Is the Saw Cleaver a good Skill weapon for a Skill/STR build? I know it's beginning scale for Skill is E, but is it a good substitute for better skill weapons like the Rakuyo and the Chikage?
Saw Cleaver is more strength-oriented. The Saw Spear is the skill-equivalent to it.
I wouldn't consider C scaling at +10 as strength oriented.
[sp]Rom the Vacuous Spider[/sp] is kicking my ass. It's almost funny it's like [sp]"haha hey this boss can't do anyth-- oh."[/sp]
I wouldn't consider C scaling at +10 as strength oriented.
I'm starting a new character with a preference to Skill, Bloodtinge, and a bit of END to keep swinging. Is the "Troubled Childhood" origin package a good start over the "Professional" origin for beginning stats?
Honestly Lone survivor looks like the best bet for a melee build.

The Professional follows that with 34 useful points. And Troubled Child is the least best with 33 points in the right categories. So you have to choose between: End - Skill - Blood - Total 14 - 13 - 06 - 33 ---Troubled Child 12 - 15 - 07 - 34 ---Professional 08 - 13 - 14 - 35 ---Noble Scion
I wouldn't consider C scaling at +10 as strength oriented.
Oh yes because its D scaling for Skill at +10 would definitely make it otherwise. :v: I'm saying the Saw Spear is the Saw Cleaver's inverted counterpart in terms of scaling. Their scalings are reversed, C in STR and D in SKL for Saw Cleaver and vice versa for Saw Spear. So yes that makes it the strength-oriented of the two.
If Saw Cleaver scaling is any higher (A or B) it would already be the OP-pest weapon in Yharnam
Tempting
I too, bought SotFS. Unfortunately, it consistently crashed every single time I tried to boot it up, and looking around the 'net, it seems that no-one has yet managed to find a working solution. So I asked for a refund. Given some of the stuff I've heard about DS2 since then, I think I dodged a bullet. Here's hoping DS3 doesn't have any similar issues.

And i use a laptop to begin with.
I would honestly not recommend a bloodtinge build unless you're going for PvP, or for some reason really like the Bloodletter.
Chikage, Bowblade, Evelyn and Repeating Pistol disagree. All of those are good in PvP but Bowblade means cheesing basically everything and Repeating Pistop and to a lesser extent Evelyn throw out insane damage with BMA like nobodies business. And Chikage is stronk.
Tempting
I picked up SotFS upgrade in the sale and I really liked it. The DLC areas and bosses were fantastic, the winding, less-linear design reminded me of DS1. A few of the areas were greatly improved - the dragon shrine and crypt have massive reductions in enemies making them tolerable. Shrine of Amana is still bullshit though. I really liked SotFS, it fixed most of the areas I despised.
if DS2 had been released like it's in SotFS it would have been a lot better received I still think a lot of the hate for the game is undeserved but I guess "ds2 is shit" is ingrained in the public consciousness now
I used a Dark Souls build generator. It told me to use the steel set and dual weird great shields I dunno about that one

The DLCs just made me wish they were in the main game instead since DS3 is heavily picking from Loyce type of characters.
Is two greatshields even remotely viable?
Is two greatshields even remotely viable?
Dark Souls is less about, "Is is viable" and rather, "Will I look good doing it?" If your looking to blow through the game, no. Doubling up on great shields is most likely gonna have you pinned into fat roll country and having a rather low damage output. It'd be more something for a sunbro build where you're planning on getting summoned and helping people out or as a challenge build.
Is two greatshields even remotely viable?
No if you're doing PVE. Those bosses don't care about your shiny shields. Yes if you're PVP. People get scared wait why did the icon said I'm from Hong Kong
In DS1 i'd say it'd be nigh on impossible but people have done it. DS2 would be significantly easier, especially if you can get your hands on Orma and Reeve's.
Alright, I'll soon start Dark Souls the first If I may, can someone provide me with that necessary mod everyone talks about and tell me if a dexterity/intelligence build with some spell casting thrown in could work (especially without investing points in attunement)?
DSfix 2.4 we should probably update the OP because it still links to version 2.2
If Saw Cleaver scaling is any higher (A or B) it would already be the OP-pest weapon in Yharnam
Put a Heavy Abyssal on it, it jumps the scaling from C > S, and its better than 27.2% tempering gems in most cases.
It's absolutely viable and you've got a few options if you want a bit of advice.
Indulge me
Chikage, Bowblade, Evelyn and Repeating Pistol disagree. All of those are good in PvP but Bowblade means cheesing basically everything and Repeating Pistop and to a lesser extent Evelyn throw out insane damage with BMA like nobodies business. And Chikage is stronk.
Repeating Pistol and Evelynn are nice, sure, but you're going to be limited by how many bullets you have. They're good for finishing things off or perhaps killing some weak enemies like dogs, but they can't be relied on. Chikage has a similar feature. It tears shit up, sure, but it drains your health constantly which makes it somewhat unviable, especially against high-health enemies and bosses. It would be fine but its untransformed doesn't scale off bloodtinge, so really the Bloodletter is the only bloodtinge weapon I would say could be viably used PvE to any big degree.
Indulge me
At 12 attunement you get 2 slots, which is enough for 2 spells as sorceries don't tend to take up more than one slot. It would mean that you are leveling up intelligence just for the damage on those spells, though, as going for magic/enchanted weapons is not ideal, it is best to go all one damage type. A standard dex build with intelligence would work, but you'd need to sacrifice something else.
It's worth noting that the health drain on the Chikage is negligible if you don't run around with it in it's transformed state. Just work in transform attacks to deal your damage and get out. You can even do a quickdraw from the transformation animation. The damage potential is great, plus it's fun to use, it's one of my favorite weapons from the base game.
[sp]Rom the Vacuous Spider[/sp] is kicking my ass. It's almost funny it's like [sp]"haha hey this boss can't do anyth-- oh."[/sp]
You can prevent her from teleporting if you can hit her hard enough while she's fading away.
also kill all the spiders before going near her and try to keep her in vision, her attacks are very telegraphed if you look at her movement
I only wipe them out for the first part when she doesn't do anything. When she gets aggressive I just kill the ones in my way and do hit and run attacks on her. I just thin them out so it reduces the chances of one of those fuckers head diving into me while I'm whacking her
