Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VII. Now Only Embers Remain

It's a fucking shame that I managed to kill the two Black Knights around the Burg area and one even dropped a Black Knight Greatsword, but I can't put it to good use because it's strenght-based
If I'm enjoying something out of this game is to parry an enemy attack and shank him in his heart or outmanuver someone (like a Black Knight) and backstab him
For some reason every time I look at a spoiler tag I secretly hope it's a Dark Souls 1 boss
Knock yourself out
Blighttown is starting to feel like an abominable mixture between Bloodborne's Forgotten Woods and Team Fortress 2 2fort

What is your current Strength? two-handing the sword reduces the STR requisite, but it still seems it wouldn't tickle your fancy as you are into parries
Something you could try is quickly swapping to 1handed, parry your opponent's attack, 2hand the sword and riposte (should be possible)

I've 10 strenght as of now since I started the game as a wanderer
I only use two weapons configurations (and therefore, care to reinforce these weapons only):
1) Scimitar and Target Shield if I'm facing something or someone that can be parried
2) Two-handed Uchigatana for everything else and large bosses
Why not just put points into strength, then? Nothing's stopping you, and quality builds are pretty popular.

You could get away with 1-handing the Uchigatana with the Target Shield.
It only has DEX scaling, so using it 2handed won't increase its attack rating. I don't think the moveset differs much either

Your starting class is basically just an initial boost towards what items you wanna start with, they don't lock you into any build. Like Samiam said, quality builds (usually 40str/40dex) will work with you fabulously, letting you use almost any weapon and taking full advantage of their scaling with the 40s in both stats.

If you're on PC I can jump on in a few hours for jolly cooperation. I've a level 20 wanderer I all but cleared the game with.
I had a really great moment in Blighttown the other day. I've been rushing through the game to get to the DLC area because I haven't played it before, so I came to Blighttown with hardly any moss, directly from Firelink Shrine through the Valley of Drakes. I got inflicted with toxic and couldn't remove it, and I was burning through my estus as I was rushing for the bonfire at the bottom. When I was right next to it I had no estus, 5-10% health left and I would've died had I been just a few seconds later. Dark Souls is the best.

Two-handing and attempting to switch back to one-handing is totally viable if a little bit hectic. One of my runs in which my friends decided we'd use the highest strength weapon we can find (even if it's not the best) had us two-handing it all the way up to Izalith. Which we did second to last. Boy, fighting anyone with a Lord Soul will fuck you up when your moveset consists of "sit on ass, swing hammer, wait until heat death of the universe".
that sweep tho

Parry that shit barehanded. Good fun. Keeps your weight down in the early game too.

Quality builds tend to stop at 28str since it's the softcap for 2handed weapons

Smough's hammer requires 58str. Have fun! :v:

Oh friend, friend I have discovered that nirvana of stagger. Even just two-handing the fucking thing needed like 30 str, and by that point levels are fucking expensive.
Still fucked Artorias up with it. Somehow. Dudes fast.

i am legit doing this for one of my current runs (lucerne only, no shield)
i'm really good at parrying anyway so it's incredibly fun actually
actually i have a grass crest shield for the stam regen but i'm not allowed to block with it
laurence didn't actually seem TOO hard from my 2 runs on him so far, i want to get back to BB and kill his ass but studying is a thing

I'm currently running around with the katana from the undead merchant, trying my hardest to not use a shield. So far I've rolled around most of Darkroot Garden, because walking is for chumps.
This is however making Havel a bit of a shit to fight as the slightest fuck up with a roll and I'm flat. But it makes a difference from my normal strength sword-and-board guys.

Why not use the parrying dagger?
I made a shield-less dex-pyromancer using the parrying dagger.
Shit was intense.
But I screwed up my goal of either seeing the alternate cutscene to Sif or seeing Kaathe.
Perhaps I should re-do that build. And why not now :v:
The way that the dancer of the frigid valley moves sends shivers down my spine, that shit ain't natural.
I replaced my hard drive and reinstalled DS1, but seem to have broken DSFix. The opening screen and menus look fine, but when I appear in-game the game is smushed into the top-left 1024x768 pixels of the screen. My HUD appears where it should, and entering a menu to change items, etc. causes the rest of the game to go back to normal, until I exit the menu back into the game.
Has anyone else had something similar happen?

turn off the in-game AA option if you haven't yet

Ah yeah, you're right, i'm thinking of a DS2 quality build, my bad.
PvP Watchdog seems to do fuck all as far as speeding up the time for summoning friends.
Orphan of Kos is fun but the 2nd stage is too fast for me. If he hits me once then he'll stagger me for enough time to finish the combo

That fixed it. Thanks!
I finally decided to play through Dark Souls and I'm fucking loving it. So far I've made it to Blighttown and I'm having a hell of a time.
Updated the OP some more.
If anyone would like to revise the text and/or add some updated links, shoot me a PM and I'll add it with credit to you.
This might be a long shot, but does anyone have that sweetfx preset (I think that's what it was) that got rid of the greenish tint in DS2? I had to reformat and lost all my game installs, and I didn't think to have a copy of that on-hand. I got it from here a few threads ago, but I can't seem to find it. It was specifically for SotFS, if that makes a difference.
Oh man, I know it probably was well known in the community but I still feel amazing about finding out how to cheese Taurus Demon on my own. The last time I played, it took me forever to beat him fair and square.
And I even beat the Gargoyles, which I didn't back then. Alongside a Black Knight and Havel, two obstacles I could not pass.
But now, I'm kinda lost on where to go. Relied on the little I remembered of the game I played before. I managed to grab the shiny on top of Firelink which was the Undead Asylum key so I'm guessing there is a way back. As for Lordran, probably not advised to go behind Havel's door. Got decimated without being able to fight back.
Kinda on my own now.
crestfallen warrior told you where to go
you were paying attention to him
right?
Yeah, the bell underground which I need to go through Blighttown if I'm not mistaken.
I'm sadly the kind of player who goes out of the way to explore parts he shouldn't be in. Guess I'll focus on that. Thanks for the reminder!
