Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VII. Now Only Embers Remain

So this evening I've found the blacksmith in the Catacombs, reached Dark Sun Gwyndolin and kill him (her?), brought the red dude at Firelink Shrine should I ever get cursed again, explored the Great Hollow and the Ashen Lake, brought my Uchigatana to +15 and entered in the Artorias DLC
By the way, the mean to access the DLC is one of the most unnecessary cryptic bullshit I've ever seen in a videogame

Get ready for some bullshit bosses though.
Out of curiosity, how many people have used Ingward to cure curse vs. using a purging stone? I personally always go for the stones since it's the quickest way and you can have a couple on you by the time you get to the depths, but if you get cursed later game it's occurred to me that it may not be out of the way at all to just go ahead and do the New Londo ruins while you're cursed.

not really you just read the description on the pendant and say to yourself "hey oolacile I know a character from there" so you go to where you met that character
you are reading key item descriptions right

my first play through I didn't even know there were item descriptions
Felt like recording my fight with O&S solo on my new strength build.

This probably would have gone faster if I wasn't using such an unwieldy weapon. :v:

I've grown EXTREMELY genre savvy with Dark Souls and I'm reading everything. Even every literal pile of shit I pick up from time to time
That said, getting to the pendant is the major problem of the whole thing and requires several passages I really doubt someone would be able to figure out WITHOUT relaying on any guide or tip from others
I stumbled into Oolacile my first time accidentally 'cuz I wanted to talk to Dusk and saw the portal. :v:
"Oh hey what's tha-SHIT"

I figured the portal was bullshit on my first time, but the painting got me. "Examine" painting. Neat, will it tell me som- Awwww fuck"

The pendant is literally on the way to seath if you already met dusk what are you talking about
[editline]29th January 2016[/editline]
The only real out of the way thing is dusk herself but even then that's only a hop skip and a jump

Wow. You did very well! That was the hardest fight in this game for me.

Well I have like 10+ characters so O&S isn't exactly new for me. But thanks!
So I'm about 15 hours into Demon's Souls, killed like 5 bosses really enjoying it. I liked it so much I went and bought DS2 Scholar of The First Sin. I'm planning to buy Dark Souls 1 too, to complete the collection. So what can I expect from DS 2 SoTFS once I'm, hopefully, done with Demon's Souls? :v:

Your best bet is to start on dark souls 1. Dark souls 2 didn't sit well with a lot of people for some reason.
"For some reason" actually there are a lot of very clear and numerous reasons why it didn't sit well.

I genuinely don't get why everyone who enjoys Dark Souls II pretends that people who have grievances with it are being unreasonable, and never actually explain why they don't like it. It's so incredibly frustrating, because people EVERYWHERE (including in this thread, JUST A FEW PAGES AGO) routinely talk about their issues with DS2.
But, Hawkeye, you should have a fun time with it, if you jump right from Demon's Souls. The game is a bit more floaty, and parrying is functionally useless in PvE, but it's a decent game with some fun boss fights.
[sp]fuck the ancient dragon tho[/sp]
I really have this urge to just play Dark Souls 1 again, but I traded off my PS3 a year ago. Should I just buy it for PC? This might just be my Dark Souls 3 hype boiling inside me, but I just got the platinum trophy for Bloodborne, and I have no FromSoft game to fill this void...

I miss the Iaito.
It also has some pretty well presented bosses, like Mirror Knight, Demon of Song, Vendrick and Darklurker. The game isn't all bad, it just feels more like (to me at least) a decent spinoff than a good Souls game.
Every single one of my characters has had to fight 4Kings in full Havels. :v:

why lol
why lol
Because easymode? If you get close to 4K his melee attacks do like 20% damage because he's hitting you with his hilt. His magic attacks also do reduced damage because Havel's explicit purpose is to block magic. With all this + almost unbreakable poise all you need is good DPS and not shitty rolling skills for that grab attack.
Dragon form is a go.

With a Dragon Tooth +2 buffed via Dragon Torso Stone, my damage AR is 600 at level 54. Perfectly balanced. :v:

Suppose you stumbled into Darkroot Basin by accident, defeated all the golems there but got destroyed by the hydra earlier. You will get the idea that the hydra is some kind of bonus enemy or something that you'll better face later (like those fucking titanite demons).
So you do return later and defeat the Hydra. Being a player that got an habit with exploring the areas you are in as much as you can, you discover the cave in the small lake. Except the cave is empty after you defeated the hydra: the golden golem containing Dusk spawn only after reloading/respawning.
After Dusk talks to you, handles you her summon tool and leaves, you recive no direction whatsoever about what to do next, nor that you can advance in the "questline" only after getting the Lordvessel. Talking to Dusk after summoning her also doesn't provide any info.
At the point you are in the game, you have little to no reason to return to the Duke's Archives (moreso if you waited right before entering the final dungeon to Gwyn to do the DLC), but let's suppose you stumble there by accident again.
The golem dropping the pendant is a lone golem right after the first elevator to enter the area. At this point you may have killed him dozens of times, so it's hard to expect you to know that the monster is the one you must slay to recive the McGuffin you need to progress into the DLC. The fact is the only golem among several crystal warriors may tip you off, but, again, is a long stretch.
After killing the golem and reading the pendant's description, I'll admit, it becomes obvious what you must do next, but actually getting there requires a lot of "let's suppose", "maybe ..." and "let's try this next" from the player.
Compare accessing the Old Hunters DLC in Bloodborne: after killing a mandatory boss, you can see a dropped item in plain view in the game's main hub. Upon taking it, a box of text pops up and flat-out tells you you must be grabbed by one of the Amygdalas. At the point you are in the game, with luck, you were already grabbed by one in Cathedral Ward by looting the alternative hunter set. If you weren't, there are only two Amygdalas that can grab you in the game, so trial and error isn't frustrating in the slightest
I prefer BB's method, to be honest. I hated the slog to access the DLC in DS1 (especially if you didn't have the rusted ring), I much prefer BB's no nonsense "here's the key to the front door, I don't care if you're underleveled" way.
Dks2 was great for DLC access. Exploring the areas rewarded enough.
I don't mind the straight approach of BB too.

I expected much worse, but it was an entertainingly merciless fight
I gave the soul of Artorias to Ciaran and got the daggers to enhance my rogue wet dream
I'm currently trying to beat Cleric Beast, I mean, Manus
Seriously, fuck the dark casters in Ooocile Township
you could have just murdered her in cold blood and gotten her armor too and then just pay off your sins

The game is dark enough already
Yeah you're right, this is as dark as having to kill a man that turned into a beast and killed his own wife, leaving his daughter alone :v:
