Anyone else feel plasma weapons are sorely underused by AI despite being the single most flexible weapon type in the game? I've only ever seen one enemy use a plasma weapon, and it was a legendary gunner who only had it because said plasma weapon was their legendary drop.
That and I turned wetness off because it made everyone look like they were either saran wrapped or in a bukakke. I actually haven't come across one gunner group WITHOUT a plasma weapon with them.
I turned that off because holy fuck, WHY. No seriously, WHY.
Wait, you can turn off environment maps? How?
Wait, you can turn off environment maps? How?
Screen Space Reflections. In the options menu. Or at least I believe that's it. Also I'm just now realizing that I had no helmet equipped, but the game was still showing the helmet rain/vignette effect [editline]19th January 2016[/editline]
lol Try doing Confidence Man and accidently hit someone in the Dugout Inn, everyone starts shooting Travis.
I've pissed off a lot of people by jumping off ledges that were slightly too high for my power armor to handle
Also I'm just now realizing that I had no helmet equipped, but the game was still showing the helmet rain/vignette effect
Yeah it does that no matter what. Again, it's like they didn't have the thought. [editline]19th January 2016[/editline]
I've pissed off a lot of people by jumping off ledges that were slightly too high for my power armor to handle
lol I forgot I could do that, and after the Directorate meeting I jumped down the center of their spiral walkway, then I got banished from the institute because I hurt a random synth sentry that was nearby. [editline]19th January 2016[/editline] I wish while in power armor, you could straight up intimidate human enemies by how you conduct yourself. Basically I want to be able to walk up to raiders while bullets are pinging off my armor and when I walk up to them while they're reloading, say boo or some shit and make them run off. Same for if they're encountering a threat they can't see that is hurting them through stealth, I'd honestly want to see them run away to cover than try to search for me. I mean for fucks sake, you're receiving silenced sniper fire, first idea is to run towards the bullets?
Wait, you can turn off environment maps? How?
I know you can turn off screen space reflections, but not environment maps as far as I know. The "wetness" effect is something different, it basically just modifies the gloss value of everything, which isn't really how "wetness" should be done, or rather it's just a crude approximation. Anyways, what I was referring to though is this: [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/dGBjAU.jpg[/t] PBR is supposed to use a dynamic reflection probe to cast reflections. A secondary camera captures a low-res, low-detail equirectangular reflection map of the area immediately surrounding the player's camera, then the game's shaders use that image as the environment map (ie: their reflections). Fallout 4, on the other hand, just uses a single canned reflection environment that's always the same regardless of where you are, which is a really, really shitty way to do it, and is utterly counter-intuitive to the entire principle of a PBR shading system, which is generally where objects actually cast reflections of their immediate surroundings. The entire point of PBR is a means of visual quality-control by having a shading system that behaves in a predictable, unified and automatic manner. All the objects in the scene use the same reflection probe and you get 100% consistency in the lighting and shading in every scene. If you just manually assign a unique canned reflection to each individual object in the game, that's the exact opposite of consistency and automation, it's utterly counter-intuitive to the entire point of PBR rendering, which is to have predictable and plausible shading that responds to it's surroundings. So for clarification, I was saying that this is going to be really problematic for DLCs and mods that take place in areas other than the commonwealth, because we'll still be seeing that exact same reflection even if we're standing in the middle of a snow-covered anchorage. It'll look really weird and jarring.
I just heard the perfect way of describing bethesda games "lots of content without content"

Yep, I guarantee you can't unsee it now. Sorry :v:
This is the type of shit I'd expect the Institute to come up with.

the armor quality is very descent it comes with 4k textures
*Internal screaming intensifies* I mean typo aside, :suicide: I honestly thought this 4k thing was a joke
4K mods are mostly for screenarchery; a lot of people on the Nexus are into that kind of thing (some of it is even good!). That and less knowledgeable people who greatly overestimate their PC.
both engines have cubemap support, in this case it's just how they're used
It has cubemap support (:quotes:), as in there are pre-baked cubemaps in the game files, and it can cast them as a reflection, but it can't create new cubemaps in-engine on the fly; let alone actually have a continuously rendered reflection probe, which is the ideal way that Unity/UE3/Cryengine do it. Like, for reference, this F4 cubemap technology was being used in TES: Morrowind. The "enchanted" effect uses a wrap-around layered cubemap, but these days it's really not an adequate substitute for captured HDR reflections. Source on the other hand pre-captures between 10 - 50+ HDR cubemaps for each level, and the reflection changes depending on how close you are to the given cubemap probe. Fallout 4 just has a single predominant cubemap it uses for almost everything, which is that condord-ish outdoor reflection that you see on almost all your guns and armor, and it's assigned to the weapon/armors material, which never changes and is always the same.
Power armor grade based on rank in the BoS would've made sense. T-45 for baseline knights, T-51 for knight-sergeants and above, T-60 for paladins, and repurposed X-01 for star paladins and above.
x-01 is post-war, the brotherhood would have nothing to do with it
Gee thanks for pointing out that reflection thing now I'll never unsee it It's like the blue/orange contrast thing but worse :ohno:
x-01 is post-war, the brotherhood would have nothing to do with it
Except they also use post-war tech where advantageous? They literally build the Prydwen out of the ruins of the Enclave crawler, including advanced guidance and defense systems created by the Enclave.
I see nothing wrong with using the X-01. I think the usage of tech made post-war have specific cases of when the BOS should use it or not. It was probably just an oversight or an act of laziness by Bethesda to not include lower/higher tier power armor to each rank.
[t]http://i.cubeupload.com/dGBjAU.jpg[/t]
the outdoor reflection doesn't bother me a bit, what bothers me is that even though they have the capability to do optics without an overlay they still do it that way.

It's like how they go on about nuke's and the misuse of technology and then go and requip [sp]Liberty Prime[/sp] with a nuclear arsenal and [sp]end up nuking Boston for a second time, with untold ramifications,[/sp]because whatever suits their best interests supersedes the rules they abide by.

:snip:
So I'm back at New Vegas and I installed a bunch of mods that make the game look better/fix shit My only gripe with it now is the third person animations, is there any mod that make them look less like wank?
Very few times have I ever felt legitimately mean in a Fallout game when I'm not trying to be. I just made my way through a raider camp, and instead of killing the last few melee guys, I crippled their legs and kept smacking them with the butt of my rifle to keep them on the ground as I looted their things and their allies' corpses right in front of them. Then I executed them with a shotgun one by one. I didn't realize how fucked up what I did was until like a minute after, then I was like "WOW what is wrong with me"
