Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VII. Now Only Embers Remain

I didn't want to use ludwig's sword because it's what everyone else uses and a sword that turns into a bigger sword is boring.
The kirkhammer is so much fun. It makes me feel like a space marine with a thunder hammer
I brought my PS4 to college once to play Bloodborne with friends and one guy saw me using the Kirkhammer on one of my builds and he's like,
"why are you using the hammer, what are you, casual? hurrrhuehuee"
"c'mon man, use the sword, it's so cool, you're playing the game wrong if you're not using the sword"
I have never touched Ludwig's sword since then.
I prefer the hammer over the sword mainly for the moveset. I like the idea to have a quick one handed sword and then suddenly turn it into a huge hammer. It really varies up the gameplay.

The Ludwig Holy Sword, you mean?
Scum.
I never liked how any of the heavy weapons in Bloodborne felt. For me, they felt like they weren't doing enough damage to justify the slower speed. Always preferred the fast to medium-fast weapons like the Cleavers, Driver, and Cane.
I'm playin DS2 and man the world just feels so disjointed.
I'm having fun but there's no natural connection between any of the places, it feels like I'm just doing a bunch of unrelated dungeons.
Coop is super fun though, getting summoned to help out is probably the most rewarding part of the game
Come on man, the world fits together perfectly. Like when you get to the top of Earthen Peak and take an elevator upwards into Iron Keep that is sinking into the ground. Seamless.
Seriously did Willy Wonka do the level design for that segment?

The problem for me isn't the damage, my kirkhammer fucking wrecked Ebrietas when I managed to hit her with a charged attack right in the face while it was buffed with the shell. It needs to crack the ground and have a larger AOE and some sort of distortion effect like rhino's stomp from warframe.
The saw cleaver really is a very versatile weapon. Unextended, it attacks fast enough to stunlock enemies and it deals bonus damage to grotesque enemies. Extended it has a really good reach and is perfect for hitting Amygdala and Ebrietas in the face. The moveset is really good because you can smash your target into the ground by tapping R2 after a charge attack when extended. The transformation attacks work well too since you can hit multiple targets.
On top of all that, you can buff it to deal with any target or change it to a full elemental weapon

I believe the elevator debacle (and other similar situations) was the result of a lot of potential content being cut while finished areas were hastily stitched together. It's all a big damn shame, if you ask me.

this really is true too
ds2's biggest issue is the linearness of the levels

but there is 0 interconnections like souls 1 had
you literally go in multiple straight lines to your destination. The only 'interconnected' thing is the hub Majula and thats it, as well as no mans wharf and the Bastille.
souls 2 has no sense of stumbling into a great discovery of a new area. You simply walk into it.
The irony in the path being linear is also that you are 'destined to be king'. In both plot and level design, your path is laid out for you before you even reach majula.
I remember how much my mind was BLOWN when I realized I could fucking see the bridge and sewer gate in the Valley of Drakes all the way from the bridge in the Undead Parish. Just look down and the entire layout is there. The amount of detail in DS1 and how everything perfectly meshes together is fucking phenomenal.
Meanwhile in DS2, we get shit like this. :v:

I honestly think the elevator was meant to go down but one of the level designers fucked up.
iron keep is clearly supposed to be in the caldera visible from earthen peak so an upwards elevator makes sense, just the passage leading to the elevator itself is like a mile too short
[editline]11th October[/editline]
the name "earthen peak" gives me the impression that the level was supposed to end on the lip of the caldera and then have you cross the no man's land surrounding the keep, at which point manikins would show up and fight you on the lava like in some of the original trailers:

but i guess when they were forced to cut out the open world elements they had to conjoin the two levels nonsensically

Or how in DS1 you could see The Duke's Archives all the way from the Undead Parish or Ash Lake from Tomb of the Giants.
Or how in bloodborne you can see the moonside lake all the way from the very beginning.
[sp]I never managed to beat the taurus demon in DS1 but Bloodborne is a really easy game for me[/sp]
I use the holy blade just because I love greatswords in Souls games. Though I use the blades of mercy for my other character. Those are so fun to use.

If what EpicNameBro has to say on DS2 is true then it was very close to being canned before the second director was brought on to basically save it. I imagine their plans for an open world were putting strain on the engine and their level design and they had to take the important stuff and glue it together along linear paths in a short amount of time.
A lot of the prerelease info made it seem like a very different game from what we got. The Pursuer was originally meant to attack you as you travelled through the game, the Executioner was originally supposed to attack you before you even reached his boss area, and the fast travel system would make a LOT more sense in a fully open world game.
Apparently this is semi-viable in Arena PVP? (26 wins, 3 losses)

There's nothing quite like being a burning man in a fight. No one knows if they should run away, or try and put you out.
nothing is as amusing like immolation + vanq seal and no cloths
I did a similar thing once with all of the Old Knight gear and powerstancing the Hammers and buffed with flames. Hugely effective if you could get a hit off and hilariously overpowered in singleplayer, where a single powerstanced heavy hit could destroy the big guys in the Dragon Shrine in one hit in NG+3.

DS2 being a piecemeal game made up from a game that had to be completely reworked makes so much sense it isn't even funny.

Just so you know, you can't actually reduce the damage Immolation does to yourself with fire resist. Or anything else I think.
At least we know what Tanimura can do when he works from the ground up.
See: Shulva, Brume Tower and Eleum Loyce
He's also on the team for ds3 with Miyazaki, so i foresee some great level design.

Yeah, what happened to the original mask design? I like that one way better.

I use to actually hate that mask, but it started to really grow on me after using it originally as a joke.
Though it would be neat if both designs were in the game.

In my capacity as a masks enthusiast, that's a fucking cool mask
Yeah, what happened to the original mask design? I like that one way better.
I think the rumor was that the original design looked too much like a mask from Naruto and had to change it to avoid copyright stuff. Though I don't remember if that was actually the confirmed issue.
Last night I got invaded by big boss and got help from a blue sentinel named shrek. Yup I'm playing dark souls alright. Big Boss was disguising as objects and Shrek was a really fat naked guy that punched shit with me.

The expression is the expression of finding that they replaced the mask with this.
