Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VII. Now Only Embers Remain

Wow, fuck me is this game Demon's Souls. Some neat shit from the network test for anyone interested:
You can charge your heavy attacks for extra damage, at the cost of more stamina and a longer lead up. I'm talking like 70% extra damage.
Parries are super quick, but you can only parry with the buckler.
Weapon arts stagger enemies and break guard so much it's hilarious.
Weapon arts eat stamina and magic like Smough eats prisoners.
If you press the parry button with a left handed catalyst you gain a short term damage increase for your magic attacks. Well worth the tiny magic cost.
[sp]Dancer of the Frigid Wastes is awesome, a mix between Ciaran and a Ruin Sentinel. I kicked it's ass on my first try.[/sp]
Backstabs work like Demon's Souls, instant attack but very narrow window behind the enemy.
Enemies with shields have a cool shield bash attack when you're behind them, and they turn pretty quickly. It's pretty hard to stay behind an enemy to avoid getting hit. Also enemies don't rotate on the spot, they actually turn.
[sp]Jesus Christ there are red eye knights.[/sp]
There is a new status ailment. [sp]Frostbite, already mentioned in preview stuff. Makes you move slower, may also make your stamina use worse.[/sp]
Humanity/Human Effigies have been replaced with Embers, when you use one you get a cool ember effect on your body and gain an extra 40% hp.
Soul Dart is a neat spell, really weak but really quick.
Soul Greatsword is back to being super powerful, eats 1/3rd of the magic you have as a the whatever Assassin per cast.
The dragon is really cool and its fire lingers on the ground for a few seconds.
Gold pine resin is odd. It seems to deal a set amount of damage before wearing off. I've backstabbed people and have the effect wear off instantly, used weapon arts and heavy attacks and seen it wear off quickly too, but just swinging normally it lasts a bit longer.
The level is fucking awesome, you can see how everything is connected.
It's pretty damn great, and I've only had one hiccup so far with my connection so the test is going well. I can't wait to play the bandit(?) and the cleric tomorrow.
Daaaaamn, that was really good. And the PvP was super fun, really fast paced and I only got in one backstab :P
Backstabs aren't like Demon's Souls at all though Janus, people I fought and I whiffed several backstabs. As long as you're in motion people will have a hard time landing one.
Also, I ganked a guy 4v1, it was goddamn hilarious.
Might have been a mistranslation and be the complete opposite, like Bloodborne
Apparently it is/was. People have said you can only get invaded as a solo host if you used the dried finger, if you don't you can only get invaded when you have summons.
That is goddamn stupid and I hope they change it. Jesus Christ.
boy o boy does ds3 feel great. it's the perfect balance between dark souls and bloodborne (i've never played demon souls but apparently it's that?). a nice middleground where you get punished for being too fast and aggressive like in bloodborne, but it's also nowhere near as slow as dark souls 2. the charging attacks and weapon arts add some nice depth to an already flawless combat system.
the zone you get to play in is so good. beautiful aesthetic and atmosphere, and the level folds upon itself incredibly well. no giant linear path with tiny branch-offs like in ds2. graphics are basically bloodborne but with better anti-aliasing.
the enemies felt fun and varied. almost every one forced you to approach them differently and every encounter felt fresh. the boss has some of the coolest animations in the entire soul series and it made it very hard to read her attacks.
basically if you're someone who was disappointed with ds2 and are worried about ds3 being the same (does anyone actually think ds3 won't be perfect?) you should stop worrying and forget about any other video game besides dark souls 3 because that's the only one you need why are other developers even making video games anymore miyazaki has already won
Pretty sure we're violating NDA by posting "testing experiences on the internet" but whatever, yeah, the game is incredible. Played as the knight and the northern warrior, going to try the other classes tomorrow and then invasions Sunday
Character movement doesn't feel anywhere near as clunky as DS2, pretty much a mix between DS1 and demon's. Pulling off attacks is effortless, and I found it incredibly easy to pull off backstabs on enemies unlike some people said(?). At least 33% of my attacks ended up being backstabs as I have a habit of circling
It almost feels 'arcadey' compared to Bloodborne which I was playing just before, it's hard to describe (I was laughing at first how high my character threw his knees up when he ran). I managed to jump and land a falling greatsword attack on an idiot invader who thought he was out of range (hiding down the ladder near the [sp]chaos head burster enemy)[/sp], and regularly drop attacked enemies as soon as they fell of ledges. Really tight controls
The battle axe doesn't feel that strong to me :unimpressed: though it might be a longer, smaller head version like in DS2 and the DS1 version is somewhere around (I hope), while the shortsword is probably the best it's ever been. The Greatsword is maybe a bit too big for me and swings slightly too slow, but I had fun staggering the boss with its launching move (and just launching regular enemies around). Great for groups. The twin swords weren't my thing but they cut people up real nice
The charge attacks seem OP in PvE, one guy gets a knockdown and you can get all three of your summons charging greatsword slams. Get dunkd
I don't think 3 summons + the host is a good number. It was introduced It might be fun to get a 4v3 (unless it goes up to 4 invaders?)
It was incredibly fun to fight the boss, though it did kill me with like a 7 hit combo at one point. Picking the perfect time to roll and then adapting to its second phase all felt unique and original
[sp]Managed to pull off 5 boss kills (1 solo) and 2 frost knight kills, in the last 5 minutes I managed a group boss kill and a solo frost knight kill, pretty exhilarating[/sp]
Looking at the level you really feel like From has come a long way. Demon's souls was alright with its castle, but it felt a bit barren. DS1 had a pretty neat town area but again it felt like a small, localised place. DS2's opening castle-like area felt a bit bigger, but it was the city in the ivory king DLC which most reminds me of what the level is like in DS3 - large, with an even bigger outside of level area to give a real sense of vastness. You can explore a market type place, a town square, what felt like some pubs etc. Really feels like you're exploring an entire town-city
There was some really neat verticality as well, at one point I managed to get down 4 stories in seconds by using wooden rafters. They seem to be placed in order to advantage players that have more of a knowledge of the level, which I really like. The shortcuts are really nice too, didn't feel like the bonfires were spaced too generously either.
[sp]If you invade in the frost knight area you are fucking scum[/sp]
Anyway I have a real itch to play through Bloodborne again, time to make a new not-overlevelled character ready for the DLC
Yeah pretty much everyone has broken the NDA:
Can I tell other people about what I saw in the Network Stress Test?
No; this is a violation of the Network Stress Test user agreement. Testers are prohibited from posting gameplay videos, images, or other testing experiences on the Internet, social networks, or any other media.
v:v:v
what did they think would happen tho
Apparently it is/was. People have said you can only get invaded as a solo host if you used the dried finger, if you don't you can only get invaded when you have summons.

