I don't even get how it's possible to have issues like that.
Even if you had like a paltry 20 play testers or something you'd think there's be enough variety in characters and savegames that they'd go "hey why does my character look 70 years old all of a sudden, I think there's a problem"
Tell that to Valve.
Even fixing clipping on an item somehow turns into glitches like building under the maps.
I don't even get how it's possible to have issues like that.
There had to be little to no time for the QA guys to test and report.
I don't know who thought this was a good idea, but it is a fucking disaster.
So my war table progress reset 3 hours back, all the stuff I unlocked on the table from exploring Western Approach is gone in my newest saves. If I go back to the save where i'm in the Western Approach after building the bridges it fixes the table, that's just bizarre.
Scars are completely broken for me, gone from my character and don't appear at all when customising Hawke. Wonder if that's also the case when creating a new character?
That image explains why there was a completely out of place grandma as a soldier in a particular cutscene.
It's been confirmed that scars has just disappeared in general with graphical settings and performance being borked as well.
I guess I'll wait for patch 3.
More info from bioware forums
Original info taken from Solo80 at BSN, then added to with my own observations(Zakrael):
The problems seem to be caused by the game no longer using the graphic settings you've set in the in-game options. Everything is now set to Low or Medium, regardless of what the sliders say. Changing graphics options now achieves very little.
The patch removed no files, so the high quality meshes and textures are still there, they're just not being used It appears that somehow the PC version is using the patch settings for the PS3 and X360 versions of the game. this also explains why freckles and scars disappear: those textures (and sliders) are not available on last-gen consoles. The super wrinkly face was added in this patch. It seems that they screwed up the memory number of this texture, accidentally replacing an existing one, so all characters with that old texture now have wrinkles.
Changing the in-game graphic settings still changes the ProfileOptions_profile file in your save folder. The save games in your save folder is still being found, and can be loaded, by the patched game.
The above two bullet points mean that the game still knows where to look for, and can still write to, save games and graphics settings. For some reason, it's just not reading them properly.

Hm, my fears came true. That this patch would bring new bugs. People are reporting their scars gone and having different face texture, hair is shinier on max setting. Graphical settings seem to be stuck on lower-medium quality no matter what you select.

Being the inquisitor is stressful man, it can add a few years onto you.
A couple of things I was wondering about:
[sp]When you're at the winter palace, when does the basement open up? I checked every time I got a chance to return to the main room but every time I went to the door downstairs it wasn't openable.
Also, are the last four areas optional? I'm like two quests from the end of the main quest line and still haven't set foot in Exalted Plains, Emerald Graves, Emprise Du Lion, and Hissing Wastes.[/sp]
I have to say that Awakening is... a lot better than the main game. Which is not to say the main game is bad, I love the main game. It's just a great example of an expansion pack, I guess. It feels a lot more content-filled and doesn't drag nearly as much as certain sections of Origins did (see: Fade, Brecilian Forest, Deep Roads).
[editline]10th December 2014[/editline]
also anders and his kitty are fucking great
Eh, I always felt Awakening was lacking. I mean it's an expansion, and it's a GOOD expansion, but the base game was way more interesting to me.
Did they add makeup to Sera yet or does she still not look like she does on the Wiki?
Eh, I always felt Awakening was lacking. I mean it's an expansion, and it's a GOOD expansion, but the base game was way more interesting to me.
Awakening has one, massive as fuck flaw which I can never, ever forgive.
If you import a save file where you did the sacrifice ending, for some reason it just fucking retcons your Warden to be alive, instead of letting you make a new Orlesian Warden like it does if you don't import a save file at all.
Because of this, and the fact that it broke most of my mods, I never played Awakening beyond the first couple of areas.
I haven't had a single problem after the patch, and honestly the problems I had before are mostly fixed.
Well this is a first.

I disagree, but that's probably just because I have played Origins at least thirty thousand times through and I'm only playing Awakening for the second time now. I still love it.
I was a bit disappointed, like elowin, that I couldn't make a new character in Awakening AND import my previous world state, but I got over it. My real problem with Awakening is that once you do the third area, you're instantly in the end game. Poor Sigrun never got to be a Grey Warden...
Welp, time to go offline on Origin and cancel the update. Thanks for the heads up, guys.

Spoke too soon. Fucking weird. Yesterday after the patch I still had my scar. Today, it's gone. What the fuck.
Something I still can't wrap my head around about Dragon Age II is why the hell [sp]would Orsino turn his back on you and attack[/sp] even after you sided with the mages
I can understand [sp]Meredith[/sp] having her mind pretty much being ravaged at this point, but him ...
I sided with the mages and when Orsino [sp]turned into a necromorph[/sp] I was fucking pissed.

My money is on[sp]Orsino being pushed past his breaking point. No matter what he does, he and his kind just can't ever feel even a little accepted. You can only take so much before you just stop caring.[/sp]
Your guys' points would be pretty legit if not for the facts that:
- At this point, [sp]Orsino[/sp] just witnessed how much of a badass Hawke is, so any kind of instict of self-preservation would tell him not to go up against him/her (and on a completely meta-game POV, his boss form is nothing to sweat over)
- By just leaving Kirkwall he would basically obtain the maximum advantage for himself and his crowd at the minimum cost. Given in that path Hawke has already showed him/herself to be sympathetic towards him, the chances of being prevented to do so are slim
Oh well.

Issue with scars explained - before the patch shader quality was always set to Ultra when it should match mesh setting after patch it's always to Low.
Here's the fix:
Once there, add the following command line parameter: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel <quality setting>
In this instance, <quality setting> should be one of the following:
Ultra
High
Medium
Low
An example of how to set your quality to high would be: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel High
Medium + Low was never meant to show scars High + Ultra should.
I call bullshit. I play on the lowest settings and I could see scars and freckles in the creator and on other NPCs.
I call bullshit. I play on the lowest settings and I could see scars and freckles in the creator and on other NPCs.

Before Patch 2, released December 9, shader quality for all PC users was being forced to run at Ultra. This impacted the performance of low-end machines and caused some unintended visual artifacts for users whose mesh quality was set lower than Ultra. As a result, users with Low or Medium mesh settings saw hair that was shinier than expected.

Hm, my fears came true. That this patch would bring new bugs. People are reporting their scars gone and having different face texture, hair is shinier on max setting. Graphical settings seem to be stuck on lower-medium quality no matter what you select.

The Palpatine effect.
Oh, well, okay.
There still seem to be a lot to fix. I just hope they can do it soon enough.

That's actually fucking awesome, so we can make older, wizened characters? Gandalf mage here I come!
Yeah, you can. I once saw an image of such character, white hair and big beard and it looked very cool. I think it was on a bioware forum.
Gone back to Origins.
wtf are you doing Merrill?

I'm leaving and Tamlen is dead, and you do this?

I guess people deal with grief in different ways...
I spent too much time finding this but here's an example of an old Inquisitor::

Also there was a hotfix for DA:I that should fix some of the bugs.
