You can easily walk across most of the map with enough time to help settlements. Time travel skips a lot of time in all Bethesda games so it kind of warps the perception of how long it actually takes to walk on foot from one location to the next.
So wait if survival is going to disable fast travel what the fuck is bethesda going to do with the "Help out settlement X" quests? There is probably going to be no way to travel back to most far out settlements in time to help defend without the vertibird, so unless they change the way uninterrupted raids are handled it will be nearly impossible to build proper settlements.
i think one time i was building at Murkwater and got the notification to defend Outpost Zimonja. i managed to get there in time without fast travel or Vertibird. i also didn't try to rush past combat, i took the time to pacify each area. but i did leave pretty soon after getting the pop-up. i think it's somewhere around a real world hour's worth of ingame time before a settlement defense resolves. so whatever the conversion is, if fast traveling puts you above that number of ingame hours, you don't make it. the exception being that a defense will postpone itself it you travel directly to the cell, so that you don't fast travel there for nothing.
gonna put silencers on all my weapons and become sneaking master for survival mode. also give myself the traveling leather coat and assault gas mask so i can make my char a stalker. CHEEKI BREEKI IV DAMKE
[t]http://i.cubeupload.com/uzs4XW.png[/t] Now if only I could get a Fat Man with that.
I'm gonna break your heart a little bit... To my knowledge, instigating effect does not apply to explosion damage. I know this because I HAD an instigating fatman at one point, but it didn't do any additional damage at all.
My favorite missile launcher is irradiated. Found one, called it "dirty bomber" and just used it to spam crowds of human mooks. I think basically if they are in range to take any damage from the explosion they'll just receive 50/100 rads on top of that, which can be pretty crippling to people at the edge of the blast radius.
I think I made a grave mistake. I downloaded Spring Cleaning and Homemaker and...
wait how do you do the workshop that far out
I'm pretty sure he created all that within the settlement. Homemaker adds all of those things you see as construction pieces.
Ah, I see I'm not the only one who digs the Leather Coat + Assault Gas Mask combo. [t]http://i.imgur.com/K9lLJs0.jpg[/t] Shit looks good.
that was what I wore through 90% of the game except for when I got power armor.
This new 'no fast travel' thing is going to kill me. My main and favourite character's home is at fucking spectacle island. So I'll have to swim there every time and get absolutely swamped with radiation. :((
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Aquaboy
Ok, here goes. This is my Sanctuary right now: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/vqmdCmw.jpg[/thumb] The building below the main structure contains my room, the cooking area, some kind of living room and the crafting garage. Behind it you have the farm area: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/Y6PAHAH.jpg[/thumb] Going inside, the first floor is a small shopping area: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/7X9WjDn.jpg[/thumb] And above it the bar: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/H994vp4.jpg[/thumb] And the barracks: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/nuIip8X.jpg[/thumb] The next building over is the workshop: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/dFjQh2k.jpg[/thumb] Below are the resource collection stations: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/fmoMDvY.jpg[/thumb] And above is the power armor garage: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/xSJNFxA.jpg[/thumb] Everything is still WIP, of course.
Love the attention to detail in the bar. Looks very cosy.
Love the attention to detail in the bar. Looks very cosy.
Thanks. The pictures were taken at night so she's off duty, but there's usually a bartender behind the counter. This helped: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4027/?

For whatever reason, after completing the quest for Blake Abernathy, Preston teleported in and it triggered Taking Independence (which I'd already completed). It started and completed itself twice. :what: [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/25802995/ShareX/2016/02/2016-02-25_00001.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/25802995/ShareX/2016/02/2016-02-25_00002.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/25802995/ShareX/2016/02/2016-02-25_00003.jpg[/t]
Specifically for the last 3 quests of the minutemen I would always get Taking Independence after completing each one.
Y'know, with all those mods out there that increase the budget for settlements or unlimit it entirely, I have an inkling of what people should attempt: [t]http://www.deconcrete.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Kowloon-Cross-section-low.jpg[/t] [editline]25th February 2016[/editline] Kowloon Motherfucking Walled City
Game crashes after making one block.
Wowsa, for anybody who finds their performance chugging, I did a bit of DRAM overclocking and it's quite surprising how much F4 is influenced by a few extra 100's mhz of memory speed. Went from 1800 mhz to 2000 mhz and I've seen a good 4-5 fps increase in some of the more performance intensive areas.
Ok, here goes. This is my Sanctuary right now:
Can the NPCs actually use any of this properly? The pathfinding in FO4 is wonky as fuck, especially when it comes to the settlement stuff.
I'm really looking forward to the the new survival mode and DLC. The game just isn't challenging at level 40+, and it's only challenging early because they do so much damage and stims are rarer. Honestly, I've always wanted no quick save and no fast travel, like in Skyrim, because it makes decisions more permanent. I don't have the self control to just "not do it" or mod it, but I feel if they add it as an official mode I'll do it.
Even Boston Common?
Never had a huge issue there actually. My bunker hill settlement was really starting to chug (down to 43 fps or so) and an increase to DRAM frequency seems to have edged up the average framerate quite a bit, rarely goes less than 49 fps. (at 3840x1620)

What does everybody think the best legendary modifiers are for certain weapon categories, and armor are? For armor, I personally think Powered is pretty damn good, since the AP regeneration speed gets incredibly fast if you stack it. For unarmed and melee, Furious pretty much beats the rest of the modifiers no contest.
for that disgusting gamespeed tied to fps thing the game has going on.
It's not though. Or rather I think it's that control input has poor latency at low fps. Back when I was attempting to play at 5120x2160 I hard-capped my FPS at 30, and the game *speed* is fine, but I definitely noticed some sort of harsh input lag. Very nice for knifey-stabby characters, you can just dance around people at breakneck speed poking them with pickmans blade until they keel over

As far as armor goes, I've never really bothered with legendary items. The bonuses seem very specific and often don't suit my playstyle (and if they do, it's usually a leather armor piece when I'm using full combat armor). I prefer armor mods over legendary modifications.