Did they NOT learn from Bloodborne? PvP is dead in that game because of this.
So you can heal as invader and white phantom during invasion.
Regardless, backstabs in PvE still feel way too easy to do because they don't really move at all, you can get overwhelmed and took by surprise but that's pretty much every souls game.
Of course, this might be a different build in this stress test as the enemies aren't this threatening.
PvP in Bloodborne is dead because the matchmaking is broken, it's PS4 exclusive, and the invasion system is convoluted. It's far from that bad in DS3.
i miss dark souls 3 already
i don't know if i'm gonna play the other two days though, i tried all the classes and i feel like i've explored every little bit of the zone in those 3 hours. i don't want to overplay the area before the game is even out.
this is the part where i realise i have to wait half a year to play the full game
Watch them pull a DS2 and delay the release date for PC again for no apparent reason.

Theme of the boss.
Sounds like a demons + bloodborne esque song
i'd recommend at least beating the second boss before you start drawing conclusions, the first boss is pretty meh in my opinion
It's not me drawing conclusions as much as struggling to get the desire to pick up the controller and continue. I posted here in hopes someone would post something like this to drive me on a bit further!
i think if you're already a dark souls fan and you're not enjoying bloodborne by the first boss you're not gonna enjoy the rest of the game
what is it you don't like btw? i don't think i've ever heard of a dark souls fan not enjoy bloodborne
PvP is dead everywhere but Nightmare Frontier and Mensis. People are lining up to try their hand at killing you there

I really hope that Bloodborne eventually gets blood vials refilling on respawn. Having to grind for vials in central yharnam doesn't make the game more challenging or fun, it just wastes your time
It's a lot easier once you know how to fight everything and where everything is. My last playthrough, I didn't die until Vicar Amelia got lucky and smashed me
i had to start my game again because of a ps4 hard drive failure and me and budspoonce just destroyed ebrietas first go in like 1 minute
i will upload a video

Ebrietas is fucking bullshit and incredibly easy to kill at the same time.
My first run through, all my summoned help kept dying quickly and we couldn't even get her down to half. I eventually got fed up with that and tried to take her out myself using the saw cleaver and she went down incredibly fast because it only dealt fire damage and and the transformed mode hits her head.
After that it was never that easy and I'd spend a week trying to kill her until my 3rd playthrough with a new strength build when I realized that she becomes incredibly easy if you just unlock the camera because the camera becomes a liability when you're close to her, she charges, or when she slams her head on the ground.
After that I decided to help players and I managed to knock her ass out with a buffed kirkhammer R2 attack to the head. Also if you tap R2 after the charge attack, you do an upward swing which can hit her right in the face
Some concept of the armors.
[t]http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/42/1444886051-academy-assassinwo.jpg[/t] [t]http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/42/1444886053-herald-of-whitewo.jpg[/t]
Sometimes I wish they'd make it so capes and tabards take up a separate item slot instead of just being a part of the chest armour because I just can't help but always wear the one that has a cape. No matter what kind of character I'm playing. Maybe just add an accessory slot and add all kinds of options so that you don't get a bunch of people all just wearing the same thing.
The NA stress test should be starting about now, right?

i dunno dude
i don't know what is going on

Yeah, the whole "invasions are only 1 on 1" thing is bullshit, all I've been invading are coop sessions.

I'm not sure which one is worse :v:
So getting summoned is pretty fucking instant, like the second I put down my sign I was getting summoned. Meanwhile invading takes AGES to happen, it's basically DS1 all over again.

No wonder, you guys were hitting her with really powerful charged attacks. Those usually interrupt her if they do enough damage. I'm surprised you didn't even hit her in the head
How does the Estus work in DS3? Is it the faster DS1 version that stops if you take damage or the slower DS2 one that still heals after taking damage?

is there any other way to play this game?
[editline]17th October 2015[/editline]
that's what I did on release too but I swear the bosses either had more health or the weapons did less damage
Sorry for asking too many question but, I'm planning in getting Dark Souls to a friend but I want to know how reliable is coop with someone. Like if we organize, I left a summon sign in an area, how long it would be take to him see the sign? I read somewhere there is used to be like a mod to make this easier but it broke when the Steamworks update happened, is anything like available? I'm also aware joining covenants focused in co-op also helps.
DS1?
AFAIK, you don't have that good of a chance. It's doable, but prepare for waiting.
