Dark Souls and Demon's Souls Megathread VI. Katana Gank Squad Edition

Mauldron is probably my favourite NPC invader in all of dark souls, he's smart, he's a pussy for running away and the part where he tried to disguise as a white phantom was hilarious.
That grand lance charge is bullshit though.
Am I the only one who can barely see any graphical difference between DX9 and DX11?
The DoF is nicer, and light sources fall off sharper with a slight reduction in ambient lighting, but that's about it.
Found this yesterday.

Today is the day where I was able to get my revenge.
I ventured to the lowermost bonfire in brume tower and challenged the Fume Knight himself to a duel, just that I was only using Caestus.
And I emerged victorious!
Now I will seek greater strength so that I will one day vanquish the most honorable foe. Lord Lift himself.
Not with that improper spelling. Who is this Lord Lift? I know only

After doing a bunch more PvP using the Sanctum Crossbow I must say, it's actually way more effective than I thought. Something to consider if you only use one weapon slot, it makes for a great sidearm
The way the special attack takes more time to charge and has a faster travel speed than normal blots make a lot of people screw up the timing. It also has far better tracking than normal bolts, so if you roll sideways too early it's still going to hit you. Just make sure you've got plenty of range and if you're lucky, half of the other guy's health is gone. Typically they just start to panic afterwards and you can hit with a second one right after
Played DS1 again. Cleared Quelaag and ready to face the Iron Giant. It's easier than DS2, but it doesn't feel bullshit.
Tried to connect with FNR but the summons wouldn't have it for me (He was getting summoned like crazy though).
Yeah what was up with that
oh my god i am so going to build a double bonefist pvp build this is soooooooooo fun to use
You get better damage and the same moveset with Caestus on your left hand
You get better damage and the same moveset with Caestus on your left hand
what about the powerstance? don't i have to equip two of them
Found a video of someone actually using the sanctum crossbow in pvp, it's more or less how I use it, though I rely on it a lot more often than he does
As you can see it deals a ton of damage even through shields (turtles would typically roll away from spells, but they don't expect so much elemental damage from a crossbow) and rolling sideways at range is a very bad idea

With fists weapons, the powerstance always adopts the one for the right hand.
Which honestly makes it kinda funny when you're launching balls of energy from a crab claw. Which might possibly pierce shields, considering the strong attack on the claws is meant to pierce them. Maybe the attack adopts that, I don't know.
Am I the only one who's having trouble running? half of the time hitting the button does nothing or it takes a second to get going or it waits until the stamina bar fill all the way back up.
Also I've just about finished softs, cant for the life of me find the dragon talon though

If you deplete your stamina, you can't sprint until it refills. Holding the button should make you sprint, there's a slight delay since the sprint button is also the roll button.

If you completely run out of stamina you can't run for about 5 seconds or so
It's not actually tied to the bar refilling

If you are refering to the key to the first DLC, it's behind the locked door in the pit in Majula. You need a key from the Black Gulch to open it.
I tested it in DS2, a good chunk of the bar will refill before you can sprint again. Point is, you need to wait a bit after you deplete the stamina bar before you can sprint again. I THINK in DaS you had to let the entire bar refill(if it would launch, I'd test it).
It's better to sprint until your stamina bar is nearly empty, then to let it recharge before sprinting again. That way you're always able to start sprinting when you need to.

Oh god I opened that thing ages ago. How did I manage to miss it.
IIRC If your stamina runs out you have to wait until it recharges long enough to fill 120% of the bar to sprint again.
Well the good news is I started over because I felt my stats were spread too thin everywhere and I put points into Resistance, which is, by unanimous vote, to be a really crappy stat in DaS 1. So, thinking of what kind of character I want to be, I thought about Solaris again and wanted to be like him: Armored and slinging spells like a pro. Went with Pyromancer because it had the kind of stats I was looking for and began my adventure again. So far, its been pretty smooth sailing. Bosses haven't been giving me a whole lotta trouble, been finding neato stuff like Stone gear. Throwing a lot of strength in to be able to hold huge weapons just so I have something to back me up when my spells are used up. Pyro skills do a fuckton of damage, so it makes clearing groups really easy! I'm almost back to where I started, just about to take on that weird dragon with a bunch of teeth on its chest.
I do have a few questions though.
1: Is adding more attunement slots useful or only to a certain point?
2: Does it matter what kind of armor you're wearing when using magic? Like, are there any spell failures for wearing heavy armor?
3: Is leveling up really worth it in the end due to the ever-increasing soul cost? Like, is it totally necessary to keep going?
4: I managed to get 11 Estus flasks. How did that even happen?
5: Why is fat rolling so funny?
IIRC If your stamina runs out you have to wait until it recharges long enough to fill 120% of the bar to sprint again.
Really? In 1 I can sprint as soon as I have da green juice. I have to check it again.

1. Extra attunment slots can be worth it, some of the best pyromancies take up 2 slots so to have a decent range yuo need a fair few slots.
2. Armour doesn't affect anything to do with casting, just your defensive stats and the equip load increase.
3. All stats have soft caps around 40 where they stop being as effective to level up, level 120 is generally the place people stop levelling though in DaS1 due to it being a general cap on PVP.
4. When people light the bonfire in an area, it gives everyone else also in that area a temporary extra flask.
5. it's not so funny later on.
If anything you can subvert the sprint delay by rolling.
The remaining stamina you have left you can sprint out without any sort of delay, albeit you're probably left with very little at that point anyways so you'd might as well wait it out.

Wait, some spells take up 2 slots? Shit, I need to level my attunement in the future. Also, do you mean people willingly stop leveling at 120 or the game locks you at 120?
I never knew that about the bonfire thing, that's actually pretty rad. Although I'm curious as to why fat rolling stops being funny later. Or is that simply "I've seen this enough times, its annoying now" kind of situation?
The spells that take two slots aren't necessary. You're trading number of casts for power in most cases. It's mostly down to preference. Most people stop levelling at level 110-120 because it gives a wide search range for PvP while also restricting what you can do, you can only reach the soft cap of 2 or 3 stats rather than pumping every stat and having everyone playing what is essentially the same character.
Fat rolling never stops being funny, Smasher is a dirty liar.

It stops being funny because you'll be fighting someone or something with lots of hit frames, and your roll won't carry you through all of them, causing you to be hit and take extra damage from failing to dodge.
whoever thought frigid outskirts was a good idea was wrong on so many levels
the whole fight is amazingly easy now with the extra phantom
