I don't think the mechanics were improved at all in Dark Souls 2. Weapons had much less variety in their movesets, rolling in any direction is a hindrance more than a benefit in most situations due to the unreliability of it, the movement feels much clunkier and I can't understand how people think it's smoother, and the timings for when attacks deal damage are pretty fucked on a lot of non-humanoid enemies.
Ds2 plays at 60 fps, the weapons have larger movesets meaning you can do more with a single weapon (heavy/light sprint attacks, etc) and you can actually duel wield weapons in the game now instead of that shit that happened in ds1. Rolling is far more effective if you actually play it right (shields are shit in ds2, but rolling is the way to go, it's the opposite for ds1). DS1 movement is clunky as shit in comparison, I've now idea how you can say that :v: if rolling was as awful as it was then how can I roll away basically every enemy in the game? Spells included? are you rolling right when they attack or just before they hit? what is your agility? You want it at around 100 so that rolling is more effective.
Also am I the only one really disappointed that they oversized all the ultra greatswords in Dark Souls 2? The zweihander's realistic size coupled with the sheer amount of weight your character puts into the swings made it a super satisfying weapon in Dark Souls 1, it felt like it was heavy shit. In Dark Souls 2 it just feels silly. For the size of the greatsword in 2, the amount of force put into the swings would suggest it's made out of balsa wood or something.

Same thing with rolling, far less animation sets, but far easier at least
I figured out why the UGS animations were better in DS1. Its cause the torso starts turning before the arms do, giving the weapons a good weighty feel.
Dark souls 1 is a more memorable experience imo, the drake bridge, solaire, the skeleton graveyard, O&S, sen's fortress all kicked my ass at least once whereas in DS2 everything felt kind of generic
I really miss how the character would guard with the UGS with both hands placed in a different manner. In DS2 you're just holding the hilt with both hands while in DS1 one is holding the hilt while the other would place the hand on the blade. It gave a better guard looking stance. But i still enjoy UGS in DS2, they do feel a bit faster due to their sped up and short torso movement (except 1 handed which it's silly since you barely move at all)

All three games have some pretty generic content, but they have some unique areas. And if you played Demon's before Dark 1, it does all feel pretty samey. The drake bridge is cut straight from Demon's. Neat: Tower of Latria, Lost Izalith, Crystal Cave, Sen's, Ash Lake, Black Gulch, Dragon Shrine, Dragon Aerie, Heide's, Eleum Loyce Not neat: All of world 1 in Demon's, Darkroot Garden, The Catacombs, Undead Asylum, The Depths, Lower Undead Burg, most of New Londo, etc..
I'd put New Londo in neat simply because of how goddamn unsettling the literal hills of half-decayed, moistened corpses that make sickly crunching noises as you step over them. The genocide felt real visceral thanks to that. My stomach churns just thinking about how that place must smell. That would be the most disgusting water ever.
yeah but NEW LONDO WATERPARK THO

DS2's way is just lazy 'cuz it uses the same animation for guarding with a greatsword.

A pity for DS2. On the topic of memorable areas\characters , in DeS i personally loved Boletaria's level, it was simple yet it felt atmospheric. Tower of Latria amazed me as well. Garl Vinland was such a cool character (the only thing that bothered me was his line "We live humble lives" near goddamn PLAGUE BABIES ), Biorr had me laughin everytime i was with him and damn he's strong, Miralda and Yuria who is the most rational and cute person that you've ever met along with the Maiden in Black. For Dks1, Anor Londo is my first area to remember and love it just because i live in Milan and there's the Duomo cathedral (which Anor Londo was inspired to) plus my favourite blacksmith giant. Darkroot's Sif area and Artorias' arena, can't stop droolin' even if i'm not a fan of the Darkroot's place simply because it's just a forest and only the graveyard is something noticeable, for Oolacile sort of the same but it had sweeet characters like Chester, Elizabeth, Ciaran, Gough, Artorias and Manus. Aside them, Sieglinde and Siegmeyer are characters that will make me sad whenever i think of them. Solaire is also a great person and at least you can save him. For Dks2, Shrine of Amana got my guard off because i wasn't really expecting it. Undead Crypt illuminated to the path of Velstadt: the Leydia statues were something. I enjoyed the Sotfs Dragon Shrine now, the amount of black dragon enemies doing the duel bow and watching over you gave me a new vision to the place (and free black dragon weapons, scales and awestones too :v: ). Living the past during the battle against the Giants with non hollowed soldiers, OIK's Ironclade soldiers... i really enjoyed it, something that you didn't happen to experience in DeS, Dks1 and neither in BB. The Fume Knight's area which it's inside of a giant ash Old Knight, Sir Alonne's arena and the whole Eleum Loyce followed by Old Chaos.
For Dks1, Anor Londo is my first area to remember and love it just because i live in Milan and there's the Duomo cathedral (which Anor Londo was inspired to) plus my favourite blacksmith giant.
We milanesi should get together for a DkS contest :v:

Anyone got some sweet ol tips/tricks for the Rat Authority whatever big dog in pharros land in Dark Souls 2? I've been able to get through every boss so far with usually around 3 or less retries on each, but this dog is fucking massacring me every time. Most of the time I can't get away but also can't get close enough to hit?? Fuck this dog man

Fuck this dog man
His attacks are kinda delayed, so you gotta time your rolls just right and roll under him, beat the shit out of his legs, repeat
Also be sure to kill the small ones first or you'll get stunlocked by them and murdered by the big guy. Also DS_ was right, just stay under him.
Goddamn I can't stand this oversized fucking spider Black Knight Greataxe's arc sucks dogshit vs the little fuckers. I always end up eating a tasty spiderleg when trying to get the little guys. And if I kite them out of the legs, I eat a laser beam (???)

There's a summon somewhere in the spider lair before the boss.

If you still insist solo, just try to kill the spiders one by one and hit the boss while baiting its laser.
That looks like a fancy patterned rug.
One I'd love to use as a shag carpet.
Asking again.
Question: I've been gone from Dark Souls 2 for quite a while and I'm considering buying it on Steam. However, the stories I've heard about the difficulties with controlling the game with mouse and keyboard has made me wonder if it's possible to find some piece of software that'll allow me to use my Xbox 360 controller (wireless, by the way). Anyone know such a thing?

Asking again.
You can just get an official wireless adapter for Xbox 360 controllers and everything will work out of the box and it'll be compatible with literally everything.
Asking again.
Xbox controllers just work natively? If you're asking how to use a 360 controller wirelessly you can get a dongle. For the record anyhow, I played both with a mouse and keyboard although with DS1 it takes a couple of mods
