock on to the crossbow-wielding shades in the foggy Shaded Woods area. No more fear of backstabbing!
So for those of you who don't know (SotFS loot spoilers) [sp] The invader that pops up after the second bonfire in Iron Keep, "Oliver the Collector", has a chance to drop the Minotaur Helm now. Not sure what the probability is, but I got it on my first character with no drop-buffs).[/sp]

aww, that's too bad. I killed him without getting anything. Still, lucky on you, congrats

Definitely a very low probability, tried it with C. Gold Ring +1, Dragon parma, prisoner's tatters, and the traveling merchant hat on a new character, and it didn't drop.
Man, they still haven't changed anything about the DLCs it seems.
I mean they're pretty good but it's kinda ridiculously hard. Seeing as one is able to enter them after killing one of the Giant Soul bosses, they're waaay to difficult.
Went to Iron king DLC and I can only take like 1 or 2 hits from the Soldiers there and that said, I have spent like 35 points in Vigor and I'm wearing heavy armor.
In addition to that they're never alone but always come in packs of mostly 3 at once.
Craftsman's Hammer is love, Craftsman's Hammer is life.
For the low low price of 20 Strength, you too can kill a Ruin Sentinel in 8 swings, and a Belfry Gargoyle in 4!

I don't understand. Iron king's enemies were the easiest to fight, and I have a vigor of 12. 12!
As someone who's never touched Dark Souls 2 on any platform, should I buy the default version and the DLC when it goes on sale, or get Scholar of the First Sin?
A worry of mine is the enemy placement, I don't know if they made it easier or harder or what, and I'd be kind of disappointed I wouldn't play the original version with the original placements. Were the original enemy placements really shitty or something?
I have really been enjoying SOTFS so far, like a lot. Aside from the damn Pursuers stalking me. So Forlorn, right? He invaded me in the Bastille and I wasn't really ready for it. So even though I juuust about got him, he killed me. So am I prettymuch screwed now? Everyone is saying he only invades once in each place he goes, which really sucks. So now that I was unable to kill him in this spot am I just fucked out of getting all the gear from it?

It's well worth getting Scholar in that case. The new placements and stuff have actually been pretty interesting. Some spots are a little harder, and some are actually less frustrating (looking at you Sinner's Rise) but overall it just all seems a bit more interesting. Also, anyone going "oh they just mob you with tons of enemies all the time now whatever" have no idea what they are talking about.

Well, in all honesty having less vigor doesn't really contribute mean much to the situation.
It either meant that you were hit less or killed them with ease.
I'd just ask what's your STR/DEX and what level your weapons are, Iron Knights are practically aluminum wrap if you've got a blunt or thrust weapon on you.

The original might be better. The placement in SotFS is clear that it's made for people who have already played through the game before. I felt that original DS2 had better flow and was more fair to the player, while still being difficult. SotFS is really like a master quest to the original DS2.

I don't think there's a limit to how often the forlorn invade. You should still be able to get all the gear.

Absolutely disaggree. Have you been to Amana and Undead Crypt yet? These areas have been NOTORIOUS, and they are quite fair, the pacing is much better there.
Dragon Aerie is also done much better. The game just doesn't throw at you super unfair enemies like 3 Dragon Knights + 2 Drake Keepers.
Tht being said the only problem I had was Iron Keep and the radar-equipped Alonne Knights.
And lot of bullshit concerning stone spearmen in Drangleic Castle has also been removed.

There are some areas that are better (I've never had an issue with Amana, it was just as easy for me). Dragon Shrine is the one place that I think that had an absolutely amazing change. I think the majority of the areas though just have odd changes. Iron Keep is so much worse now.
I second, that you should get Scholar of the first Sin.
The enemy placement isn't that hard if you switch back to dark souls 1 mode and keep a keen eye on your surroundings instead of just rushing at a mob of enemies as there are now often situations in which you get ambushed if you didn't take enough care.
I also got myself a good blunt weapon for the Iron King DLC now.
Not your beloved craftsman hammer but the far superior looking Blacksmith hammer. :v:
some areas are harder but they got rid of some of the most annoying spawns and there's a lot more npc summons scattered around
Forest of the fallen giants is so much harder though, I don't envy anyone playing dark souls for the first time on the new version
Yeah I feel like the forest is going to just make people flat out not want to play dark souls if they're new, with an ogre right at the entrance then instead of a Heide knight that wouldn't pester you unless you did him in the origional you got like 12 dudes coming at you which is nothing for vets, but for a new player...
That's kinda what I'm getting at. For a new player, SotFS just throws odd shit at you that only an experienced player will be able to manage.

People will realise that you don't need to attack him. He will just chill on the water, it's simple.
People will also realise that if you walk around the amount of soldiers down, only the close one will wake up.
And i'm not saying as a person that has almost 1k hours but it's not this bad as people view, it IS intimidating but same was DeS and Dks1 with the amount of enemies coming at me at start.

This.
People need to think about when they started dark souls 1 for the first time and took a trip to the graveyard because that seemed like the most obvious way. Did that hinder them from playing Dark souls 1?
And that said, Dark souls is not and has never been the kind of game that lends you a helping hand at the start to get you into the game.
You get shat on right from the start and you learn by making mistakes and dying. Over and over again.

I don't think you only learn by dying and trying again. I only died around 20-30 times in my first DS1 playthrough. The environment in that game always gave you a clear understanding about what you're getting yourself into, or would give you enough time that you can react accordingly. Original DS2 didn't do it as well, but almost every situation was manageable for a blind playthrough. There's a lot of situations in SotFS where you can't tell what's coming and it never gives you enough time to react before you're mince meat. To me, the Dark Souls series has always been about "hard but fair." The levels shouldn't be designed around the mindset that the players will learn to go through the level by trial-and-error tactics.

There will be a quite list to say but alright.

Dark Souls 1's early areas usually had you face 2-3 enemies in a small arena, there was always enough room to move around but you were also confined in such a way that you couldn't accidentally aggro more enemies.
On the cliff at Firelink you have a fairly large platform where you fight 2 hollows, with the chance of aggroing a hollow soldier. You are constrained by the cliff wall on one side, the cliff on the other, and the firebombs raining down a the far end. At most you will be fighting 3 enemies at once, and that requires you to head toward the fire bombs.
The area with the first Heide knight was similar in DkS2, you were attacked by 3 enemies and were being shot with arrows, and can trigger one more enemy if you're careless (provided you don't hit the Heide knight but lets assume it's unlikely). You had plenty of room to move around and were almost entirely penned in.
In SotFS if you move around you will face more and more enemies, meaning a player who needs to move around a lot (like a new player) will quickly face overwhelming odds for doing something that the game was previously trying to encourage.
The best change in sotfs is still Sanic the Hollow in Huntsman Copse

And the backstepping torch buddy in No-Man's Wharf.
I have access to a PS3 now. Should I pick up demons souls somewhere for 15$?
What kind of question even is that?
