Joyful shouldn't win anything because it sucked ass.
Painful was good but Joyful just being a dicerolling simulator sucked. Not to mention it totally fucked up the story to a comical level.

I'm so fucking disappointed in these VGAs. Audrey Belrose, the greatest character of the century so far, wasn't even nominated for best character.

Imagine playing a RPG and the only option you had in fight was "Attack."
There's no party members, no gimmicks, nothing. Just "do you want to heal this turn? If no hit attack." Entire time this awful combat is going on Dingaling absolutely shits over the story of the Painful RPG. The villain that was built up as a mystery just turns out to be a generic ass guy and one of the villains from Painful has a hamfisted redemption turn.
It's real bad.

In all seriousness, no. It's mostly just a fad game like giving people Bad Rats or playing Goat Simulator.
It's somewhat tongue in cheek but the gameplay is pretty minimal and it's mostly just playing Bejeweled to woo the girls on dates and when you get in their pants. The Steam version is also censored.

tbh I went into it thinking "wtf is this shitty ass anime weeb game" and gave it to my friend as a joke and now I love it and I'm not even ashamed. The match 3 puzzles get legitimately difficult and strategic later on

I'm not. HM1 was a flawless swish of an execution. HM2 had some setbacks in the story, gameplay, and even soundtrack (everything, really), and the level editor took so long to come out that I lost interest by the time that it did.
Kinda sucks when you make an initial game that's so perfect that it can only go downhill if you make a sequel.

I have no major gripes with HM2's story. I played it quite solidly for weeks after release and was still finding little things that hadn't occurred to me, the attention to detail is superb. Probably my favourite game story of last year. Soundtrack's great too.
I'm torn between deciding if Hotline Miami 2 or Undertale had the better soundtrack, they both nailed it. Miles over everything else.
