So assuming I ever stop fucking restarting and actually try to finish the game, what faction do you guys recommend? I'm thinking the Railroad, but I'm not sure.
Also I can't do a Minutemen ending cause I disabled Preston.

yes man
yes man
there is no yes man, he's all the way over there
I was hoping that if Beth ever added hardcore mode features, it would be separate to survival mode, or at least an extension of survival mode with additional combat modifiers. The fact New Vegas's hardcore mode didn't affect combat was good imo, it doesn't relegate you to playing bulletsponges: the mode if you wanna eat or drink
But, this is the exact reason we have mods. Am excite.
The problem with that is that the first two Fallouts (to the best of my knowledge) and New Vegas didn't have main quest-important followers, plus the fact that New Vegas had a failsafe in the form of Yes Man, plus the fact that NPCs can die without the player lifting a finger.
What happens if say, Nick gets killed before I get to the [sp]Memory Den and get into Kellogg's memories[/sp] because he refuses to wear anything besides his DR 5 trench coat? Or if Dogmeat dies because he's a friggin dog? No more main quest for me, then? Or what if say, I clear out a multiple-story bombed out house and then leave, but then my follower's pathing fucks up because the pathing in this game is awful and they walk right out the hole in the wall, and die from fall damage? Or hell, what if one of the important BoS characters falls off the Prydwen?
I dislike essential NPCs as much as you do, in fact I hate them, don't get me wrong, but there is a reason for it to exist, and there needs to be some combination of additional writing, the protected status, and failsafes if you wanna get rid of it.
dont make the main quest reliant on companion NPCs? it's not that hard
maybe nick's secretary could give you a hint to follow kellog's lead. he definitely didn't need to bring dogmeat out of nowhere to trace his cigar, it could easily be something else. just because i understand the npcs being essential in F4 because they're part of the main quest doesn't mean i have to agree with it. Vic is part of the main quest in F2 and he still can die horribly.

it's weird because bethesda added an alternate way to trigger the main quest if you bypassed Piper by going into the memory den. why couldn't the main quest be loaded with alternate paths like this, that open up whenever someone dies that you'd usually need to progress.
then all they'd have to do is make one essential NPC like Yesman in order to allow players to complete the game in the most bare-bones way possible.
Oh god.
That would be preston in this case.
I take it all back.

i'd do the railroad. I had an enjoyable time siding with them though i haven't actually done any others besides them
towards the final mission they toss you [sp]the railroad rifle[/sp] which was pretty neat as well.
imo they're the most easily "likeable" in regards to what they're trying to achieve and I personally find the faction characters to be a little more compelling than others. I don't necessarily like the brotherhood all that much in general either so

Brotherhood if you're done with settlements and being ultra good, and want to be ambiguously good, but you're not sneaky enough to do a railroad play.
Ad Victorium, now to purge the wasteland of unclean filth!
i'd do the railroad
heh
Railroad it is then. Probably go for the Brotherhood next time

Have fun working with the Institute.
At the end of Preston's crisis scene, he should be all like
Before I go, there's another settlement that needs your help. I'll mark it on your map.
*marks "hell" at the southernmost end of the map*

No, it should mark it at the glowing sea bomb crater and when you get there the quest completes and gives you -10 xp. :v:
No, it should mark it at the glowing sea bomb crater and when you get there the quest completes and gives you -10 xp. :v:
And when you come back you find Preston making good on his suicidal thoughts
I can't bring my self to watch any of the crisis scenes.
Even Preston's.

Her character is literally Jack from Mass Effect 2 if Jack's character NEVER developed and there was no sympathetic backstory to allow us to let the punk rebel behavior pass a bit. Cait's backstory is she was treated as shit by her parents, that's why she's a hardcore bitch. By the end of the game's plot, she's still a punk rebel saying the same kind of crap.
At least the chef from New Vegas was humorous with the "shitty family" thing.
Hey, so I got a new graphics card, and now Fallout 4 won't launch, it loads for a moment, but doesn't even get to the intro video before it closes. What do.
After spending time trying to find the right values (or somewhat decent) i could finally make it close to the concept art look

Its nowhere near of being finished, but at least looks better
also, i really have more fun breaking things rather than playing the game (like radiant quests or other dumb shit)
Did you uninstall your old drivers and install new ones?
Always do a clean driver install when you get new hardware
And try to "reset" fallout 4's graphical settings if you can. Delete some .txt's and then verify game cache.
Yep, newest drivers installed, and deleted my Fallout4 config and preferences .ini files.

It looks so much better with the eyes like that now. I always thought that the un-illuminated version looked like a high quality chinese knock off because of the eyes.
What GPU did you switch to?
You maaay have to reinstall fallout 4, but I wouldn't until you've tried everything else first
I figured it out, I had an ENB .dll installed that was ruining things.

Not to defend Cait cause trust me i am not. Did any companion have any character development?
I mean what ever happend in there story's by the end of it they acted exactly the same as before and made the same comments and mostly the same opinions,
with the exception of Cait's new found hatred of all drugs.
Nick and Deacon have a lot of development regarding their relation with the player.

Nick Valentine and... well actually just Valentine
Not all companions were created equal, hell half of them son't even have their own quests
Out of thirteen characters, five have a personal quest. The ones who don't have a quest typically still take a quest to get to them, with the exception of codsworth and dogmeat.
Maybe it would be cool if there were quests given by Codsworth where he asks you to visit places he wanted to see before the bombs fell and he gave you insight of the place
"I've always wanted to go see Abernathy farm. But please be careful sir. I hear the area is quite dangerous. People get kidnapped from there all the time."
