To do the maximum amount of allowed notes you need 5 bars

I might be a little late to the Tournament party I think- but I can play a decent fortune and would like to play with some of you guys possibly on thanksgiving break if anyone will be around. I added myself to the google docs players list.
If you guys are going to host a tourney I suggest you make a Steam event or something if there's a FP Skullgrls group and set it to activate half an hour before the start time since people tend to forget.
There is currently no deadline on when the tournament will be held. However when there is, I will let all of you know.
Looks like this game knows that Big Band comes next, I have got 3 big band cards and one of them is foil.
RNG isn't my thing.

thats pretty damn lucky, considering skullgirls foils sell for a good amount on market, you can probably buy a cheap game with that card alone.
Shame that the Big Band Foil is the lowest price selling foil card.
Also skullgirls cards are in general expensive I mean 0,25€ for a digital trading card(non foil).

I'm thinking about holding the tourney this week when everyone is off of School/Work, if I do I will let everyone know, both on the thread and PM.
Anybody got any nice Valentine combos?
I've been playing quick matches to train, but honestly, they don't help. I'm in HK, so the matchmaking system pairs me up with Koreans who probably do nothing but Skullgirls all day, as they can pull of 40 combos at the beginning of the match and rape me.
So then I turned to the practice room. I've been training lots with Valentine solo lately, but the best I can really pull off is a 20 combo (which uses a special ability). Basically:
Jump LK (flurry of weak hits)
LP
LK
MP
MK
EKG Flatliner
Which in total deals 20 hits and a decent amount of damage, but needs a little time to pull off.
Anybody got any suggestions or help? Feel free to add me on steam.
Thanks!

Here's something that can help point you in the right direction:

As far as learning how to get the execution right goes, practice the combos in manageable chunks before stringing them together all in one. You're way better off learning 3 chains that you can string together on-the-fly in practice than you are memorizing a single bread & butter combo that you can't pull off unless you start it with a specific move.
the skullheart forums has everything

also hits doesnt mean anything because of multi hit moves and not all moves do the same damage

Of course this applies to all fighting games.

I should have quoted MyBumBum
I need a gamepad.
What type are you looking for?
A lot of pad players swear by a PS2 or PS3 pad, however there are some decent logitech controllers with pretty good buttons and d-pads.
I've been playing a bit of skullgirls (I have no previous fighting game experience) on pc using a ps3 controller. Is it normal that my thumb is getting really sore from the D-pad especially from the move in which you have to do a quarter circle (down to left/right)?

You'll become numb to the pain eventually.
But yeah, it's normal.

A good way to test how hard you need to press is to go into training mode and turn button inputs on and look at the display and start off pressing very light and then slowly add pressure until you get an input, after that practice the motion while only applying the pressure needed for the dpad to register your input. After awhile you should be able to stop pressing so hard on the dpad and you will feel much more comfortable preforming motions and your thumb wont hurt.
Will this tourney affect my non existing stats or something negatively? If not then add Komppu / Combine177 or do I have fill some sort of a form my self?
Also is there "official Skullgirls Facepunch" group?

The tournament will be in a lobby play. This is the Facepunch Skullgirls group http://steamcommunity.com/groups/fpskullgirls
And the form that you can fill out if you would like to compete in the tournament is here. Along with the other form that you can fill out just to find people to play with here on Facepunch.

So fairly new to this game, as well as the fighting genre as a whole, playing it mostly with a dualshock 4. Any general tips I should know, or tips for learning combos?

a good tip for all FGs in general is to not develop habits because a good play will exploit that and punish the fuck out of you
i've also heard that it's a good idea to try to use the dpad instead of the analog stick, you can play better that way. i don't know the exact reasoning why, but i've found myself pulling off special moves and moving around way easier with the dpad.

focus on a bnb (bread and butter combo) and when you think you can pull it off consistently start working on your defense.

No, do develop habits, it's that I catch onto habits really fast that I win against people :v:
