i liked druggy Cait i hated sober Cait she became such a square sober
There's a lesson to be learned here
Has anyone else noticed that when Cait says "arse" it just sounds... wrong?
I swear to god I just can't bring myself to like Cait no matter how much I want to max the confidence levels
She's just such a dense motherhubbard
Has anyone else noticed that when Cait says "arse" it just sounds... wrong?
SERIOUSLY!
Like what fucking Irish or English person goes around saying FOOKIN SHITE or ARSE all the time?
Answer no real Irish person, just freeze dried Irish Stereotypes.
Well looks like I'm the odd one out here. I like Cait. I actually like her accent.
Well looks like I'm the odd one out here. I like Cait. I actually like her accent.
But it's about as real as Lucky the Leprechaun's.

I like Cait too, actually sounds like someone I know
[editline]12th February 2016[/editline]
not the level of slang but the voice itself, which is weird cos they sounds fake irish but it's their real voice :v:
"We'd move along faster if you kept your eyes on the road and off me ARSE"
-Cait implying anyone is looking at her ass

You're not the only one. I like Cait, but I like Hancock/Nick/Piper more. I've yet to try MacCready.
I remember when I found Cait in the Arena, I was like, "Hey it's the lady from the trailer, cool." and then I was informed she'd be a companion. Then I heard her speak and left her there.
I've played the game for 250 hours and she's still there.
"We'd move along faster if you kept your eyes on the road and off me ARSE"
-Cait as she's sitting in a settlement and not actually going anywhere
It's unintended, mostly because she keeps GETTING IN MY LINE OF FIRE.

Curie's version of that is so much better
"I notice a lot of people stare at me. Is there something wrong with my backside?"
Not to defend Cait cause trust me i am not. Did any companion have any character development?
I mean what ever happend in there story's by the end of it they acted exactly the same as before and made the same comments and mostly the same opinions,
with the exception of Cait's new found hatred of all drugs.
Preston has a nice character, whose voice actor being an amateur actually added to the performance.
Nick has a nice development with his quest despite slapping your hand if you so much as ask for any money in a world where Adam Smith wants to rape your wallet dry.
Danse is an interesting father figure when it comes to his men, despite his hatred of Non-Humans, but that's expected of a BoS soldier, so it's not out of character. And with Billy I'm sure he was nicer because Billy, despite being a Ghoul, was still a child.
Decon also has a nice backstory, and funny Nick Cage-esque voice acting to boot.
MacCready's Merc character has an excuse because of his backstory which I won't spoil.
Those are character's that have good character and some development over the course of the game.
Everyone is either a literal character, they don't develop well, or in the case of X6, he's literally just a cold hearted, calculating killing machine that cares only for whatever advances the Institute's goals.

Curie is another problematic companion for me.
For a scientist robot, she sure as hell acts like a ditzy french maid.
Like she might as well be wearing a Nexus quality maid dress.

I still think X6 was a wasted opportunity, for a game partially centered around Syths and Syths who break their programming X6 could have been a great insight to what being a Syth is like.
My personal choice of a character arc would have been for X6's experiences in outside world to slowly change him, with the Wanderer given the option to help him break his programming or possibly to re-enforce the Institute's mantra.
Hell his personal quest could have been having the PC either extract a locator chip in his head so he can wander the Commonwealth as a free man or possibly force him into the SRB and watch him be wiped.
But X6 is supposed to be a quick and efficient synth, not some faulty one like Nick or a pre-war AI like Curie.
If he started breaking his programming he wouldn't even be around to begin with.
And like all other companions, going with him and following his faction implies you agree with his motives and the faction he follows.

I already give her a feather duster for this explicit purpose. But in the interest of fairness, I also gave one to Codsworth, but he still complains about not having one.

I was disappointed that there was no line recorded for if you do give her a feather duster. I picked one up specifically because she mentioned dusting things while exploring and tossed it over her way but alas...
i wouldn't put it past beth to add lines as time goes by
they did it with skyrim companions eventually

That's actually a pretty good idea, and would definitely add something to X6 that he feels like he's missing. Having him reveal some more personal doubts about his Synth nature to the player as they get closer would be awesome, with the player being able to influence him one way or another. It would also be a good way to allow X6 to continue to serve the player if they go against the institute, which is going to be the case 3/4 times.
Honestly I like that there's a synth who doesn't go against their programming for once, but to make him less boring you could have seen him (and maybe other coursers) actively reinforce his own indoctrination when he runs into stuff contrary to it. Like his brain manipulates its own input, modifies or cuts out details that could be dangerous to his programming, and when that becomes impossible as he builds up more and more experiences contrary to his brainwashing, he starts to go slightly nuts as the two spheres of his brain try to override each other.
That way you could encourage him to turn against the Institute without having to go with the stock "he grew a heart" arc - you just propose a way he could fix himself, and through his time with you he comes to value himself enough to do it out of self-preservation. So he's still pretty much incapable of empathy through the whole arc, you're just able to manipulate him into being your personal enforcer. Pull a Preston Garvey of your own.
X6 does have character. I maxxed the affinity for him, and he said he looked up to my character
I actually like X6 primarily because he's a good example of the idea synths appear like nothing more than human-like machines that can expertly mimic sapience. He doesn't deviate from what he was programmed or trained to do, and it just reminds me of how easily any synth can be manipulated into fulfilling a role that involves wearing a certain personality.
Having him want to change his views and opinions on the Institute like that would just reinforce how damn easy it is for synths to be altered.
I don't know, I thought X6 showed the opposite of the synth-as-human-like-but-not emotionaless machine. He was obviously wearing a mask of cold detachment, but in his admiration speeches, he kept slipping, or curse about something, and the mask would slip a little. He just needed more time, which, as a late game companion, he didn't have.

This is one of the main reasons I really wanted to see more out of X6. He does have some pretty well written moments of admiration towards you that seemed like they were leading somewhere. Even if it wasn't full on dissent from the institute, I honestly thought the end of his companion plot line would be him at least questioning if his position as a synth was right.
Another cool way to explore X6 would be to have him unable to leave the institute, and have the only influence the player can make be how they console X6 about his place as a synthetic lifeform.
But X6 doesn't seem that distraught or even bothered about being a synth and seems to genuinely like his place in the institute.
Definitely, so why not do something more with that? X6's role as a companion is so shallow compared to some of the other companions, and this is a theme that runs through a lot of the companions that have potential.
Just feels weak not having any development, like, what-so-ever. Him going from being indifferent to you to liking you just feels like it's not using the potential of a Synth companion, especially one that reveres you for [sp] being Father's Father. [/sp]
So I'm probably late on this, but I just noticed if you fight raiders near boston common, they have about 2 or 3 lines about swan. "Leave him be, let swan get him" "don't bother just let swan take him out"
not the exact quotes cos my memory is bad, but pretty nifty
