Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VII. Now Only Embers Remain

amygdala is the only boss on that list i didnt find fun, paarl and laurence weren't bullshit at all
Paarl is literally From's biggest screwup when they decided to put form before function.
I have never seen such a low framerate. In his second form, especially in chalice dungeons, he can spam so much lightning bullshit that the game starts going in slow motion and it can actually become a problem. The boss fight feels less "here's a challenging and scary enemy that you'll feel good about beating" and more "look at all this pretty lightning"
I thought Laurence was really bad, mostly because the lockon camera just didn't work. It was odd because the cleric beast works perfectly fine and they're pretty much the same thing.
Laurence is bad (in my opinion) mostly because his individual moves do so much damage that there is a danger of being one-shot if you slip up. That by itself is annoying but manageable, though bringing in his huge amount of health (especially on NG+) means that retrying is tedious.
He also has an annoying second form that basically devolves into baiting him into using that one charge attack in a circle over and over again because getting hits any other way is risky or inefficient.
I would like more large beast / giant battles, but the problem with them in Souls games is that it just winds up being "hit its ankles until it dies". I haven't played Shadow of the Colossus, but how they did boss battles was pretty cool. I like the idea of having to hit specific weak spots or trigger certain events in a big boss arena to beat them, rather than just "shoot/stab it til it dies". If I'm fighting a giant monster that's the size of an apartment building, my dinky-ass sword should be like a needle prick against that. I liked the big bridge minotaur because the best way to kill it was to take advantage of the jump-stab to take off big parts of its health at a time.

Ugh, this. If he wasn't a habitual one-shotter with the health of a wheat grass smootie-chugger, he'd be manageable. His second form is both cool and extremely stupid, because of how lame half the attacks are.
His big round swing isn't bad and leaves him open, but his stupid crawl forward and slam combo is nearly unavoidable; you'll take damage no matter what, dodging it is basically just saying it didn't wombo combo you. At least his slam -> lava diarrhea is a good time to hit him from the side.
I felt his second form would have been better if they treated it like Sif's, where he actually gets worse and pathetic, not "and here comes the infini-stun lava, wooooo"
From saw that people never use items in their games so they tried to make items relevant. If you're going to encounter winter lanterns you should be carrying sedatives.
Assuming you actually want to kill the Winter Lantern, the very second you consume a sedative the frenzy meter starts going up again, meaning you have to constantly drink sedatives during the fight every 8-10 seconds or so
This of course doesn't take into account that the Winter Lantern's grab move can and WILL get you, given that it has a very small parry window and, like all the grab attacks in any Souls game this far, its hitbox will grow or shrink accordingly just for the enemy to get you
And if the Winter Lantern grabs you, then you are pretty much dead, because you won't be able to consume sedatives and frenzy will catch up with you (and should you have full health when you are grabbed, the Lantern will damage you as long as she has an hold on you, finishing the job)
Man, I might just be the worst at dodging... but Fume Knight and Sir Alonne can go fuck themselves.
I've always just used rolling but parrying stays great, especially with those thief builds.

Use the frenzy resist rune.
And if you can't parry a lantern, then the next best thing is to use something heavy. The hunter axe transformed R2 works wonders against them (as it'll knock them down) and deal quite a bit of damage. Beast roar also works.

The grab is one of the easiest moves in the game to dodge, and there's a huge window after it where you can use a sedative or get hits in. You can mash any button on the controller to struggle free and take less damage. If you know you will encounter winter lanterns (by being killed by them or noping the fuck out) then you should increase your frenzy resist and get rid of your insight.
I used to think winter lanterns were bullshit too until I learned how to fight them.

Winter lanterns are super intimidating, which can make them more difficult than they actually are. If you get too scared to engage them quick and hard, then you're going to die. Get in there and crush em.
Thing about making a giant giant boss that doesn't revolve around you smacking their fingertips until they die is that you have to bring puzzle elements into the fight and that's where shit gets ridiculous.

No but BB is super fair and DS is an unfair mess right

A particular troublesome enemy isn't exactly the same thing as putting annoying gimmicks all over the place
Dark Souls is a super fair game. Almost everything is telegraphed for you before it happens, and the stuff that isn't gives you enough time to react to what's happening, and put up a defense (the archers in Blight Town, for instance).

except manus bad time simulator
Manus is dumb, my god.
I do love how crazy he is and how he attacks but consider him in a game where your character isn't likely a fast Hack-n-Slash where you can't double jump etc.
I hated it so much next to Orphan.
Since I'm milking my PS Plus subscription for all its worth, I'm starting to notice that bringing more than two people for most of the Bloodborne boss fights tend to break them, further decreasing the difficulty
Today I've helped several people against Ebrietas and the boss would often just stand still and do nothing or keep changing direction and not atttacking, unable to deal with the huge aggro from different sources
jolly cooperation has always made the souls series a lot easier to deal with. even one person taking aggro off you gives you the ability to cooldown and approach from a different angle

Can't wait to see the DS3 version of the katana that damages you. The chikage gives me hope.

[sp]Dirty Beast. Vicar Amelia, what are you doing in Lordran?[/sp]
Are DS2's servers offline right now? I can't seem to go online at the moment.

Really? I've always found him to be really easy. Just bring a shield. Even basic Dragon Crest +5 at 30end worked out for me.
Does the PvP watchdog help with connecting to Co-op?

Yeah, i discarded the shield, without it would be a pain.
Damn i just can't wait to use a shield\greatshield in DS3, i miss those.

no, it displays P2P nodes and lets you kick / leave the world of cheaters
that's all
EDIT : tho it does protect you from PvP hacks such as Instacurse, egghead and equipment destroy
