yeah but his electrical butt stomp has always stomped my butt. ornstein is quick but once you get at his knees the fight is mostly over, you just gotta watch carefully for the stomp and the backstep. plus his set is way cooler
Ornstein's set may be cooler, but Smough's set is more hilarious.
His fat pants look great with the Catarina armor.
Alrighty! I managed to get past the fortress of fuck, no thanks tot he countless number of boulders and snake dudes. Iron Giant was..pretty disappointing to fight since all I did was tickle his metal crotch with the lightning spear. Fuck mimics, now I'm super paranoid of treasure chests. Anyway, got abducted to Anor Londo and, just like the Iron Giant, the baddies are huge but really disappointing to fight. At this point, I'm just abusing their trigger mechanics to get hits in.
Got sucked into a painting for some reason, grinded several levels to work on my intelligence because I wanna use Soul Spear. Those weird mutated guys are super annoying to deal though. Had to zap them from afar. Though I guess they're not as bad as those harpy women things..who, by the way, kept throwing themselves off cliffs because of their janky grapple move. Sometimes I'd be minding my own business and I'd grab 1000 souls out of no where. That's how silly they were.
Got to the end, found the giant lady with a scythe, but I decided "fuck that I've heard shit" and got out. On the upside, I found a few neat things. Also FUCK WHEEL SKELETONS HOLY FUCK. Lost like 10 humanity because of them >:C
Anyway, back in Anor Londo and sorta exploring around. Silver Knights are such punks.
You should do a written Let's Play
Oh man that reminds me I've been meaning to do a "pseudo-first time lets play" where at times I purposefully play like shit and talk over it like I'm all frustrated and it's my first time

I look forward to watching you throw yourself at Artorias repeatedly with the drake sword.
I look forward to watching you throw yourself at Artorias repeatedly with the drake sword.
i'll probably use a crystal straightsword and wonder why its doing shit damage 20 minutes later
don't forget to break chests and act confused when all you get out of them is rubbish
Okay, so I got that lordvessel thing and I can zip zap through certain bonfires, thank the sun. Talked to worm dude and now I have to go beat up some guys for their Lord Souls. Cool, hopefully they're not a pain to get to.
Nope, they're a huge pain to get to. I decide the first place I should go is the Catacombs to clonk Nito on the head. Mind you I don't really know what Nito looks like, but there's a ton of skeletons down there so I assumed he had to be a floating skull speaking Beatles lyrics backwards. There were so many skeletons that "OH FUCK SKELETONS" became a mantra. Surprisingly, the Decoy spell was surprisingly effective here! Especially against those fucking wheel skeletons FUCK YOUR WHEELS. Almost died from the random Darkwraith (?) that decided to join the party. Kept telling myself "It can't get worse than a bunch of wheel skeletons". Then I found myself in the Tomb of the Giants.
Holy shit, fuck everything about this place with a rusty spoon. It was something out of a Spike TV title; "Big Skeletons, Small Ledges!" I swear I had a guardian angel watching me because I never fell off the ledges once, but everything wanted me dead. I could barely see their beady little eyes staring at me in the darkness. Not only were there giant melee skeletons, but now giant archer skeletons, with slightly homing arrows that do everything they can to piss you off. Nevermind the bald jerk that boots you down a cliff, he was as much trouble as a child in a crib. Then you have those whatever skeletons on all fours that greet you with "hi you like stamina too bad". Thankfully they were slow but it didn't stop them from being so goddamn creepy to see in the dark. Anyway, fast forward a bit and behold, I find it: Nito.
Instead of being this giant, menacing creature that was focused around the dead like King Leoric of Diablo fame, it was just a bunch of skeletons with a Cher wig. He wasn't frightening at all! He did, however, punch me in the shins with his red blade of dodgemore, but beyond that, he was really not all that hard. Slow, easy to predict, ate my magic like they were poptarts, and died. Bang, I win.

Ah well. 100k souls was a nice find. Fingers crossed for the next fight. Wherever that may be!
Oh, and I killed Pinwheel but he wasn't very challenging.

It's not that annoying, is it? :c
I dunno if he was being sassy but i certainly enjoy reading it.
So about the patch notes from the last page..
Fixed issue whereby weapon durability was decreased drastically when used on enemy corpses, friendly characters, etc. (Especially apparent for users running the game at 60 fps as the durability decrease rate was linked to the frame rate).
Is this confirmed? (Like does anyone see a noticeable difference?)
I really want to get Scholar on PS4 and finally go through all the DLC but I refuse to pick it up until I know it's 100% fixed

Can't tell you with 100% certainty but I was able to use my flamberge build without the sword falling apart in two minutes, so I'm definitely feeling some change.
I have a question.
I, lets say, I have a 'copy' of Dark Souls 2, which is not exactly the the one that you 'pay' through Steam, if I played on that one, will I be able to transfer the save files to the Steam version when I got it?

Why don't you wait to have a legal copy of the game to play it?
Why would you post this on FP?
hey guys remember that patch they threw out to fix talking to shalequoir through walls

and it's still my favorite glitch to this day

If you're fighting skeletons you've gone the wrong way.

Its fairly similar to the second one honestly. You'll notice though that somethings just aren't as polished or possible.
Shields don't really deal any damage so don't even bother being a shield smashing retard, dual-wielding is very niche as weapons have a weaker attack set and only certain weapons really work in the left hand.
There is still a lot of variety but quite a bit less so, things like dual-blades do not exist. Crossbows are far less useful, throwing knives are less useful. You will notice your movement is not smooth like DS2, in DS2 it works like most games, if you tilt your stick a bit, you walk faster and go into a jog smoothly. Dark souls 1 snaps from a walk to a jog.
There is only the flask to heal from but getting more of them is piss easy, just kindle a fire.
Overall, I'd say they are around the same in difficulty though DS1 feels easier, at least to me. Because it has less "gotcha!" gimmicks and instead feels like things I must genuinely learn from, such as an enemy pattern. In other words, you won't really do any awkward movement or jumping that DS2 makes you do at points.

Because I'm away from home currently for another 8 months, so no stable internet connection. I only use prepaid internet, so the volume is limited even though the speed is acceptable.
While waiting to go home to buy the full version, I might as well try the 'demo', to see if it have that much improvement or not. And when I'm able to go home, I'll be able to download the full version from Steam (which is ~18GB, not suitable for download by prepaid). The 'demo' version is all I can get now

Drake sword is the best sword in the game and has a "super" level scaling and high durability

Get to the DLC content asap because it's amazing
Also, if you use light armor, get the Dark Wood Grain Ring and become the Cartwheel God
Also also, I'm only a little ways into DS2 currently, but it seems like a lot less enemies in DS1 use elemental or poison-related attacks. They're mostly consigned to a few areas whereas in DS2 I've seen tons of different status-affecting enemies. So there's no need to worry too much about that if you focus a lot on your gear.
Well, I finally did it. The only games I've ever wanted to platinum are now back on my shelf.

Dark Souls: 9/10
Game: I love this game. DS makes me feel like an adventurer, and it feels like I'm experiencing my own story. Only being able dodge in four directions when locked on sucks after playing Bloodborne and DS2 though. And I'm still disappointed Manus was so easy. (Even on NG+)
Trophy: You have to get to NG++ to get Sif's soul again, but it wasn't too bad. After all this, Chester's set with a dex pyromancer build and akimbo Priscilla's Daggers is now the only way I can play. (FASHION SOULSSS)
Dark Souls 2: 10/10
G: Flawed in some areas, but boasting the best online experience in the series. I have more good memories of DS2 than all the other games because of it.
T: The journey was pretty fun overall. Grinding for sunlight medals protecting nerds from the Fume Knight was surprisingly fun. Grinding the mad warrior because my soul memory was too high to find actual players was not.
Demon's Souls: 8/10
G: Demon's has the best NPC's and atmosphere of all of the games. The gameplay itself is good, but missing the series' later refinements.
T: This trophy will take your entire life to get if you don't use the item dupe glitch. On the positive side, I learned more about world tendency and character tendency by getting the trophy than through both of my earlier playthroughs combined.
Bloodborne: 7/10
G: I'm not sure where I stand on Bloodborne. I feel both satisfied, and completely disappointed. Compared to the previous games, Bloodborne gave me the best single player story experience and the worst online experience. It doesn't have much staying power, so lets hope for DLC soon.
T: It's by far the easiest to get the platinum for.
And sorry for the wall of text. I decided to post in this thread rather than shit up both SoulsBorne threads.
Question: I've been gone from Dark Souls 2 for quite a while and I'm considering buying it on Steam. However, the stories I've heard about the difficulties with controlling the game with mouse and keyboard has made me wonder if it's possible to find some piece of software that'll allow me to use my Xbox 360 controller (wireless, by the way).
Anyone know such a thing?
so far i have played for an hour and i kinda feel like ds2 did it better, it felt more sleek movement wise
edit: i don't feel like i have full control over my character
I've been jumping between Dark Souls 1 and 2 myself recently, and I think that Dark Souls 1 might just win out overall for me, surprisingly. Despite how drastically improved the mechanics are in 2, there's something more... Charming, about how it all comes together in 1. The story, the atmosphere, the world, certain little quirks with the mechanics... I can't quite put it all into words yet, I just know that I feel so much more enchanted while playing 1.
I don't think the mechanics were improved at all in Dark Souls 2. Weapons had much less variety in their movesets, rolling in any direction is a hindrance more than a benefit in most situations due to the unreliability of it, the movement feels much clunkier and I can't understand how people think it's smoother, and the timings for when attacks deal damage are pretty fucked on a lot of non-humanoid enemies.

I feel mostly the same way, up until I get to Anor Londo. That is usually were I start to burn out on DS1 and I feel like just making another character instead of continuing the meh end game.
I've actually only beaten NG+ once in DS1, but beaten DS2's NG+ multiple times. I just think that while DS1 has a stronger start and has more "soul"(Fight me) than DS2, I enjoy playing DS2 more as a game.
I hated those big delayed strong attacks that some weapons had in DS1, honestly.

Oddly enough I'm almost the other way around. I get even more into if after Anor Londo, but that's probably because my favorite Dark Souls pastime is collecting weapons and armor, and once you have the lordvessel you're free to roam and collect and farm as much as you want, wherever you want. That's probably why I'm loving my Abyss Greatsword run, I can use pretty much every weapon in the game. :v:
