Timing. It's the same timing as parrying with a shield.
So damage doesn't matter at all unless you're a bloodtinge build?
visceral attack damage scales with your skill

Now I wish that a visceral attack from a strength build is an uppercut
Would be pretty shitty if DS had ripostes & backstabs scale off of dexterity. Why does Mr. Japanese Director Man hate strength builds so much? It's not like honorable LoTR-style knights used phantom range katanas, did they?

Str builds have always been kinda top tier in all the souls games, for PvE anyway.
uchi and balder straight sword disagree with you

Really? I play nothing but STR builds due to the style factor but the few times I've tried to go dex the game has been consistently easier.
Less weapon weight means you can reach that fast roll/DS2 distance, regen & recovery breakpoints easier. Dex weapons also tend to have better early game scaling, you have to upgrade a lot less before you see that B or A or even S.
Also just got to using the Velka's Rapier in DS1 and holy shit it's fun to use for mage builds; I no longer deal chip damage with melee! At +5 I can even overkill Silver Knights. It's nice that it appears to be a quality weapon at 16/16 so I don't have to feel bad about dexing.
Str weapons aren't really that heavy, unless it's the demon great hammer. Zwei only has 10 weight.
i used hybrid builds more often in pve because im an unskilled sheep

black knight weapons 4 lyfe
Do you guys really think strength builds are underpowered? They're consistently the most powerful builds in all From's games. You have huge base damage compared to other weapon types, great scaling, and only the absolutely huge weapons are slower than dex weapons. The reason visceral attack damage scales with skill is because a fully maxed out skill weapon will be 200-300 points of damage weaker than a maxed out strength weapon, and Bloodborne doesn't have slow weapons like Dark Souls has.
Every game From make dex weapons weaker and every game we have people complaining that strength weapons aren't powerful enough, when they easily outclass the other playstyles.
ofc strength will always be the best. miyazaki loves berserk. you know. the anime about the big strong man who kills everything because he is strong and fast and has a giant fucking sword.

all of u wizard nerds need to face the facts. big strong boys with big strong swords will always be the best
Nothing says MAN like a sword that's twice the width of your torso.

Strength builds have always been easy to succeed with. Dexterity builds are harder to succeed with but reward that challenge by allowing you to roll and parry your way through everything; dex has always been the absolute top tier for PvE.

You can fast roll and parry with str builds through everything as well. All you have to do is sacrifice one ring slot for havels ring.

Or just not wear fat armor.
I can't imagine what it would be like to go through BB with a rifle spear or blade of mercy. I need wide swings.

Rifle Spear tricked has great horizontal swings, my Skill/Bloodtinge build was based around it for a while. Only issue with it is that you'll be doing absolute piss damage with it. Kinda makes up for it with the amazing charged, well, charge though.
I went to darkroot garden, posing as one of the ring of fog knights and it was actually an effective way of fooling invaders

I did this atleast 17 times and sometimes repeat invaders forgot I was disguised as that guy
omg I forgot about this I used to do exactly this back when I played ds1
if anyone caught me before i could backstab them I'd remove all of my armor and just start sprinting around in circles off into the distance
I finally had a beckoner where we killed [sp]The Orphan of Kos[/sp], but the host died first. So we avenged the host, and finished off [sp]The Orphan![/sp] It counted!! I messaged out gracious host from across the seas to see if it did. He/She was grateful for the assist.
Did some PvP with the Bloodletter.

It's pretty okay I guess.

My philosophy on Bloodborne PvP is to lull the enemy into a false sense of security then strike when they least expect it
Also, celebrate your victories by flinging yourself off the nearest cliff

I must concur with this (and I'm skill)
nightmare frontier is one of the most anti-fun areas ive ever come across in a souls game
You've either not played Dark Souls 2 or you've got an exceptionally short memory. Remember the Shrine of Manamana (Doo doo, doo doo doo.)?
I've always found shrine of fuck shit damn to be incredibly easy. I mean, atleast for me.
I literally just rolled-dodged shots until I came up to the shits and thwackedm with my lance

It wasn't difficult at all - it just wasn't fun. The single most tedious, irritating part of any run.
Tedious? I thought Iron Keep was the most tedious.
It pretty much reeked of, "hey guys remember those anor londo archers? haha we've got a surprise for you!"
Not to mention the Knights of "Fuck your parry timings"
Iron Keep on SotFS was just the worst. You were fighting like ten of those knights at once. I can't take that many katanas.
Only anti-fun thing in Bloodborne is Rom imo.
Only anti-fun thing in Bloodborne is Rom imo.
Funny, because those god damned summoned spiders from the Chalice Dungeons instantly come to mind as the worst thing ever.

Oh yeah who thought it was a good idea for these summoned spiders to aggro from across the fucking dungeon? I literally didn't even open the door yet and there was 6 waiting on the other side for me so they can fuck my shit up.
