I love how they made the castle walls exactly the right width to allow you to (oh so satisfyingly) slot in concrete blocks to plug the gaps. You can see it best on the left and at the top of this shot:

I didn't really pay much attention to the settlement building until doing the castle quest towards the end of the game. I instantly thought "this could be really cool". Unfortunately I ran into the size limit very quickly so the above pic is as far as it got.

eh the concrete walls dont exactly like to fit there, plus stacking them is a pain in the ass, there should have been an option to fill in the walls, or at least plug them with an actual cement model, nobody's going to put in a backdoor on the castle, its a fucking castle!
That could be an excuse to travel back to the Mojave. Cabbot hires you again to help/protect him on his trip there.
[sp] cabbot is going to die within months or maybe a year after you finish the quest if you kill lorenzo, if you side with lorenzo well...he's going to take over some place so....[/sp]
In terms of "good" Legendary weapons, I've found an Explosive 10mm Pistol, a Kneecapper Laser Rifle and as of last night a Two Shot Combat Shotgun. Its a good thing that modding the game is a thing, because MMO style random "boss" loot in a single player game just screams "using OCD to artificially extend play time".
yesterday I found a junkie's gauss rifle immediately after taking the perk that removes addictions
first for curie best waifu companion
After seeing the Dunwich Quarry and doing the Cabbot questline, I SUPER DUPER DUPER POOPER SCOOPER hope that we get a nice sizeable DLC that's entirely Lovecraft! Maybe in Arkham since we are in Mass.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did that. The Dragonborn DLC was very much Lovecraft inspired.

Name it "Rail Rider"' for shits.
At first I thought that settlement building was stupid and thought if I wanted to build houses and shit i'd play the Sims
2 hours later and now i have changed my mind
Also, do you unlock more building items through a perk or something?

Yeah, you have to get local leader perks to set up supply lines to other settlements, and to place stores and workstations. Some objects are locked to "Picket Fence" magazines you find in the game. Others, like the first aid stations, require the medic perk.
We should have a "Facepuncher mods" section on the OP like the Elder Scrolls thread does/did.
So, I've encountered a bug where the minuteman who's supposed to be operating the radio at the castle refuses to do so anymore. He says the power's out but it has the 10 power it needs, he just won't sit down.
How do I fix this?

build another generator
some of the power is being diverted to a water purifier out back

there are magazines that let you unlock more building items but other than that you have to go mods

I have 115 power and am only using 71 :unimpressed:
Also my wiring setup is a cyclical mesh, so something coming unplugged in one sector or another shouldn't affect it
[editline]t[/editline]
Like I said, it HAS power. I've rebooted the whole grid several times to make sure. The settler icon is red because he won't sit down and do his job, is the problem.

I think small settlements like these are much nicer than those huge mega-settlements you see. I prefer settlements that look lived in, that you might actually find wandering around
I just looked at the VA list for FO4 and noticed theres more than 3 VAs.
That's awesome, I hope somebody makes a flashlight attachment for all the base game's weapons.
That and laser sights, and thermal scopes so we can go full tacticool.

You'd like how I did up the castle then. I've done a LOT more work since taking these, but the arrangement is the same. Compact, cozy and lived-in.

Update on 10INT/10END build: still having fun on Survival. Only perks I have are Nerd Rage, Solar Powered and Lifegiver. Spent 18 levels getting Strength and Charisma to 10.
I decided to only get perks I think are interesting or add new mechanics (Nerd Rage, Power Train, Local Leader, etc). The rest will go into SPECIAL. I'm actually enjoying the game a lot more without the damage perks, makes all my weapons equal, and I've been carrying more weapons with me as a result
Boston Common more like The Lagging Sea haha amirite
ok but seriously can anyone here actually maintain 60 fps in Boston Common or have they not invented God's graphics card yet
but in those games you had skill-based perks to make up for the lack of SPECIAL based ones, hence why vanilla New Vegas has 88 perks and Fo4 only has about 39 (give or take) when you subtract the ones that just make up for the removal of skills, like lockpicking or the one that's literally called "sneak". so if anything it's even more ridiculous because it means they took out skills but didn't bother to make SPECIAL based perks to compensate
Fallout New Vegas had a bunch of perks that were just increase damage with X or Y type of weapon yet they were still counted as regular perks, I don't see why the similar perks in FO4 should not be counted.
Not to mention all the perks added via magazines and not obtained by leveling up.

The only place that dips and remains below 60 for me is the rooftops of the corvega assembly plant.

How far does it dip and what are your specs?
How far does it dip and what are your specs?
Geforce 970, Core i5 4570, 8gb Ram, Windows 7.
Everything on ultra, with the exception of Shadow Distance (set on Medium) and Godrays (also set on medium). Ambient Occlusion is also disabled for personal taste but turning it on doesn't seem to alter performance.
View Distance is all at maximum but Object Detail Fade is on High, not Ultra.
Game runs perfectly, the few hiccups are tied to my hard drive and not to my specs. The performance dips at places like the corvega plant rooftops are rarely below 30, I haven't checked if the latest beta patch resolves it. It seems to be an anomaly since going to other tall buildings like trinity tower or boarding the prydwen doesn't seem to cause similar drops.

There's a pretty easy way to infinitely increase the size limit in game.
Drop a bunch of objects out of your inventory into the settlement. I prefer large guns because it makes the next part easier. Then go into workshop mode, highlight the dropped objects, and store them in the workshop inventory. You should notice your settlement size bar decreasing, since the game thinks you're cleaning up already existing clutter.
Bam, you can now add more stuff! Just take the objects out of the workshop inventory, drop them, and store them again as needed for more space.
my frames only dip randomly and inconsistently. Normally it's because of something else running on the computer
I've read it only works with weapons, and that's the only thing I've tried. I'm not sure pulling other objects out of your inventory and storing them in workshop via build mode would still work, but I haven't tested that.

Should do this with caution. Supposedly if settlements are too big it causes the already somewhat unstable game to shit itself and commit suicide.
Specifically, it can crash the game when that settlement loads, either by fast travel or walking.
You have to get to like, 2.5x a settlement's normal size constraint for that to be an issue though.
