Ok seriously, how do I kill the twin gargoyles? I've been stuck on them for like the past week now, this is getting so dumb. I can't find any humanity anywhere to get Soltaire again and I think he's my only chance to ever get past them.
The rats give humanity as drops. You can find 3 of them under the bridge where the dragon is. Alternatively sometimes killing an enemy adds humanity to your character.
Yogkog, if you want some help I can install the game and be helping you in about a hour (allowing for download times and for me to reach the Undead Parish). Or I can help tomorrow if that's more convenient. Assuming you're on PC. Also I'm not downloading the game until I know you want my help because I have no desire to play the game for myself right now.

WOAH gold member!!!
bruh
cut the tails off
roll just before they attack
rinse and repeat
Right, I've prepped my guy. I've also gathered up the items around the Undead Burg and Parish which I will have no use for but you may find useful Yogkog, just firebombs and the like. I have also upgraded a couple of weapons I can drop for you, none of them are over powered and all of them you could get on your own if you wanted right now. If you don't want them I won't drop them.
PM me tomorrow when you're ready to go, and update me on what level you are so I can get in range. Look for "J Anus Vest A" at the boss fog.
you honestly cant fight the gargoyles with the fat roll
my first 3-4 hours of dark souls 1 in the beginning of last year (first souls game, also) was a long and painful journey
To get to the zweihander next to firelink.
Screw my friend for making me think that was the way to go. god that skeleton area is a beautiful but evil noob trap.. Surely gave me a good impression for the rest of the game.
Artorias wiped the floor with me; I swear that's one boss fight I would recommend anyone to try and overcome that hasn't already. The great scythe saved my life
it blows so much how the zweihander you can get within like 20 minutes in souls 1 but you have to get to ironkeep in 2 just to get it (in SOTFS that is)
it feels extremely shitty to have that much of a barrier to a rather 'normal' sword
You can get the big greatsword pretty early in ds2. Cheese dragon rider > run through "fuck my shit up wharf" > open metal chest with big sword > bone out(assuming you got one)
Still not as fast as the zwei in ds1 though.
Is it weird one of the features I hope miyazaki brings back in DS3 most is those special tail weapons?

the greatsword is kinda shit though
the zweihander has a much more dynamic moveset
the greatsword is kinda shit though

I cant speak for everyone but i've had the most success with it out of all the UGS's in ds2. I play fully unlocked when i use it in pvp, guess it just throws everyone off.
Zwei has the same moveset both 1h and 2h for the standard r1's so im not sure what you mean by "more dynamic" the r2's are good, and i guess the rolling r1's are tight, but i prefer the greatswords moveset way more, esp the rolling 2h r1's and rolling 1h r1's. Baiting people with 1h r1's and then switching to 2h r1's is just great.
Real men just use the smelter hammer anyways, right guys?
the zwei is one of the most powerful non boss str weapons i dont think its too hard to get at all
kinda frustrating how you get items after you did an area where they would have been useful like the hollow skin
I used zwei for my first run not knowing how freaking strong it was in comparison to other weapons. Could stun lock pretty much everything.
best thing about the Zweihander? You can use a really fast moveset weapon like a dagger or spear, or fists to knock their health down, then swap to the BASS CANNON and immediately throw them off because they'll have no idea what to do
what strength is required to power stance fume UGS and pursuer UGS?

also can i get ng+ rings using an ascetic?
Quick shout out to Janus Vesta, since he tried to help me out with the gargoyles! Sadly, the servers may just be completely broken because I spent like 45 minutes trying to summon him but his sign would never show up on my side. No idea what happened but still, it was awesome of him to actually take the time to build up a character and get to my spot just to help me out. It just makes me wish there was a more reliable method of doing coop, seriously
We can try again tomorrow or some other time if you want. In the mean time, if you can't get past the Gargoyles you might want to explore the world some more (read your keys), the Gargoyles aren't entirely necessary to kill yet. You do have to kill them, but you can hold off all the way up until you've seen everything else in and around the Undead Burg.
I remember when I started playing and not knowing what does what, spent many, many hours getting stuck in the gargoyle part... Until I discovered you can summon NPCs/Players in boss battles while being human. Also lots and lots of humanity lost because I used them as soon I got them.

I think you have to be in the same download region or something.
imo a more sensible strategy would be to get your opponent's health down with a big weapon (zwei) and then whittle them down with a quick weapon. most players will start to panic roll, making them an easy kill
zweihander is really easy to counter if you know what you're doing. most likely scenario - the zwei user spams either 1h or 2h r1, making him a big backstab target
roll through the swings and position yourself behind them and bam, backstab it is. learn their behaviour and see how much stamina they have. if youre using a zwei, to counter backstabs use the 1h r1 (this has way better tracking than 2h, combo covers pretty much 360 degrees) and unlock camera, although this can be risky as it just screams to get parried
wrong
you use super weak ass weapons and pretend you don't know what you're doing
then you strike fear into your enemy by finishing him off with a Zweihander golf swing and then a sudden double soul greatsword
[editline]5th October 2015[/editline]
the only way to really win
is by going full retard
[editline]5th October 2015[/editline]
seriousness though, both ways actually work quite well
if they have low health you have a good chance of taking them by surprise with your Zweihander, meaning you could take the rest of their health out with a single move before they realize whats happening
at least that's how I try and play some of the time.
unless I'm doing sorcery, then I try finishing them off with the old whip + soul spears/greatswords

I love how in 1 and 2 you can get the mace straight away and it can carry you to the end of the game
I love how in 1 and 2 you can get the mace straight away and it can carry you to the end of the game
most weapons can carry you to the end of the game really, even a short sword
Even the dagger in souls 2 is extremely capable of end game
Even Astora's straight sword can carry you through the game if you're stubborn enough.
Zwei saldy is not that great in ds2, the versality makes it up though.
Still all UGSs in DS2 are great to use.

At that point it isn't carrying you, you're carrying it :0
What's the most fun and effective weapon to use against Quelaag? The Rapier and Longsword aren't cutting the mustard against her, but I don't quite want to go to my generic backup strategy of using the Battleaxe.

That sounds like Bloodborne where you have to wear a really flashy set and use a very strange combination of weapons. Nobody knows what to do when a chikage isn't pulled out
[editline]6th October 2015[/editline]
A few times, I got summoned to help some people out, but I ended having to kill them since they were blood addled hunters and they fucking freaked out because they weren't expecting me to kill them. It was funny when I got a few kills in the room right before ebrietas chamber because they kept backing up into the hole where the elevator is supposed to be
Sir Alonne is seriously wrecking me, he keeps throwing me off with his speed and then the freaking thrust buff attack snatches me sometimes even if I dodge it. It takes him 2-3 hits to kill me since I prioritize being light and doing as much damage as possible. Not even Fume Knight gave me this much trouble. At least the music's good.
Edit:
I think a lot of the frustration comes from having to go through mini Iron Keep every single time I die.
