RPS has given it top marks.
So far everyone's giving it really good scores, and that anything cliche and boring wears off after the first couple of hours and it really takes off
so general consensus seems to be that it doesn't suck? Oh my god that makes me pretty damn happy
Has it launched already? Is it good?
Has it launched already? Is it good?
It comes out tomorrow
20th in the EU, 21st in the UK. Not sure about Australia.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Funny/DragonAgeOrigins Thanks, TvTropes, I've been laughing my ass off for five minutes by now (Be wary, some entries are a bit spoiler-ish)
It comes out tomorrow
Midnight actually. Tho I guess you can say tomorrow.
Ooor you can become a Korean and play now, if you know what I mean.
Midnight actually. Tho I guess you can say tomorrow.
Same thing, midnight is the beginning of the next day
Sweet jesus this game has a lot of things to do.

Well I just played the game for about an hour. I made my character, imported Keep stuff and did a bit of tutorial. I also did a match of multiplayer. So, impressions. As someone who is a huge fan of Dragon Age series and loved the heck out of DA:O what I played so far was pretty damn good. The game runs rather well for me (yay!) hopefully it keeps running good. A stutter here and there happens but it's okay. The cutscenes for some reason are locked to 30 FPS so the transition between gameplay and cutscene can be a bit weird at first but I kinda got used to it (even though the FPS difference is noticable). I can't tell much about the story and all that but you see some familiar faces right off the bat! Also the Inquisitor is fully voiced and the character customization is HUGE. As for the MP, it looks like it's pretty fun and rather difficult (at least for now, cuz we're all noobs :v:) We wiped on our match on the standard difficulty. So far my biggest issue with the game is rather clunky controls (which is odd since DA:O and DA2 had really good mouse + kb controls). The movement and camera are fine, but the way you attack enemies and the way you loot stuff is odd to say at best. There is no right click enemy to attack and then just use skills, you have to either hold or keep clicking left mouse button at the enemy (or R button). Also you cannot right click on loot and let your char walk to it to pick it up, you need to move close to it and then right click.
It feels "dumbed down" as compared to the first game on adding attributes or configuring party behaviours. Other than that, really lots of content to keep you occupied
Well, just bought it and pre-loading. Very excited. Hopefully its good!
It feels "dumbed down" as compared to the first game on adding attributes or configuring party behaviours. Other than that, really lots of content to keep you occupied
Yeah it still can't match DA Origins, but even so, it's pretty good. Better than DA2 for sure.
So how is the real-time combat? I feel every video I've seen so far has been kind of flakey, is it an actual real time combat system like a third person slasher, or?
Sort of, yes. It's kinda weird, compared to other two DA games. You use left click or R to attack the enemy in real time, so one click is one hit, but you also have skills that you use in between.
It feels "dumbed down" as compared to the first game on adding attributes or configuring party behaviours. Other than that, really lots of content to keep you occupied
What do you mean?
You cannot physically add individual character attributes like Strength, Constitution, etc etc. Instead, when you learn new skills, some of them add +3 to the attribute
You cannot physically add individual character attributes like Strength, Constitution, etc etc. Instead, when you learn new skills, some of them add +3 to the attribute
Eh, I don't think there is too much wrong with that. I rather RPGs take risks and find new system improvements that either benefit their game, their sub-genre or even the genre as a whole. Table Tops have tons of systems that evolved in a similar manner to improve what was there in both detail and accessibility, or sometimes just even just people winging it to make their own system for their own campaign. So if the gameplay feels free, open and responsive and the story roleplay feels in depth with choice, than I am totally okay with this.

I've been enjoying the game pretty much so far except for a few bits. I cannot for the life of me create a decent looking character. Its a personal problem. The Camera is sometimes totally retarded making it really damn difficult to target things that are above you, like rifts and especially so in the [sp]Pride Demon[/sp] fight during the prologue. Some models have some fairly serious rigging issues, such as sometimes his entire arm becomes detached from his shoulder and you can see through the model. The cutscene framerate lock is jarring when I go from watching something at ~60 fps to 30 makes everything look jittery to me. Weapons and Armor are locked by class like in DA2. Hopefully we get some savvy modders who can get something to work on Frostbite and I can have a heavy armor mage again. Aside from that like I said it feels pretty solid and it has been tickling my RPG scratch I've had for a while. On the topic of having "Just Head and Chest armor slots" you can modify your chestplate to have different leggings/gloves at the "Modify Armor" table. They actually have different models so you can visually see different armor pieces equipped.

Apparently theirs some concern about the games use of Denuvo (drm) shortening an SSD's life. I'd keep it on a HDD until further notice. The sources don't seem terribly reliable so I'dd hold off getting my panties in a twist until theirs some good confirmation, but just to be on the safe side.
Lol. Can't even get anything higher than 20 fps on high.
Lol. Can't even get anything higher than 20 fps on high.
I have no idea what your specs are though so I cannot tell of this is a dig at the game or the simple reality that we suffer together in this world of minimum spec. :v:
2600k at 4.5 GHz with 16 gb of ram and a 760. Should be able to play it no problem. Recommended is a quad core @ 3.0 ghz for intel.
how significant is the shortening though?
