I thought Fillia's parasite was just stuck to her head or something
It's actually her whole fucking cranium
Jesus
According to the game lore, parasites like Samson and Leviathan are typically lethal to remove from their host. However the parasite can survive if quickly transferred to a new host.
It's no surprise that Samson has some deep physical connection to Filia that'd keep him from coming off easy.
I love this game. i started playing ms fortune a couple of days ago, and shes really fun to play.

well Squigly is already dead so
I remember someone speculated that Samson was the one that erased Filia's memories. Leviathan says something like "You've gone too far this time Samson" and Parasoul tells Filia that he's just using her. (Both are start of the match quotes)
Samson also tells Filia that the Skullheart can bring back her memories so the speculation was that he is using Filia to get the Skullheart and when she becomes the Skullgirl he can absorb her powers.
this is the first fighting game i've really gotten into and i'm playing it with a keyboard.
am i a bad person
edit: no seriously
also, any pointers or advice to someone who's an absolute scrub when it comes to this genre?
As said every 3 pages, do all the tutorials, learn some comnos and just play
As said every 3 pages, do all the tutorials, learn some comnos and just play
i should learn to read.
if you keep getting shit on then add the people you find that are on your skill level on steam and practice with them. FGs are more personal than most other genres. Its better if you have a sparring partner or a chatroom you can pop in and discuss the game.

also i decided to learn / am currently practicing Valentine.
Oh man I'm starting to combo real nice using Squiggly/Filia, it's so satisfying to get the numbers flying up.

I went through the tutorials with a keyboard.
It's... functional, but it really falls apart when I try to actually fight. It took me at least 10 tries to practice the combos in the tutorial and despite all the pain and sweat I still have trouble activating specials.
So you should probably think about getting a controller.

Get a Playstation controller.
in the beginning its going to be hard no matter if you're using a keyboard or a fightstick, I hope people aren't getting the illusion that its hard because they have a keyboard. It will get better eventually no matter what you play with.

I've been trying to get a hold of mine for the past week but fate has determined that the one person capable of sending it to me is unreliable as fuck.

Don't destroy my illusions, it's the only thing giving me hope that I didn't just burn money by buying this.

Play with a controller.
Also the game is hard but in my opinion it's still easier to master and understand than other fighting games like street fighter because executing special moves and combos is generally much simpler (all supers are essentially the same combination and the game allows mashing for combos).
Play with a controller.
stick*
stick*
...is far too large of an investment for someone new to the fighting game genre and is evidently prone to breaking.
evidently prone to breaking.
Only if you get a really cheap one / are horribly irresponsible
But yeah, it is a large investment
My arcade stick is still in pristine condition and I've been real tough with it. Good sticks are built to resist tough handling.
But good sticks are no less than 70 bucks so it's kind of tough to buy one if you just got in fighting games. Not to mention it's just going to confuse you more than anything because using a stick and a controller isn't the same business at all when playing.
Get a fightpad and then work your way into a fightstick.
Between £20-£30 and it's still superior to your average controller for fighting games, THEN you can decide whether or not you should get a fightstick.

thats why you don't get a piece of shit stick then
if you live in America you can get a decent stick for like $60 (qanba q1). I got my stick with only like 40 hours into SF4.

Only advice I can give here is don't get a SFxT Madcatz fightpad or at least expect it to only last a month or so. They're cheap and they work well but the problem is that they break easy. Mine lasted a month and a half before it started to wear out. It's not just me either, they're notorious for breaking easy. At least I have a controller for general usage I guess.
I had much less than 40 hours in fighting games when I got mine. Granted I have a full time job.
Also is anyone playing KOF XIII? I'm really enjoying it but it doesn't seem like anyone else is playing it.
Just bought Skullgirls. It's really good.
Parasoul is pretty great.
I have KOFXII for the PS3 if that amounts to anything.

That's the thing though. When they look at their options it's either $60 for a stick, or $32 for a controller.
And considering you can get tot he point of being just as good with the person with the stick for less money it's not hard to see why the choice goes that way.

Parasoul and Fillia feel like the best characters to start with because they are straight forward and don't use specials much. You can win entirely by comboing while characters like squiggly are a lot more reliant on specials and such.

I'm going to pick up XIII in a sale. I know I like it since I've played it, but I am not up for paying $30 for it.
I just heard the funniest thing between Cerebella and ms. Fortune before the match started:
Cerebella: You can has cheeseburger!
ms. Fortune: That's racist!
:v:
The best line in the game is Ms Fortune yelling puns at Painwheel and painwheel just grunting in anger.
