can i upgrade my pistol and just get a bigger stagger chance with that or is stagger chance always the same
Pistols aren't for staggering, they're for parrying. Even my +7 evelyn with 32 bloodtinge never interrupted enemy attacks while my +6 ludwig's rifle was great at staggering. I only got it because it always staggers Logarius
oh wait i think i mean parrying. when they fall over and you get a 2-3 second window to do a visceral attack. they look more staggered than parried. hell why is it called parrying isnt that when you block weapon to weapon??

I think they mean you're blocking their attack in the context of this game(although I have been hit many times by an attack I parried)
Upgrading won't increase the window to parry or increase the time they're done, it's all based on your timing

It's called parrying because that's what deflecting an enemy's attack with a shield was called in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.
So I have hundreds of hours in souls games across the board (the least in DaS2) and today I decided to force myself to play SotFS and managed to get stunlocked and die to a halberd soldier group despite being in the middle of a roll. My experience from all other souls games and Bloodborne fell away as the steam achievement notification popped up, "welcome to dark souls". Suddenly, visions of the shrine of Amana, infinite stamina drakekeepers, the bullshit NPC invaders and all the other shit DS2 throws at you later in the game flashed in front of my eyes, along with all the comments of people saying the groups of enemies are even more bullshit in scholar. How people can find this game fun I don't know
Yeah, probably never playing it again. Such a shame the game's design is intrinsically flawed, there's so much content along with the DLCs, and I get sentimental thinking back to the first time I played, but thank fuck they're building on the gameplay from BB and DS1 for DS3. It can't come soon enough
edit: salty pageking
This is pretty interesting to read, since I never played Dark Souls II (hell, or even saw gameplay of it) my experience with Dark Souls 2 was solely based off of the Scholar Edition.
Playing Scholar for the first time was pretty great, honestly. At least in my opinion - the game had flaws that brought it down much lower than the original, but it was still fun. That being said, one of those flaws in my opinion was the lack of a difficulty the vast majority of the game had.
Scholar's bonfires were far too close together, and many of the bosses are just slow and downright poorly designed. I remember one of the huge bosses, a fire demon that emerged from lava, was so ominous looking but moved with the patterns of a 16-bit SNES boss. Wee, here comes the fist. I remember another boss that sang in the blue dark caves who literally did next to nothing the entire fight except telegraph slow lumbering moves.
Most enemies just didn't move with the AI or speed needed to really push the player, IMO. I think Scholar may be the easiest of the Souls games in that regard. Of course, this is just my experience with it, but it's interesting to think about.
It's sort of sad that Darklurker, an optional boss, shines most of the DSII main game bosses.
Hell that boss is a glass cannon against fire and magic yet he's fun to fight, it's a boss [sp] lately duo[/sp] done right (Sadly forcing to waste Human Effigies for every try sucks)
Was cooping with a friend when we got invaded.

Parrying that Bloodletter L2 feels so fucking good.

if there were more bosses like Darklurker dark souls 2 would have been a lot better
I'm starting to wonder what is the purpose of the Blighttown snipers, given they don't respawn, aside from making my first exploration of the area a lot harder than it needs to be

Like most things it's to teach you to focus on your surroundings. If you're aware of the snipers they're pretty much harmless, their attacks are slow, they don't track well, the guys are weak, and they drop the thing required to heal the toxic they inflict on you (usually).
Now the Anor Londo snipers, they're just there for fun. Miyazaki's fun, not your fun.

Ok, but why they are there if they don't respawn afterwards? What's the point?
Ok, but why they are there if they don't respawn afterwards? What's the point?
They don't respawn after you kill them to make it easier on you on subsequent trips through the area. It's their reward for doing well, like most areas give you a shortcut for getting far enough.

unless you go ranged weapons they force you to explore the area more thoroughly, as you have to find your way to them to actually kill them. they also reinforce a more careful playstyle. they don't respawn because that would be too bullshit.
hot gamer tipz: the spider shield completely blocks the blowdart toxic build-up (actually holding it up and blocking the dart, not just having it equipped)
Which is found iirc on the upper walls of the giant rat pit in the Depths unless you started Bandit.
Problem with Dark Souls 2 is that the zones are harder than the bosses. It looks like they understand this because they put bonfires literally steps away from eachother, but it's still shitty.
When a legitimately bossy boss does pop up in DS2, it's also really frustrating because you break the dynamic the rest of the game built up to; defeat extremely difficult zone, chill out with relatively chill zone boss.
In DS1 everything was paced really well difficulty wise. Bosses were mostly always challenging but the areas before them weren't the most tiring bullshit in the world. For bosses that you would die repeatedly to, you got a relatively nice shortcut or a simple area to run through.

It's actually in the valley of drakes on the bridge toward the red tearstone ring.
Unless there's two of em. I never really explore the depths.

There's two of them. 3 if you start as a bandit.

I mentioned the Depths one because i couldn't remember if there was one with the set or not.

Getting to the Iron King is harder than the Iron King himself
Getting to the Iron King is harder than the Iron King himself
That's exaggerated, the whole final area was easy unless you never learned how to dodge a turtle.
The first to Smelter and after are much harder.
Ds1 still has its bs moments honestly, running for O&S wasn't that great, Seth run? I'd rather not mentioning, Tomb of the Giants and so on. i still think both DkSs suffer similar problems but the second has worse moments
Getting to the Iron King is harder than the Iron King himself
Smelter is harder than the Iron King (Which is understandable according to Lore, where the Smelter Demon came in and wrecked the Iron King's shit), and pre-smelter (SotFS) is harder than the Smelter Demon.
Iron Keep basically gets easier the farther you go.
At Ornstein and Smough. Unfortunately for the moment I have to play offline, so what's the best way to tackle this? I do know I can summon Solaire
hit them with your weapon and avoid taking damage

I prefer fighting Smough at the end because I can dodge his attacks easier compared to the faster attacks Pikachu throws at you.
I wouldn't summon Solaire. More summons = more boss HP
Ornstein doesn't like fire/occult, Smough doesn't like lightning. Use the pillars to block their attacks (don't stand too close on the other side though), be patient and wait for an opening, i.e. distance between O&S and one of them winding down from an attack. Use fast rolls
Ornstein is usually the one people kill first.
I have better time killing Smough first, Ornstein doesn't feel threatening at all.
I hope DS3 has a dark root grain ring so to incorporate the dashing from BloodBorne :v:
