Hey everyone, so here's my first try at making an item and at modeling altogether. It's still WIP so criticism is very welcomed.
I made a small edit to the coloring of the blade, I think it would look a bit better like this: Even if you don't want the red/black to have a smooth/spotty transistion, the last teeth should at least be same color as the other ones.
Thanks for the feedback guys, so I changed the color scheme to make it a bit darker and I've added some more details. I've also made three versions of the black tip, so what do you think ? Also, are my images way too big?
How about keep the same fade-out as in the middle, but have the ink on the teeth as well?
What about some black "tiger stripes" for the second version? You could probably also publish the item with multiple textures, and let the player choose whichever they want to use.

Just a suggestion

The one that Bordellimies also suggested looks pretty awesome too.
Alright, so after a couple of changes, I think I'm done with it. I've experimented a lot with the black tip, and this seemed to be the best looking one in-game. What do you think ?

After some burst of motivation at 1 in the morning, I have actually made significant progress on my Windrunner scarf. The masks and normal map are just based off of her default textures, so I'll get around to that. Both low-poly and high-poly are made and rigged.

A wild community update appeared!
Thanks for the support everyone, I'm really glad you liked it. All along I had an idea for a 3 piece set for slark: weapon, back and shoulder, here's my progress on the back, do you like the concept? Also do you guys think it would be better to submit the weapon alone or within a set?
Are there any tutorials available for zbrush? The only one that shows the creation of an item uses 3DS Max after only doing the sculpt in zbrush. I was hoping to be able to use mostly zbrush but I find 0 resources on that. And even in general I only find 1 useful tutorial. Would be glad if someone could help me.

Well I know how to use zbrush but not how to get my model into the game. That's the problem. The tutorial I found is this http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=149270397#89839 but after making the sculpt in zbrush it uses 3DS Max for optimisation mapping and skinning in addition to stuff like xnormal and crazybump (no problem with those, but with buying 3DS Max for those steps). Is there no way to do most of the things in zbrush to get it gameready?
Get blender then?
Has anyone made a Hand of Midas item for NP, Doom and possibly Invoker? Would be really cool to create
Has anyone made a Hand of Midas item for NP, Doom and possibly Invoker? Would be really cool to create
Someone made a Hand of Midas for Nature's Prophet. I saw it on the polycount forums. Should be on the workshop somewhere. [editline]13th November 2013[/editline] I tested out my scarf for windrunner with a couple of the hoods. The Verdant Coif looks fine, but the Sparrowhawk hood clips through it. Is this something I should worry about?
So I got the 3DS Max trial and wanted to import the smd of a weapon. The smd importer doesn't work with the 2014 version so I installed WallWorm. It imports the weapon but from the tutorial I saw you need the bones too. So I uncheck "remove bones" but get this message when I import it then: MAXScript Rollout Handler Exception -- Runtime error: Bone index out of range: 0" I was using the model files Valve uploaded. Any idea?

I finally managed to import the stuff after doing my own decompile. Now I can start the tutorial I think. But in the first step Im unsure already. In the tutorial the weapon and bones in the viewport look like this: But for me the weapon and bones look like this: Is that just because the tutorial is a little older already or is there something going wrong again? The bones in the first one look more like an outline of the character while the one I got look more like a framework.

I'd be really grateful if someone could help me out with the question I posted in the last post on the last page (here). So many people here are doing great work and gotta know what's up with that since they are way past that point. I googled and googled and just tried out so many approaches but I cant get the skeleton to show up like that anywhere.
Figured might as well post this up here - its been a long time in the making, but after a bit of an uphill battle i've finally finished my second, and possibly last, courier So if you love goats AND bagpipes, then you may possibly not entirely hate this chap... Been a long time since I posted here. Here is an Axe that I just finished. Concept by Hawf. Apart from the completely awesome name, I hope you find this to be a nice addition to the plethora of Axe axes! I absolutely adore how shiny the blades are, makes it seem that Axe takes great care of his weapons. At first it reminded me of the Thunderwrath's Calling hammer for Omni, but that is the best hammer for him so it is a compliment. You thought of making a set to fit with that weapon? You could make a thornmail-y armor, it would fit well with him I think.
